Today is Thread the Needle Day. Sew what! Well the term “thread the needle”, is also a saying, meaning to either walk a fine and difficult line between two things or issues, or to do something difficult. Wow!

Good morning – KJ, are those kitties ordering yarn for you?
I guess we all thread the needle – between choices we make and circumstances that arise.

Thursday is my sister’s b-day, so I made a cake for her to have at mom’s today.

Good luck at your appointment today, PG!

PG, just re-posting from yest thread:

PG, prayers that appt goes well and especially hope that ortho comes up with a plan to get you off needing a brace, pain meds etc. and not having your customary mobility. Sounds like you might have the first appt, meaning the ortho won’t be as overburdened and you might get more time.

Dorry concurs with my hopes. Not sure that kits actually pray, though.

Today, hope that your not waiting hours on end for appt.

I used to sew, but not so much anymore. I do mend quite a bit.

I washed some old woollen Hudson’s Bay blankets: the edging is all gone, so I’ll have to do blanket stitching to keep them from fraying; it is also decorative. I’ll have to find some woollen yarn. I like the throw or bedspread wool-seeking cats are lounging on.

They are hanging outside now, as there is finally some sun.

PG, all my hopes for an improvement in your health (I’ll leave the praying to the religious kitten-fanciers among us). Kits think we should be praying to them.

Lagatta, if you need quite a bit of yarn you might want to just purchase a ball. Diff qualities/diff costs but Omer DesSerres sells wool yarn as does Fabricville and then there are knitting shoppes. If you don’t need all that much DMC tapestry yarn is 100% wool and available at Omer DesSerres and Fabricville and in my n’hood Jeanette’s specializes in tapestry yarn. Going further east there’s also L’Oiseau Bleu, way back (I used to do x-stitch and needlepoint) I ordered tapestry yarn from them but I’ve never been in the shoppe. A few skeins might do the job!

Well my hair stylist saved me from myself as I knew he would! Fab job and he also took the time to explain what can be DIY in-between appts ie if need be hair cutting scissors and a cutting angled razor are best (I have both). And only for minimal trims on sideburns/around ears – not on the back! 😮 Electric clippers very bad idea.

Weather turned out quite pleasant so I might walk over to library l8r as I have nothing to read that appeals.

    Good afternoon all!

PG, sending good vibes for good news on your painful knee. Keep us updated on what ortho doc says!

Beautiful day here today, low humidity and sunny. Nice break from the AC and some fresh air into the house. The cats are all window sitting, watching nesting birds around the various windows and feeding babies. We have wrens this year–they are fascinating little birds that will put a nest into anything that suits them. And they sing nonstop! Such a pleasant sound too, not irritating like the starlings out back by the patio! 😛

KJ, the pics made me laugh especially coffee cat and I too, was wondering if those kits were ordering your yarn for you!! Maybe you could convince Dorry to try and make an online order….hee hee!

We had our first sweet corn from the patch at lunch time today. Avery was so excited and so cute with kernels on her face and butter on her cheeks and hands. The first batch is just so good, even though the kernels are small–in another few days it will be perfect. Mr. KZ just couldn’t wait and picked a few ears today!

KJ – reading recommendation – latest in a series of Steam Punk/Weird West/Horror – The Queen of Swords, by RS Belcher. Very timely in that it centers on strong women characters/heroines. I just finished it and it was a very good read.

Tks TM! They have this book at one of my free libraries. It’s part of a series, wonder if it works as a stand-alone read. Have you read the other books in the series?

JJ and KZ, I feel confident that it “must” be Dorry ordering yarn on my behalf. Otherwise how to explain 35 sweaters and 1 dress yet to be made. Not including the 2 that I am working on as they are cotton = for Summer. Can’t pawsibly be me who ordered all that yarn! 😉

Can there pawsibly be such a thing as “sleep online ordering” as in sleep walking etc.? Hmmm … well I/or Dorry LOL orders yarn when it’s on sale and to I don’t purrmit myself to go the route that many knitters go down as UFO’s (unfinished objects) so it’s all good.

Yesterday’s rainy day project was going through my pants. An old pair of jeans worn out beyond suitable wear will provide denim patch for another that need the knee patched. Yes, I know ripped jeans is a fashion statement, but not my style. Besides, just need them to be yard work, kicking around the house jeans.

