The weekend lounge is officially open! After the staff and lounge residents have eaten, mama kitties are bathing their babies, who are squirming because they want to play! Teen kitties will baby sit later, as they were up late partying last night. There is a young adult boy Maine Coon kitty poking at the fire, getting it to just the right temp, while his girlfriend fluffs the cushions and pillows – together they make the area very inviting and cozy. Then they look lovingly at each other and run out through the big glass doors to the meadow of freshly fallen snow and go for a walk.
The ceiling fans have been dusted, the patio swept, and the beach combed. The breeze gently blows into the lounge and is just the right temp from the water. It’s a good day for a family outing by the water!
Birds on both sides of the lounge are singing their very best songs and having fun teasing the kitties, staying just out of reach.
A bunch of kitties have set up tables with fresh linens and flowers for people who want to sit and have a proper meal served to them. A lovely buffet has been set up, with all of your favorite fresh hot and cold noms and bevvies. It’s sunny and bright throughout the lounge, so let a hostess kitty find just the right spot, take your order, and before you can say “how cute”, your order is served. Bonus: you get a purring cat at your feet while you eat, and will be ready for cuddles or play when you are finished, whatever you wish.
    Welcome!

Hi, Joan. The cafe sounds lovely. Even though I’ve had breakfast there’s always room for a donut. :).

My husband is coming back from central FL today…attended his aunt’s funeral. Since his car was totaled, and we’re still waiting on the check from the insurance company, he’s getting a ride from his sister and her husband. (He rented a car for the trip there.) It will be so nice to see them…they haven’t seen our boys in 6 years or so. They will just visit briefly, I think, since they have to make it home to North GA.

Sigh. I just unsubscribed from a yahoo support group for stomatitis (Lucy’s condition) cat owners. It was too sad to keep getting the emails. We can always rejoin if we’re reunited with her.

Morning EC and Joan! ….. the Cafe looks lovely, and I’m helping myself to some fresh grapefruit and cottage cheese (my fav breakfast when I eat breakfast) ….. I love the combed beach and pretty chairs setting out there, I think I’ll take my food and watch the waves while I eat this morning! ….. good description, Joan, of what our Gulf beaches really do look like on a beautiful Spring day like today! ……

Morning ECB & AV. I can understand not wanting to get those emails right now, ECB. It’s one thing to have a website to go to when you wish, another to get daily reminders.
AV, I think I’ll take up residence on one of the lounge chairs too.

It’s such a pretty picture sitting here on the patio. Grass grows just ahead, and there is a stone path that leads the sand and the water. It is cool to see the trees in my peripheral vision, and watch birds fly back and forth singing in the bright blue sky. And here’s our first kitty family making their way to the beach. Mama has the beach bag and beach towels, papa has the umbrella and beach chairs, and the kids are carrying their beach pails and toys.
    Ahh…

When you mentioned the kitties being teased by the birds, it reminded me…now that my cats are FL cats, they’ve seen their first lizards…only through the window for now. My mom does have several living in the house…they come in with her house plants. But they are not back in the part of the house the cats are living in. Oh the fun they would have hunting!

LOL @ EC! ….. yes, our Fla cats love their lizards! ….. no matter how we try to keep them out, they (and the palmetto bugs) will find their way in ….. luckily, my Abby is the ‘supreme’ huntress, and diligently patrols our perimeters, as well as rounding up any unwanted intruders! ….. unfortunately, she wants to sing/bring her ‘catch’ to me ….. fortunately, over the years, I’ve learned which of her ‘songs’ means she’s got a captive, so I’m ready! ….. it’s fun being a Florida cat!

Yeah, growing up in FL, I have a few lizard in the house stories. I hate lizards (in the house, outside they are okay.) I’m not as terrified of them now…as long as they stay by the windows and the plants, I’m okay. But I do look forward to the kitties having their first hunt. I think they’ll like being FL cats. There are more squirrels to watch out the window here too. Lots of chattering!

Oh, and I know what you mean by the special song, AV. Emily has a special one for when she has a plastic spider in her mouth. I bet it would be the same one for live prey.

Oh my, you guys & your lizards! Not many around here. Smokie brought a snake once, being very showy about it. In her short life she made quite an impression. And Shaddo never paid much attention to leaving “outdoor toys” outside!

