I had just arrived at work when the first plane hit. My boss was working out of his “second office” that day, a Starbucks near his home (saves him a 2-hour round-trip commute). He called the second professor who used to work here and told her what had happened. She asked him what movie he was watching. He told her it was real, and while he was still on the phone with her, he saw the second plane hit.

I tried to get on a news site–any news site–on line, but they were all so busy that I couldn’t get on until noon.

Recognizing Father Mychael Judge, the first recorded fatality, who was in West Milford before becoming the FDNY Chaplain.

Also West Milford resident Jeremy Glick, flight 93 ‘let’s roll’.

CNN is reporting about the guy who probably was the very first person to die in the terror attack; he was stabbed to death on one of the planes. http://www.cnn.com/2013/09/09/tech/innovation/danny-lewin-9-11-akamai/index.html?hpt=hp_t1

Turning a double post into a thank you to all special as TDK Family today.

You’ve enhanced my life on almost a daily basis since 2009.

I was at work in Kansas City. The only TV monitor, normally used for watching training videotapes in a conference room, was pulled out and plugged in so everyone working the helpdesk could see. I remember seeing both buildings, and thinking to myself, there’s no way they can withstand that kind of damage and remain standing.

Less than 15 minutes later, the first building collapsed.

I remember hearing at least one reporter saying that the Red Cross recommended donating blood, if people were looking for a way to help. And I remember thinking to myself, there aren’t going to be enough survivors to whom to donate blood.

And then I saw the second building collapse.

Most of all, I remember the surreal feeling to the morning; how with one change to a paradigm, everything changed – except perhaps for human nature, for better and for worse.

I’m so sorry, Buttons! Hope you’re feeling better soonest.

Rex has relapsed, had a full bladder and a significant degree of discomfort. They’re going to try palpating, and if no crystals are felt, they’ll see if they can express his bladder manually. If not, they’ll try catheterizing him again.

C’mon, Rex! You need to pull through this tough spot. I know it’s hard, but keep trying!

Mr. K went to where people were gathering to volunteer, but all they needed was people who could work on “the pile”; ironworkers, construction workers, anyone who could help dig through tons of metal & debris. So then he went to the hospital closest to the site, where they were still hoping to have victims to treat, but they eventually told people to go home, they weren’t going to need the blood donations. At least he tried. I was stuck at my desk 3 miles from the site, doing the first of way too many searches about things I never wanted to know about.

Oh no, Buttons – feel better soon. Lots of rest, liquids and soak in the healing powers of the TDK blankie.

Rex, you can do this, dude. I know it’s ouchy, but you do your job and fight, and the nice people will do theirs, and before you know it, you will feel better.

My therapist, one of whose specialties is trauma therapy, was called up to NYC to counsel first responders. His cell phone was the only one that had any reception, and he spent a lot of time relaying messages. He breathed in the dust from the site and, to this day, gets congestion and a cough from it.

I think that experience is one of the things that led him to get his big dog, Atticus, who is being trained to be a therapy dog. First responders who would feel uncomfortable expressing their thoughts and feelings to other people would find it easier to “let go” talking to a dog.

Thanks guys but Im handing over the TDK blankie to Rex he needs it more than me at the moment so you need to get better soon Rex so I can get that blankie back..

Come on Rex get better soon… Ann if his kidneys are functioning normally and it is just crystals I would highly recommend the D-mannose some find its more effective than most meds that are ment to reduce build up..

Feel better wishes Buttons, no fun with flu even during Summer. Wow Kilroy, what a feeling being so close on that fateful day with your hopes up but your hands tied to the reality of tragedy.

Here’s Scootie wanting all to share a purry furry comforting moment.

Heading out to purrfect patio for a few on my day 2 at this place. Happy not as hectic as yesterday. Know too well next week will be different for doing the solo thing as officemate takes her vaca. Oh well, back in a bit.