KJ, that’s awesome of stylist to show you DIY between cuts and advising you to back away from elec razor!
Knitted dress sounds fabulous! I had one long ago, loved it.

KZ, hubby and I were just discussing corn yesterday. We want it all summer long, but know it’s not really that yummy sweet flavor until late July. There’s a farm nearby and he’s just started picking some.

Sister’s b-day cake came out good – and in case you didn’t know, birthday cake has no calories. After Tuesday lunch I trekked to Walmart, for I’m low on cat food and needed to get some more scrubs for work. Since my sister retired to be a full time granny, she gave me her scrubs, though I can only wear the tops as she’s much shorter than me. Cool thing is she worked for an animal hospital so the tops I got from her are of the cat/paw print type. Purrfect for me!

Afternoon all, hope the knee gets better! …. I absolutely love Silver Queen white corn, and it is abundant around here! ….. My favorite way to fix it is wrapped in foil with butter/salt/pepper and throw it on the grill …. then when you open it, squeeze a fresh lime on it! You won’t believe how fabulous the flavor is!

Well, JUI is out of jail, he called today, said he is clean/sober and signed up for their AA continuing help program …. said the deadbeat GF is going to do it too …. he’s coming back tomorrow I’m glad! I was hoping he wouldn’t go back to her, but we’ll see …. I told him that as ‘unfun’ as jail was, it gave him a chance to get sober …. he said he felt great (I bet! with all the alcohol out of his system), and can’t wait to come back to work. Scotty and Mr. AV have really taken a hand in helping him and giving him a second chance ….. he is a good kid, I hope he continues to improve himself ….

Got a lot done today, good thing cause I have to babysit a home inspector tomorrow on a home I just helped one of my attorney/clients make an offer on …. later all!

    AV, “Meowtain” very, very good!

JUI was in jail? Goodness! So now he has a record and all. Good of you, Mr. AV and Scottie to support him in his efforts to turn his life around.

My hair stylist offered to buy my clipper. Although I am keeping the excellent scissors, comb and brush for dusting off those pesky after even minor trim hair snippets, he’s kewel with that. I think that I might just gift him with it, I mean he’s just such a nice guy. And purrhaps it’s “unsafe” for that clipper to be in my place. 😉

JJ, interesting that you wear scrubs at work. But I don’t know exactly what your duties include, guess if you have to clean and lay out instruments it’s part of the deal. Or if not, it does create a medical professional vibe. But it saves your clothes and having to plan office outfits. And neat that you get to wear some purry threads! 🙂

To again demonstrate how “brilliant” I am, came home just now and even though before leaving I’d put on A/C it was hot. I was ready to call and cuss out A/C repair guy who came last wk. Then discovered that if I flip “on” gizmo it will go on. *Sigh*

KJ, JUI got 30 days for not showing up to his probation hearing …. *sighs* I think deadbeat GF just wouldn’t drive him ….. He’s had so many DUIs they took his license away …… She also takes all his money, so he probably didn’t have the funds to make his court payment. It’s a bad situation.

KJ – You don’t need electric tools or accoutrement. 🙄
That would be a very nice gift.

    Meowtain? 😆

I’m sorry JUI was in jail. The hanger ons can be the worst influence but they don’t see it. I hope he can do it.

Oh fresh corn-how I want thee!

Thanks for all the well wishes. I’m having knee replacement surgery 10/2/2017. We talked about my knee, the pain and he proceeded to manipulate it all around. He wanted to know what it sounded like and it’s rubbing two rocks together. The X-ray confirmed that I have no-none-nil cartilage between my patella and tibia. This has been a long process. It started about 10 years ago and the knee injections are usually the last gasp. When I had the SYNVISC gel injection, I had a reaction and we think that’s why all this has happened in whirlwind. As I’m sure KZ can tell you, when you’re in pain for long time you can’t imagine anything different.

I’m looking forward to this surgery. A lot of people aren’t keen on surgery but if this is the way to pain free, I’m good with it.

    That’s all Cya l8r

Oooh, lime on the corn, must remember that!

    Meowtains, teeheehee!

I do set up rooms, as well as set up the whirlpool and help patients get their tootsies in and out of it. I also do some sweeping and cleaning up plaster (feet molds to make orthotics) throughout the day. No one wants to get their nails cut in a room with random nail clippings around. However doc said he decided on the scrubs because someone who worked for him sometimes dressed inappropriately! I do like not having to think too hard about what to wear (though jewelry must be coordinated!), and comfy footwear is a big plus!

