Today we pay homage to this extraordinary statesman (and animal lover). The menu will feature traditional British fare: bangers and mash, fish and chips, spotted dick (yes!), toad-in-the-hole, plowman’s lunch …

“Cats Look Down on You…” Churchill’s Feline Menagerie

    http://content.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,2049797_2049795_2049783,00.html

On 8 May 1945 Winston Churchill stood on a Whitehall balcony and said, “In all our long history, we have never seen a greater day than this.” Churchill had stood against Hitler and won – the day was his. Sir Winston Churchill is considered by many to be the greatest Briton. He’s awesome as seen in his love for cats and UK.

I’m getting caught up on S.W.A.T. I love Shemar Moore-yummy, yummy.

    Have a happy~

PG, the “tails” of SWC and his purries has made for nice pre-bedtime reading. 🙂

When someone “wins big” we can do a “Cats of the World Tour” and after visiting the polydactyl crew at Hemingway’s place in Key West, we can cross the pond and visit Jock IV at Chartwell.

One of my fave songs of all time!!!!! Full orchestra is awesome! Longish but IMHO well worth the listen.

Roger Hodgson is coming to Montreal in Oct. They had to add xtra purrformance.

“This song incorporates Winston Churchill’s famous “We shall fight them on the beaches” speech, made during WWII. The part sampled is, “We shall go on to the end… we shall fight on the seas and oceans… we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be… we shall never surrender.” (2:26) – songfacts.com

I remember learning that quote at school.

I like that-thanks for the video, KJ. Did you get a ticket?

American schools don’t normally teach much world history but when I took the one class, I remember learning the same quote. Sir Winston was an inspiration esp. when there was nothing to celebrate in the war.

I’m glad HRH finally ate and is her sassy self.

It’s dark and cloudy and we’re supposed to get rain. Yesterday, I washed the bathroom, hall and 3 of 8 bedroom walls. I may wash some more walls. I’ll know by tonight if I was that motivated. 😆

Good morning – History classes were required all four years of high school, however much of the curriculum was American history.

It’s still cold here in Jersey, but warm weather is apparently on the way!

PS: Last I heard, AV said clearing her casche and cookies worked.

Happy Monday all! It’s nice to be back …. I missed you guys! Thankfully, KM2 got everyone back up ! Had a relaxing weekend, Mr. AV and Son are working on their new ‘project’ (a fixer upper), which means they’re NOT working here (yay! a break from HIP!!!) …. so I spent a lot of porch reading time with Miss Caddy and slept in late with Abby …. Son should close on his house at the end of the month, so bye bye Luna and Venus, grandMeowmy will visit often!

It’s supposed to rain tomorrow, I’m looking forward to it! Temps here have been in the 80s and getting hotter ….. where did Spring go?!
Hope everyone is having a productive Monday! L8R all!

    Well …

    I’m in a foul mood!

Peeps (3) came to take pics. They messed up things. Without details, and I sorted things out and there are no probs, but just to say that I most certainly do not want anyone going into my kitchen without my supervising them. And when they left things were not back in place. And landlord has engaged a way “high end” realtor. 😡

Just emailed him that I have to be on premises when/if place is shown.

N was here as we got rid of old table/chairs and new set will be assembled when she is back tomorrow. Well I lost it.

Tomorrow a.m. stressful appt., and getting up way early for gym.

In a bit I’ll arrange with a p/u guy to return current micro for new one, in keeping with discussion with mfr. At least for less than taxi fare he’ll actually help me carry the stupid thing.

    *Deep breath*

Glad you are back AV, the clearing of my cache did the trick for me too!

I am having a productive Monday also–worked on books, paid monthly bills, did some laundry and even folded sheets and put them away. Still have laundry to fold, but no biggie. I really wanted a pedicure today but couldn’t fit it in my schedule. I’ve got to get my feet done before it’s sandal time…my feets are scary! 😆

Somewhat calmer *phew* – cause when I get upset it’s not pretty!

De facto landlord replied to email assuring me that he will inform realtor that I must be on premises when/if anyone visits. Genuine landlord lives in Greece year round.

Plus arranged for new micro p/u next Mon p.m. and in purrfect world will have new dining set by tomorrow dinner time!

PG, just checked out tickets for Roger Hodgson. They’ve added 2 more shows at a smaller theatre. Interesting how buying tickets at actual theatre is less expensive than ticket outlets, but the outlets prob buy blocks of seats for re-sale as theatre has limited availability. Approx $100-$150 for decent seat. Not bad and concert is on a Mon night as opposed to Fri/Sat when I would not be able to go. Just after my b-day too. Not sure I feel like going alone and don’t know anyone who’d be interested.Have to give it a think. There’s a deal for $210 where one gets to attend sound check and after-concert meet purrformer event. What I’d really like is a “backstage pass.” Hehehe! 😎 😆

Yea AV! Woot, Woot! I missed you and Abby and Miss Caddy…and family DIY stories. There’s a special day for Meezers that Abby wasn’t around for too.

Maybe you and N can go to the concert. I know tickets can be expensive (Adele 😮 ) but I never regert ( 😀 ) going to the shows/concerts.

PG, actually I think that $100 or so is quite cheap for concert ticket. N would not want to go, prog rock not her thing at all. I’ll have to think on it. IMHO never regret doing anything that brings you pleasure. For me it’s just a question of whether ultimately I’d end up stressed out.

For now I just want to de-stress from today and get to tomorrow’s appt with aplomb.

In final wk of another Coursera online course. Not oaying for “privilege” of doing quizzes. One more to continue with that’s 10 wks long and I’m about 2 wks ahead. I am amazed at the quality of the instructors, their bkgds, and presentation skills. And the myriad of universities where they teach! I even find myself searching further on the references on INet.

Considered taking course on Holocaust, but might not be best plan.

There’s about 5 courses on edX that might work. And some are self-paced, meaning that I can start at any time.

Anyway I’m going to watch another section of course while knitting and then follow floofy callie’s lead and go to bed.

Woohoo, we actual;y got past one page for today’s Cafe.
Welcome back AV, you were missed. I am glad you were able to clean and clear and return to your TDK family.
Had a busy day doing not much at all as the weather hasn’t been great here. Not wet but strong winds. I watched the Commonwealth Games track an field and road cycling.

Still not very nice weather. I had to go to the RAMQ to renew my health card and fell into bureaucratic hell. For some reason they seem convinced that I’m residing in Italy. I studied there … back in the 1980. I took several documents attesting to my places of residence here going back 30 years. It is ridiculous, happy as I am to have our health coverage.

I don’t think the new film on Churchill is showing here yet.
