The five 3wk-old kittens are doing well. They are pooping and were using their litter box with a success rate of about 40% on their first day. I was shocked they landed any in there, it doesn’t seem like it would be common sense to go for the wood chips over elsewhere. They are becoming fatter, faster, fearless and less frantic during feeding time. They have started purring and they enjoy being handled. They started tearing the nipple clean out of the bottle and chewed the end off, so I figured that would have been mamakitty’s cue to start introducing soft foods. Peppy (fixed male yorkie) has not lost interest. If anything, he has become more fond of them. He doesn’t like me to hold them out of his sight while feeding them. He gets so anxious he starts panting and producing the most pathetic high-pitched whining sound, a behavior I have never seen in the 8 years we have had him. So I have to climb up on the bathroom sink so the other kittens can’t climb up me and pull Peppy up there, too. I’m looking forward to what they will be like on their 4th week. I wasn’t going to name them, but have decided to name them after nuts– Filbert, Hazel, Coco, Pistachio, etc.

OMG they are so cute that my ‘puter might explode!!! Wee silvery tabbies, remind me of my Dorry boy when he was itty bitty! So what’s the fifth name? Macadamia, Almond, Cashew, Peanut … ❓

@katzenjammer I’m not sure what each one will be yet because I don’t know their genders. Most could be either (like Peanut, Cashew, Pecan), but some are definitely male (Filbert, Walley[walnut], Pistachio) and female (Hazel, Coco, Almondine). Macadamia is a good one, too! All those furry bits looks like balls to me, so I’ll likely have to look up how to tell. Dorry is so handsome, I hope they grow into cats as striking as him. I can’t wait to see what colors their eyes will be. Peppy will probably try to play with them once they get better motor skills. Right now they are like chubby little stiff-tailed drunks staggering around in search of their next drink.

So I just noticed one of the kittens has adopted a very unique… pooping stance. Is this something to be worried about? I didn’t manage to catch it on camera, but it looked something like this: Poop Stance Sketch

Hahaha–poop stance sketch–love that title….anyway, give the kitten some time to get all this figured out, but I don’t think it’s anything to worry about. BTW, the KITTENS ARE ADORABLE! And of course Peppy is so sweet to obsess about them too. 😆

@kittyzee That’s a relief. I hope he gets it figured out before it becomes a habit. Seems to work for him, but there’s no way it beats a traditional squat. They’ve almost finished an entire can of KMR in just 5 days. I couldn’t find any KMR at the grocery store, so I started them on the canned paté-style catfood and they LOVED it. Snarfed it down like little piggies and then took some watered down formula, too. I also wanted to find them a little jingle ball to play with, but they didn’t have any of those either. Will have to wait until I can make it to a larger store. They seem to be more coordinated and are still kind of hit-and-miss with the litter. A couple of them are feeling like they have gained a lot of weight. =)

To save you some money, get some goats milk they will do wonderful on it. In the refigerated milk section of the grocery or in the baking aisle in cans. Thr canned is condensed so add water 1 to 1. Keep an eye on your non squatter, hopefully he will wstch the others and see how it’s done.

They are changing so fast. Their tails are not always stick-straight, they have more teeth, they run and pounce. They are using their litter box perfectly… when they’re not playing in it.
