This Special Day honours Joel Roberts Poinsett. The first Ambassador to Mexico, Poinsett brought these colourful plant back to his Greenville, S.C. plantation and gave them out as gifts. NB: Poinsettias are highly toxic for kits! As are many other plants – the ’nip thankfully excluded!

Happy Chanukah, KJ and all who celebrate!

This year I got a pretty and very realistic looking silk poinsettia to put in the cat window seat. It needed some holiday cheer.

Tuesdays we rush out the door pretty early, so leaving soon. Not looking forward to the cold….brrr. But I know most of you have it much worse.

    Happy Tuesday!

Bahahahaaa ECB, cold…if it’s in the 50’s around here we don’t even wear coats! It is COLD here, winds of 20 mph, and it’s snowing again. It’s really quite pretty, but glad I don’t have to go out in it today. I actually like going out in it, but other peeps don’t know how to drive in this weather (or in good weather, for that matter) and drive way too fast with no assured clear distance. So staying home by the warm woodburner sounds like a plan.

KJ, thanks for the yummy treat you left by the wormhole last night!

PG, I’m so sorry about your torn muscle. I can’t imagine how painful that is. I just know that I had to calculate every move I made in the first months after my surgery. I actually still do, but am much more flexible now than then. I did fall a couple of months ago and hurt my left ankle. It is still healing, and a pair of shoes I just bought has been helping with that. I don’t know why as I didn’t go to the dr….but my ankles have always been a PITA to me. Sprains all of my life…*sigh* it’s just something I live with.

I need a poinsettia on a table I have with a Christmas quilt and a mouse village..but like ECB, it would have to be silk because the cats won’t leave my plants alone. The ones I have that are doing good are hanging in my bay window, but I brought a fern in and another ivy and they have been chewing the fern (and yakking) and digging the dirt out of both of them. I’m tired of cleaning up the messes for sure.

I love the suspicious plant! I have a spider plant hanging in the laundry area that Miss Moppet has found…so far.

It’s been in the high 50s and folks around here are wearing shorts and t-shirts. I guess ECB is going North for the holidays. I hope you packed a heavy coat, ECB. 😉

Massages, ice and Arnica have helped my calf. The tear will heal itself and, yes, I need to slow down.

    Have a happy~

Good morning – Happy Hanukkah! The suspicious plant pic is so funny, Shaddo would have done something like that!

I have had poinsettias, but have to put them high on a surface that Comet can’t get to. He loves eating plants. His only outlet is the corn husks I give him in the summer!

Thanks for hol happy wishes gang! And nice to see you ECB!

JK, those doughnuts are sufganiyot – a Sephardic custom. And delish! Ashkenazim such as myself would fry up latkes. The deal is to use oil – in remembrance of the oil in the Temple that burned for 8 days when there was only enough of said oil to burn for one.

And PG, those wee dreidl playing kits – squee!!!

For trivia buffs there is a custom to eat dairy (which is efurryday for this one! 😉 Based on the tale of the heroine Judith slaying Holofernes. Warning, it’s gory – very!

As indicated by the work by Artemisia Gentileschi a 16th century artist not lauded enough as she was a woman. Surprise, surprise. 🙄

First major snowstorm! The way the radio peeps report it, you’d think the world had ended! It’s much warmer out and while I’m glad to be in and both Dorry and I enjoy watching the snow blustering down, it’s not that bad. OK, so I did take a spill but applied fresh clean snow to my now bruised knee and took care of it.

Was on way to stylist. Takes me like a day or 2 for hair to “fall in” and for me to like it more. Think that others have similar experiences. Anyway – a first – purry tuxie Enzo came down to the basement (where salon is) to greet me. Beautiful sleek noir kit with a creamy white belly and matching white whiskers and booties! Purrhaps he sensed that I am a cat purrson!

And yeah, gave up on idea of moratorium of gifts to self. Late last night somehow discovered a jewellery store in our downtown area so easy to get to. Ordered me some interesting pieces at amazing liquidation prices! Two items will be turned into a necklace the DIY way, plus a leather bracelet and a kewel viper bracelet to keep my snake bracelet company. 😉 Even better, no shipping charges as I can pick the stuff up. It’s ready for me like now. But not setting foot out again today. Can wait until Thurs.

Afternoon all! Like EC, tomorrow will be ‘cold’ for me, any time 50s to low 60s is the high, we consider it cold! Caddy spends a lot of time in her fleecy bed on those days!

KJ, I’m glad your orders are arriving, mine are too! Just about every day something comes …. sadly, all over the news, they are warning us to keep an eye out for anticipated packages, as some ‘naughty’ thieves are following FedEx and UPS trucks and then taking the items off peoples porches! *unfluffy* thoughts!!!

Hope everyone enjoys their evenings, it’s happy hour wings at BWW, so off we go!

You had a moratorium of gifts to yourself, KJ? Must of missed it! 😆

Indeed PG! I think this moratorium was virtual! But I am planning the “KJ Austerity Program” – we’ll see how successful I am.

But among the hoard this viper bracelet for less than $13 – you wouldn’t “just say no” either. Well purrhaps you would – but I didn’t! 😉 Hope that it as well as the leather bangle bracelet has some bend to it as my wrists are tiny. If not I’ll wear it over sweater or higher up or something. I’ll have to get creative.

I forgot to ask if I should do the cafe for the first day of Hanukkah so we may have two cafes.

Actually I did something up PG, but I’ll deign to your generosity and see if I can scour the INet for some pics to add to the merriment! 🙂

    I missed Poinsettia day! !
The supermarket flower areas are full of red poinsettias to bursting point. I think a lot of people will get them as last minute panic ;what do I buy’ presents. The are usually what you give your dear old maiden Aunt.
Definitely not on most gift lists here.
