Hi KJ – glad walks are clearing up. Having a squall here and just came in from bringing my summer toys in. More clutter in the house, awesome. *sigh*
Hey AV, when you get to the hat knitting thing, ask kids if they want little ear flaps. They are just little triangles that attach to the hat and have a strand to tie under the chin. Sounds nerdy, but first of all, in NYC anything goes, second, worn with a coat with upturned collar and scarf, it’s barely noticeable & third, they work! Also, when wearing glasses, head doesn’t hurt (some hats are tight and crushes glasses into side of head, owch) and the hat doesn’t get pulled so far down as to cover eyes! Guessing dau might go for this moreso. My mom made me one as one of her last projects (knitting is getting a bit difficult) but when I walk in the winter and get down by the lake where the wind whips up, my head and ears are toasty warm!

Joan, maybe you can get a picture of Leela, Comet and Max, even if not together you could ‘fix’ it at the print shop (Walgreens, CVS or somewhere )

Just got home, everyone is fed, I have taken my meds for the evening so hope to nap for an hour or two at least.

Agree Joan, keeping ears warm, very important. Also entire head, never understood ear muffs or those ski headbands, on a milder day, sure and I might get me one (as confine knitting to sweaters, quite enough point in time LOL), for fashion effect and to show off bangs. Another relatively easy headgear to knit is cowls. Done on a circular it’s just a ong tube, already joined, keeps peeps warm right down to collar or even lower – and – does not flatten hair, very imp for moi!

good idea Joan and KJ about the ear flaps and cowls …. I know Dau would appreciate those …. and Son too, I know he’d wear a hat, will have to ask about the ear flaps …. now, Mr. AV – I can dress the man up just as ‘nerdy’ as I want …. he’s a great guinea pig! LOL

… well, FINALLY finished the on-line course …. sending in the renewal fees tomorrow, and I’m done for 2 years … whew!!! … I hate these marathons, but they are a necessary evil of holding a license in this state ….

… think I’ll head to the store for a while now, I have a few odds/ends that I need to pick up, and I haven’t ventured out since Thrus. (chained to the computer and all), so I’d best get going …. later all!

Good morning all, it’s wet and nippy here. Summer where are you? You should be arriving in 2 weeks.
Loving the Pet of the Day kits from NZ –
KJ, a jaffa is a small round sweet consisting of a soft chocolate centre with a hard covering of orange flavoured, red coloured confectionery. The name derives from the Jaffa orange. The sweet is part of Australian and New Zealand cultural folklore.[citation needed] Through association with this sweet, Jaffa is sometimes used to describe a chocolate-orange flavour.

The sweet is part of New Zealand cultural folklore. Jaffas have often been sold in movie theatres and gained iconic status because of the noise made when they are dropped (accidentally or deliberately) and rolled down sloping wooden floors.
That rolling ability has now led to the great Jaffa Roll down New Zealand’s steepest street in the city of Dunedin.

AV you are making my mouth water with your descriptions of dinner. Yay for making it through the on-line course.
    Joan, oh dear more yakkage.
It has become very dark here and I need the lights on at nearly 11am and now I hear rain beginning to plink down on the chimney top. It is definitely going to be an inside day today and with Winter clothing on too.

    Tks MS 😉
Ya never know what you can learn in the Café. Will have to add Jaffa race to my rota of “things to do” should I find myself in NZ! They sell Cadbury sweets here, but not these candies. Still not totally off the mark as some connection to Jaffa oranges, which back in the day (earlier than my day) kids who used to do a stint volunteering in Israel, ie pre or during uni would pick on kibbutzim (communal farms). Very 60s thing! Like going through Europe with backpack, passport, trusty Dr. Scholls and not much else. Staying in youth hostels along the way, very not me!

    So R U dizzy when you’re stoned?
Dorry got his very first “hit” of the ‘nip 2day! Went to Open House at my vet’s. Really nice, entire staff on hand with tours of the facilities, got to see the various surgery/dental suites, etc. And lots of lovely goggies, rescues all so far as I could tell. Free clawdicures (sans polish). One kitty was brought in for that. Got me neat loot bag including a lion stuffy with Velcro opening and ‘nip to put inside. You should have seen Dorry go for it. He had a real good time!!! Didn’t get the munchies or eat an entire loaf of bread, put it away for another time, but now he seems real chill, sorta like someone just this side of high (not that I’d know – really – really!)
Plus bag contained some awesome new toys, treats, kibble locker and entered into draw where I could win like free food for a yr, free annual check-up, etc. Plus another bag that’s purrfect for toting around my knitting, with a pouch and all!

Here’s a pic of “resident” kit and ass’t receptionist as Tasha. ONLY in her cage for 2day as being out with lots of goggies not an ideal plan. She’s a gorgeous brown tabby, hard to see her markings here:

    Lovely gift pen:

N’hood kit, took his/her pic ’cause I love kit’s markings:

Plus on way home I scored street find as a wooden planter which when spruced up a bit (paint now drying) will do very well for my yarn stash overflow.

