    Yes! On principle!

Hope it gets royal assent, which is generally just a rubber stamp.

I find it such a relief, although I have zero desire to toke nowadays. So many people have criminal records for something so minor. It will also make life easier for people using cannaboids for therapeutic reasons. And to top it off, perhaps encourage hemp production. I have a hemp long-sleeved t-shirt that has held up beautifully for over a decade. It can be a very attractive fabric.

    Cue catnip jokes!

An interesting move that I am sure will be watched with interest by all sides here in NZ. We have desperate people here who find it is their only relief from medical conditions and yet are getting criminal records for using it as are ‘Green Angels’ who secretly produce(illegally) cannabis products for those with medical conditions to use and also gain criminal records. Roll on medicinal cannabis products produced in NZ legally as a start.

Yes, we also did medicinal first, as there are issues with across the board legalisation (though I support it). One major issue is how to test for THC levels in terms of driving or operating machinery. I believe police forces here will rely more on assessing driver behaviour – it is illegal to drive impaired, even if prescription medication makes one so.

The other issue is whether people should have the right to grow modest amounts of cannabis for home use (not for sale). In Canada people have the right to ferment modest quantities of beer and wine for domestic consumption and it has rarely caused any problems. The problem is illegal production of large amounts of alcoholic beverages (including spirits, illegal to produce at home) by criminal gangs, the same sort of people as are involved in cannabis “grow-ops” and the production or import and sale of far stronger drugs.