Now I really need to pare down my wardrobe.

Good afternoon all. We have a sunny day after a frosty night although there is a nasty chilly wind but at least the washing is flapping and should get dry. HRH is curled up in the sun in a sheltered corner of the deck absorbing as much sun as a cat can.
JJ, Happy Birthday to your sister for Thursday and enjoy the cake.
PG, I hope the ortho appointment was all positive for you.
Lagatta, I used to love doing blanket stitching when I could remember how to do it.
KJ, yay for the stylist saving your hair after the nasty accident it had with the electric clippers. 🙂
JK, love the keep calm and grab the seam ripper. Been there and grabbed the ripper but didn’t always keep calm. Mum was an excellent seamstress, as the eldest child of six children she was the one to help her mother sew for the family and then her own children and then she did sewing for others before specialising in wedding dresses. Needless to say she made my wedding dress. I wasn’t as good at sewing and gave up once the girls were older as material/fabric began to cost more than buying a garment.
KZ, I just heard a different bird song outside and it was a couple of starlings fighting over an apple I put out for the birds. I would rather starling than noisy argumentative mynahs any day. Your wrens sound lovely. Ohhhhhh fresh sweet corn, sweet memories of last Summer. 🙂
JJ, I was looking at Mr MS’s work jeans with the thigh/pocket area blown out and I guess I will have to patch them too. His job is very rough on his jeans not to mention the amount of dirt they get on them too.
AV, lime on sweet corn? TDK never ceases to amaze me for new culinary ideas. I now ‘nuke’ the corn in the husks, Dee taught me that one but I definitely will try the lime come Summer. Oh I must have missed JUI going off to jail. Kudos to him for the AA programme and may he succeed. He he he at the joke.
KJ, you’re keeping the clipper? 🙄 🙄 Maybe you should attach a note to it saying ‘Remember what happened last time’.
PG, Fantastic news on the knee replacement(I am jealous). Oh your knee and mine make the same noise and my cartilage is gone too. You are so right about the pain, especially when you have lived with it for a long time. It just become the norm. Make sure you have as much of your legs as fit as possible as that really helps with rehab after surgery although with the swimming you do that shouldn’t be a problem.
I have just made a big pot of bacon hock and vegetable soup for Mr MS’s lunches out in the cold fields and assisted Mum this morning to make some pumpkin and red lentil soup.

PG, I wouldn’t generally say that I’m glad someone’s having surgery, but you know where I’m coming from and I’m glad for you. From what I’ve heard – and these are seniors, not someone young like you – knee replacement is basically a new lease on life. Esp if you do any req’d physio follow-ups, which I’m sure you’d pay srs heed to. Just a 3 month wait? Wow! Here peeps wait like 2-3 yrs or so on a long list. Sometimes that’s just for the ortho appt. Guess each country’s health care system has its pluses/minuses.

Dressing innapropriately. Hmmm … the mind boggles. Although at my “that place” when we went “business casual” (although being in a creative dept we were always allowed to wear denim and the like) there was a long list of rules. On day co. president came up from US a woman was sent home as she was basically on the verge of being nekked. I too don’t get paying $$$ for ripped denim. And Happy b-day to sis on Thurs.

MS, I still recall high school Home Ec sewing class where teacher took srs dislike to me. Now I think that I would like a basic machine for home decor and the like, but it’s not in my plans as yet.

My immediate plan is going to bed so I’ll say good nite!

KJ, I have read all 3 books in the series and it would definitely help to read all of them in order but I think Queen of Swords will definitely make sense without the others as well.

It is really heartbreaking when someone faces an adult child screwing up like that. A cousin, a lovely person, has one daughter with whom I’m working now, but her son also got busted for cocaine. He was selling and doing a lot of drugs, including drinking too much (cousin and I enjoy our wine, but not in that destructive way). Hope he gets the help he needs: AA, CA, NA et al aren’t for everyone, but there are alternatives.

Thanks for the yarn advice. I’ll check the prices at Omer de Serres. I have been to L’Oiseau bleu, but it is VERY far east. I used to work in the area, teaching languages at the local YMCA…

Oh, I’ll definitely be buying at a ball or skein.

Blanket-Stiching is a skill that will probably come back if you start doing it.
