The Cotton Candy machine was patented in 1899 by William Morrison and John C. Wharton. It was brought to the St. Louis World’s Fair in 1904, where it gained popularity. Originally called fairy floss, this sweet treat is made from Floss (or Flossine) sugar.

On a far more more sombre note today also marks Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, commemorating the Japanese attack on the U.S. Naval base at Pearl Harbor which began at dawn December 7, 1941. It crippled the U.S. Pacific Fleet, and caused the U.S. to enter World War II.

On December 8, 1941 President Franklin D. Roosevelt stated in a speech to Congress it was “..a day that will live in infamy”.

“It don diez” That’s true about Cotton Candy….

At my first teen job, I worked at the local burger joint and they had a cotton candy machine. It was fun to make glossy candy or floss.

I’m watching an usual movie “Passenger.” Then to join my gang in bed.

    Morning all!

Dreary out with mix of snow/rain, said to be getting colder over next few. ๐Ÿ™ Getting wrapped around this pm’s Philo course which turned out to be not as great as anticipated this session. Prof is highly knowledgeable but over last 2 or so lectures he got highly political with little relating to history of philosophy. I don’t much agree with his politics and this was not what I signed up for. But he does have a captive audience. Anyway next wk is final class so I might as well finish the session. And after hols I’m on to totally diff course.

Also feeling a bit stressed/down today anyway so this does not help. But far better to at least get out instead of feeling sorry for self. And 6 p spin class should somewhat reverse low mood if not obliterate it altogether LOL. Think that a bit of soothing knitting is in order.

Love the Candygram-I can’t understand why the birdies don’t love it! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

We finally got 4″ of snow and I’m a happy camper. Tonight it’s going to get down to -1f/-18c.

Sorry you’re not feeling good, KJ. I’m hope this class is better than the last 2. It’s so disappointing when people interject their positions in a class. I’m interested in what class you’ll be taking next month. Is your knee still hurting?

I finished part 2 of the Holocaust. There is so much information that makes me sad and angry. Off my *soapbox* Now I started on Ancient Egypt.

Here a fun quiz to make you smile:

Thanks for the pictures MS and PG. Also, PG for the video. Hearing taps always makes me sad but proud of our country and all the people who have given their lives to keep us safe.

KJ, I couldn’t post last night because my PC wasn’t doing anything. I have no idea why. Anyway, I thank you for the photo of the pretty striped sweater. I tried to enlarge the photo but it wouldn’t go. I would like to see more of your sweaters, especially the silk/merino wool one you’re starting.

You say you like your clothes to fit rather loosely and that’s as it should be with knits. I always buy a size large in sweaters even though I’m small-busted and thin. Knit clothing should not be skin tight–unless, of course, you look like Marilyn Monroe and want to show off all your curves (not in the best of taste, though, I think). When I was younger I could wear knit dresses fairly well fitted but, even though I weigh the same as when I was 20, the stuff has moved around to non-flattering places. You work out so diligently and do the hardest exercise there is that I’m sure you’re in great shape and all the knits you make fit beautifully.

So, you’re planning to knit a dress; is this the first one you’ve ever made? Seventy-70-sweaters!! My gosh! I want to know how you keep the moths from getting to them. I had some moth holes last year and now need to find someone who can reweave. There was no trouble finding reweaving shops when I lived in D.C. years ago but I’m skeptical about finding one here in S. C.

I’m off today and need to work on keeping the outdoor kitties warm because the nighttime temps are going to be in the 20’s starting tomorrow. I have six hard discs that you microwave for 7-8 minutes and the heat is supposed to last about 6 hours. The have felt covers so they don’t burn but I never know which shelter or which dog house the’re going to sleep in. I filled up all the places with Timothy hay two weeks ago. I was going to buy a bale of straw and the saleslady told me how much softer this hay is and I’m so glad. This hay is much nicer than straw. I wish the inventors would come up with something soft that can be microwaved and hold heat for hours.

