We got our kitten Zera a little less than a week ago, we found her in a parking lot and took her in. Ever since we got her she’s had runny poo that seemed to be getting better slowly. Today she started pooping while in our bed which as far as we’ve seen isnt like her. We immediately took her to her litter box to let her finish up. Poor thing was pooping while she dug around in her litter box. I checked her stool and there’s very small amounts of what looks like blood. We cant take her to the Vet till Friday but Im so worried about her. Does anyone have any advice on what could be wrong with her, or more importantly how to make her more comfortable until Friday? ANY advice would be greatly appreciated.

We adopted a 4 month old cat and were concerned to see that his first poop with us had blood in it. I googled it to see if it was an emergency (it was saturday night) and it most likely was not. In our case it turned out to be coccidia, a common parasite in kittens that has to have a specific med to kill it….not killed by standard deworming. (The vet diagnosed it with a stool sample.) A little med from the vet and he was fine. Definitely bring it to the vets attention. You could even call ahead and see if you need to bring a stool sample. (Our vet says they need to be very fresh so I had to bring it separately from his appt time.)

Oh wow. Im curious, how does one collect a stool sample when they have runny poo? And do you think its possible she ingested some soap and that’s whats tore up her tummy? My husband and I keep her in our room with her litter box and food and water, instead of running to the kitchen to refill her small water bowl we kept fresh tap water in a jug of milk, my husband cleaned it out with soap to get all the milk out, it’s very possible that we didnt get all the soap out…..we’ve since taken it out and now we just go to the kitchen to get her water refilled anyway.
