Dee, I just had fun listening to all sorts of bird calls on that site. My fvourite has to be the common loon, I even have a toy loon with a real recording of it’s song inside the toy. We don’t have loons here.

We don’t have many night birds, the Morepork or Ruru is our native owl and has a lovely call. Here is a site that has the sound and pictures of the Morepork.

We have one that sits in the tree in our front garden and calls, I just love it’s song.

that is a cool site!…… I get ‘frogs and crickets’ sounds at night here, I’ll have to listen more closely to see if I recognize any birds……

Just about to sign out and turn the puter off and guess who is in the tree! The Morepork is trilling away but not moreporking yet.Shadz cocked an ear and then went back to sleep. Ahhhhhhhhhh lovely sound, all is right with the world tonight now.

There aren’t too many birds that jabber after dark here. We have some doves & owls & that’s it. The daytime is a whole different world tho. Beautiful songbirds, gorgeous Robins & some breathtaking finches. They’re bright yellow, almost neon.

Our big problem this year tho are the blackbirds. We have about 5 different varieties & they’re all after one thing….the kitty kibble. I have to feed them bread pieces in their own little spot just so the kits can eat. It’s scary. Sometimes it looks like the Alfred Hitchcock movie ‘The Birds’.lol. I do enjoy watching the parents feed the little ones tho. And not a single cat in this park messes w/them.

Not sure if it’s a fear of them ganging up on them or if the cats are too lazy to go after them. They’ve puttered as close as 6 inches away from Naughtyboy & he doesn’t flinch.

The night call of a Loon is very disturbing. It sounds like a distressed call for help.

Thanks Dee…don’t get any nite calling birds around here. Usually here a cat meowr once in awhile/probably turf issues. Or the car stereo music on the street when the local bar closes…oyyy, that is the most disturbing sound of all! Up north usually hear an owl or a loon…