Well, hope everyone’s dinner was delicious–I roasted some chicken instead of crock pot meal as I didn’t have time to defrost anything and made rice pilaf, with peas and onions. It was good and Mr. KZ bought some pumpkin roll home yesterday which I am too full for now, but later while watching TV we will have.
I am disheartened to learn we will be getting 3 to 5 inches of snow overnight and then temps dropping to the low teens by Tues….I have got to get out of this “dreading winter mode”. KJ, my mom used to knit these awesome neck warmers: they wrapped around your neck then had a slot for one side to slip into and then the sides laid flat against your chest under your coat keeping neck and chest cozy. Thinking of those makes me miss my mom…. 🙁

Sorry KZ, if somehow knitting topic brought poignant yet sad memories. I made one of those for my Mom, they’re called keyhole scarves. Doesn’t help you but saddens me too as now, well I’ve said it before here, no contact with family. Anyway, not for here, we all have what we deal with. Hope that Mr. KZ is feeling better as opposed to his mood the other day and also hope that he enjoyed his b-day, whether he wanted to celebrate or not.
Our snowfall has melted in it’s entirety – but it’s coming, like it or not, and for me def not! Hate having to slow down but this am streets were slippery and I have dread fear of falling. Will have to rein myself in as I basically speed walk LOL.
Must go and think about Dorry and I eating something. For him it’s easy, well for me too as latte and muffin.

Brrrrrr it’s o cold and dark here because or the rain that the outside security light came on when I opened the door. I’m back in Winter clothes and having a cheese & onion toasted sandwich instead of salad for lunch. I have been busy preparing a beef casserole for the slowcooker for dinner. Great aromas due in an hour or so.
KZ, you have my sympathies on the snow you are due to get.
KJ, I am LOL at your description of stoned Dorry, he’s a happy wee chappy. May work well when he is nervous or frightened any time to relax him. Great find too KJ and the planter should be shallow enough for Dorry to dive into and play with the tempting yarn. 😀 Sounds like the open day at the vets was lots of fun and informative. Love the pen.

Tks again MS, didn’t think of planter as not so Dorry-proof. Might have to conjure up some sort of cover even though yarn is in pretty sturdy bags. Worst case scenario, I’ll just give the thing (not Dorry LOL) to friend whose house is laden with plants, nothing goes to waste. And for sure he’s not getting ‘nipped out on a reg basis as kitty rehab is not in my plans. 😉

Well potential prob solved as I discovered that one of my umpteen linen-look sm sq throw cushion covers (machine washable and kept for seasonal decor changes) will purrfectly fit over opening of planter and once tucked around yarn Dorry has my purrmission to sit on top of cover if he so chooses (not that I ever get any say in the matter, but nice to believe that I do.)

KJ, sounds like the purrfect solution and it give dorry a new spot to sit in. Cat’s love new spots.
Never fear catnip is totally non addictive and it’s fine for cats to have on a regular basis but it’s also great as a treat. You could have a plant in a hanging container so he can have the occasional fresh leaf or put it between paper towel and microwave for 30 seconds and then it is nice and crispy and the cats still love it.
PS. There has been a large quake down here in the Shaky Isles in my general area but all is well, I didn’t even feel it. It was apparently ‘weak’ in my area.

Thank goodness your area was not affected, MS. Didn’t hear anything on news, then again I don’t watch news all that much. Not to sound uncaring, but why is the place called Shakey Isles if it is in earthquake zone. Just seems a tad strange.

No problem, KJ, all my memories of my mom are good ones, just sometimes the longing for her and my dad feels overwhelming. Rushes over me like waves and especially this time of year. 🙂 I love my keyhole scarf, I think I’ll dig in the hatbox and see if I can find any! Mr. KZ actually did enjoy his birthday, whether he wanted to or not, LOL! It’s hard to be around people who love and care for you and stay in a funk!
Thanks MS, I would much rather be contemplating spring like you than staring winter down in the face.. 😡
I think I’ll go tackle that pumpkin roll, I hear it calling my name!

Oooh those Jaffas look good! I like orange flavored chocolate. Not a huge fan of calliflour, but that might be something I would try, Deb.
Sounds like a fun day, KJ – the pen is really cool! Leela likes some nip once in a while (I forget to offer it more often) but Comet doesn’t really care either way. Have not “turned on” Mac to it.
Ranch pork chops in the slow cooker came out great! Served over mashed potatoes with fresh green beans on the side. The gravy it was in was delish over everything. KZ, we enjoy pumpkin roll here. Hubby picks it up from Amish country once in a while.
Mac came back in for dinner and is happily sitting on his afghan by the fire. Think he is getting used to this? Might start calling him “Big Mac” as he is getting a bit rolly-polly!
