Well I love my tattoos I’ll say that firstly but I’m finding it so hard to get a job and I’m assuming it’s cause of the tattoo I have on my neck.. It’s of three stars and I could never imagine myself without it but I just found out there is a salon in my town that in newly qualified in tattoo lazed removal.. I’d need about 3-4 sessions spaced 6weeks apart and at a cost of €50 per session .. But when I was talking to the lady I found myself getting very emotional at the idea of removing my stars especially because I like them it’s not the case that I want them removed because I don’t like them it’s just so hard getting a job with them..

So now I don’t know what too do?! They feel so much a part of me I’d almost feel a sense of betrayal if I remove them and then people will probably say “oh look she regretted them she’s had them removed” and that would make me feel horrible
You see I’m well known I’m my town and EVeRyONE would notice I they were removed and I know I’d get so many comments!!

It is just my opinion, and I don’t want to convince you in any way, or talk you into smthg, but I don’t think they should be removed.

That’s a hard decision. Know a few peeps w/tattoos that dress properly as to camouflage/cover tattoos at work. Neck seems sort of more difficult though. Wonder if employment with a more creative co/atmosphere would be another way to go.

    It’s pretty hard/impossible to cover up πŸ™‚

Was just talkin to my friend and she was discusted with the thought of removing my neck tattoo .. Didn’t think she’d have such a strong reaction.. She said she’d be weirded out if I walk in the door without them.. I think looking for a friendly atmosphere job is the best idea Jean..

Dear Button’s………. There are plenty of products to “camo” the tatts. If you google makeup to cover tattoos, there are many.

What 12P just said, I’ve seen products advertised here on TV so there should be plenty available on line Buttons. look for products that cover birthmarks and port wine stains, scars, rosacea etc.
After a while of covering your tattoo up you may be able to let it slowly show.

Well I somehow doubt it is the tattoos. I live in the USA and have a RN license, and after I graduated nursing school it took me 2 YEARS to find my first nursing job. It is not just me either. Half of the people in my nursing school class who graduated with me had to look for a year or longer before someone would give them their first nursing job. I’m currently unemployed right now because I had to quit my job due to pregnancy (back when I was pregnant). It was my second nursing job.

My first nursing job laid me off after about seven months due to a corporate take over. The second job I left due to pregnancy. I had only been there eight months, and in the USA, you don’t qualify for maternity leave until you’ve worked at a place for over a year, so when the doctor ordered me on bed rest I was forced to quit that job. I could return to work at the former second job now that my baby is 3 months old, but there are no openings on any of the shifts that I am available to work, so I am back to square one now. I am pounding the pavement job hunting, and getting turned down once again because “not enough experience” or “too much experience” (too much when I apply for things like phlebotomy positions). It is hard getting a job when you have no connections. I know a lot of nurses who are unemployed and looking for work. I’m tied into a house mortgage so I cannot just pack up and move.

My point being, the economy stinks right now. I don’t know how the economy is where you live, but it could be just that. Good luck to you.

Thanks MS it’s silly really until you and 12pawz mentioned it I never thought I cover up makeup… It might be a good test go to an interview with the cover up on and see if I’m treated any differently..

Snowkitten so sorry about the position your in at the moment! The economy here in Ireland is pretty lousy especially in West Cork very few new jobs about..

I get the whole “too much” experience speech too a lot… I’ve been managing retail outlets since I was 18! Infact my first managerial job was managing two large sports chain stores at the same time! And looking after a staff of over 30 people and that was when I was 18! I’ve had lots of manager/supervisor jobs since and am well experienced in the pharmaceutical companies but still no joy not even if I apply for a simple part time shop assistants roll..

I’m still hopeful my sisters boss will open another store in my town I’ve basically been offered the manager position if he does.. But it might never happen..

I don’t know what laser removal is like, Buttons, but if the salon is newly certified to perform the procedure, I’d want to see some examples of their work before considering letting them work on me. I’d want to make sure that their results are good. In times past, tattoo removal has sometimes left scars, and I’d rather have stars than scars.

Hey Buttons, just weighing in, I have to say I agree with all the suggestions here. If you love your tattoos, keep them! But, in this stinky economy, where they will use any excuse (how can you simultaneously be not qualified/too qualified?!), the cover makeup sounds like a good option. You dress up for an interview even though your preferred garb might be jeans and a tee: why not carry it a bit further and hide the tat? Once you get your foot in the door and they can see what a valuable employee you can be, you might be able to ‘come out’. Or, maybe your boss won’t care a bit and it’s just the HR person who’s being sticky. Throwing some positive white light your way! (And to anyone who’s trying to score a job these days)

Lol at PC recommendation of “coming out” πŸ™‚

Thanks for the positive vibes you guys Ive no doubts now I will keep my precious tattoo πŸ™‚

Mentioned it to Mr B this morning to to see his response and he wasn’t best pleased either πŸ™‚ obviously everyone around me is so used to it now… I will say I’m the only one of my friends that has a tattoo none of my family have any either so it’s not like they want me to keep them cause it’s their kinda lifestyle too cause they are all very clean cut which I always thought makes it funny on nights out … We’re all so prim and proper.. But oh wait what’s this?? A woman covered in tattoos she looks a bit out of place πŸ˜€ lol!!

Snowkitten, Have you signed up with a nursing registry? That may provide you with some jobs. Also try the community health organizations that provide home care to seniors. It may not be in a hospital, but one of those avenues may lead to permanent work. If there is a retirement community in your area (not a retirement home but a community like Leisure World), you can post there. Some folks are looking for in home help and they may even let you bring the baby. That could save on childcare expenses and you could handle a lesser salary.

Buttons, the next time you don’t get the job, ask the interviewer if she/he can help you with your interviewing process. Explain that you know someone else was chosen for the job you wanted but see if the interviewer can give you some hints. Ask them to be honest and not to worry about your feelings. After you have had a couple of personnel folks tell you what you could have done differently, you may find out it’s something simple like not chewing gum, or wearing a different shirt. (I’m not suggesting that you do chew gum or wear inappropriate attire, just that the solution may be a simple thing you haven’t realized.)

Buttons, chiming in here, I would go for the cover-up makeup rather than the removal. I don’t of anyone who had their’s removed that were happy with it both because of losing something they enjoyed and the removal scar(s) were nicer than before.