    Warm regards to everyone.

Hi everyone – cotton candy is fun, but in very small quantities for me. Had some many years ago at a carnival. Pure sugar that melts in your mouth!
Saw an interesting program a few weeks ago about a new camera that went down into the USS Arizona – further than any camera has gone and further down than is safe for a diver to go. They found a hat and a uniform still on its hanger. Apparently there is less oxygen that far down and items are better preserved. It was like looking back in time…
Got the remaining bales of straw from the garden center this morning. I’ve been out carving out an area to arrange the shelters and straw. We got some snow which has mostly melted but hope to get some tarps before the next rain/snow.

    P. S. to KJ: I missed yesterday’s posts and didn’t know about your fall. I’m glad you weren’t seriously hurt. Were you in the maroon boots? I was just looking at things you attach to the bottoms of your shows sort of like snow tires for your shoes. They’re ugly but may very well make walking in snow and ice safer. Just a suggestion.

Glad that you like sweater, LDS. The silk/merino one is somewhere down on the list LOL. After the one that ideally will be finished by next week is finished there’s one I started in Irish Aran tweed, but not with all those complicated cables as this would be too overwhelming on me. Then purrhaps a dress which will take some time. As mentioned everything that I have fits looser than shown in pattern pic, but that’s my style. I’m (more than) spritely hehehe.

I was wearing the maroon boots. I do have those cleats, but they can also be hazard as they tend to fly off, ie in the middle of the road. But one of my (not 70) prs of boots are warm water-repellent rain boots with flip-out cleats. Plus a special gadget for flip-out process. One has to flip cleats back in when indoors, or one can srsly fall. A locker room employee broke her arm falling that way in supermarket.

PG, tks for asking. Knee less picky than yest, but upper arm achy, prob from carrying heavy stuff or side effect from fall.

Also, could not find goat’s milk yest, so went back to cow’s variety. And feel quite nauseated. Fortunately on way hoe picked up goat variety. Purrhaps I am part kit!

Well, first part of class was interesting. After break some woman got us side-tracked and prof did not shut her down (as someone sitting near me whispered.) How we got from philo to US foreign policy and Middle Eastern refugee crisis is something that I cannot fathom. (Which another purrson mentioned to me as we left.) One more class for this session so I’ll stick it out, although I was knitting for last half-hr. Next term I’m taking “British Palaces and Country Houses” should be totally diff vibe. Purrhaps I’ll pick up some DIY tips.;-)

Studying the Holocaust – very intense. Ancient Egypt sounds fascinating. I would do online courses, but I’m also looking to get out aside from gym and have some venue for discussion.

I also had a sort of a thing with place that I was supposedly volunteering for. I treat volunteer work like paid work. And I for sure do not like not hearing back when I’ve put in time/effort, and then finding out that my work has to be reviewed by someone who in all likelihood does not have my skills and who does not speak with me directly. I’m not perfect in any way, but I’ve worked in this field long enough to get more respect. So I was very forthcoming oin reply to an email and sense that I might be bidding org a farewell, having in any case not done all that much for them. Something will or will not come through if I keep looking. Sadly mine is not the first instance that I know of where one wants to help, but it is not appreciated and/or office politics intervenes.

Thanks for hearing me out guys! I’m not all that much fun on a down day. Is anyone?

I’m off to change for gym and then I’ll be back to discover what breed of cat I am. Can’t wait to find out! ๐Ÿ™‚

PG, couldn’t access that cat breed quiz (prob my browser or purrhaps one has to be on FB.) ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Undeterred I sourced out another cat breed quiz.

    And here’s what I got!
    Bengal

“You (take) pride (in) your appearance and spend a lot of time getting ready in the mornings! You are also quite proud of yourself and your family.”

Hmmm … sorta describes aspects of moi! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Guess family means Dorry! Forgot purrfectionist as bracketed words are what were left out of description. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Think I’ll head on out to gym and see who wants to chill.