Joan, when we used to have the house in the NC mountains, Abby would of course fly up there with me when I went to stay for a while, and her ‘new’ friends up there were tiny little field mice that would come in through the fireplace ! ……. and of course, her other favorite past time was sitting on the back of the couch, watching the finch feeders that I had hung outside the window – which were always occupied! Cuddles was never really a hunter, and I really can’t remember her ever bringing me a ‘prize’ …… must be beneath her Queenly aire

Leela and Comet collaborated on catching a mouse once. Comet did most of the pouncing while Leela batted the wee thing back into play.
Many years ago Shaddo and Jiggs teamed up and left a dead mouse at hrhe back door for hubby to find. This was after I saw one in the attic and instructed the boys to handle it, as I had to go out. The theory is that one cat kicked it out of the attic and the other pounced, then they “finished the job” together, and did exactly what they were told!

I’m finally reporting! hahha got my bike, love it! (didnt get pics yet…too tired) got lost in manhattan. i rode the thing uptown instead of down, but i managed to get home. i’m happy i can ride it, n i left catface try it out. i took it in the subway which was funny. everyone around me was checking out my bike, some people starting stroking and petting it. and at the lexington and 96th station i heard a cat meowing loudly several times, but didnt see anything. the aspa is not far away but not close enough for you to hear a cat. it’s on 92nd street….so it’s over and down a ways.

Yay Nirmal, glad you got the bike – and got home eventually, hehe!
    Wonder where the kitty was.
Took a few things out of mom’s attic – among my stuffed animals was a Steiff (of Austria) bunny with the tags still on, a black kitty from Healy Toys of England that I got when I was there in 1979, a Pound Puppy (a hot item on the early 80’s – hoping niece will want that), and a really neat little tiger with moveable limbs and head and sturdy fur that I rember absolutely loving. (Still do, totally squealed when I saw it!)
Then, carefully wrapped in a soft cloth, was my favorite kid book ever. “A Cat Called Cindy” with my name and birthdate inside. Funny thing is that the recent children’s book thread got me to thinking about it, and figuring it was long gone, just paid a few bucks and got a copy on amazon!

lol me too. n u know it was nice because even though i’m having that how do we say it ‘tender moment at this time of the month’ so im more emotional, easily stressed and freak out more than usual, i did not really panic this time. i was little oh crap here and there, but i kept my cool. it was a nice ride too, overall. we r not really supposed to ride on the sidewalks here, but i did. in time, maybe i’ll get used to the edge of the road, but it felt good that after quite a few years…honestly must be over 6 since i rode last, i could still ride, even though i’d gained a lot of weight since the last time.

Hi all, the Cafe looks amazing, sparkling and spiffy and the beach sand is so tidy and combed. I have a hankering for a cup of coffee and a cinnamon bun.
it’s Sunday here and I was woken up too early by HRH meowing in my ear wanting company. Sigh Once we were up she wanted to share our breakfast bacon. I’ve spent the morning smoking fish heads, there’s a lot of meat on them or so Mr MS tells me. We’ll see.
Joan, you have a Steiff bunny! ! I hope you have had it valued.
SNS, sounds like you had a good time riding your bike.

    Evening all,
Speaking of kit’s innate hunting skills, at times I will discover Dorry transfixed by something that eludes me. Ultimately he is staring at a housefly which despite its name has gotten in where it does not belong. Once said fly starts it’s buzzing Dorry goes after it, OK sometimes with my help, ’cause I hate those insects buzzing around. Interesting that his plush life with food served on a plate (he began life indoors and it stays that way) has not seemed to deter his predatory skills, he’ll catch then dispatch it and get my congrats well, he is a cat!

Hi MS & KJ! Shadz is smart – b-fast bacon is good stuff!
I’m glad Dorry can help with the flying pests and track them for you KJ. Comet was doing his weird sheep-like sound last night and today I discovered a moth that met its demise.
So a Steiff is worth something? His name is Snuffy – I will look it up.

Yeah, for sure I would check Steiff item out, they can be worth quite a bit, depending on condition, etc. OK now I sound like “Antiques Road Show” LOL. So Comet makes other animal sounds as well? Impressive (but don’t tell Miss Leela that I said so). For me it’s hopefully early-ish night although feeling energized after day of sleep. Holiday starts Monday night, lots of last minute things to get done. Have a good nite all!

Since it’s Sunday for some, the lounge has added palms to the decor for Palm Sunday. Oh and it’s my “other” birthday too – I was born on Palm Sunday!
Brother and I took a crib and a playpen out of the attic. Put it out in the front of the house. Mom doesn’t want to put them in the shelter sale since they are not up to modern safety standards. Both would be great for a collector to display stuff in.

    #805724

    wow nice happy birthday joan!

    #805725

@moon – i sure did. i felt like a kid again, but better. i never dreampt i’d get to ride a bike in manhattan!
