This day might bring back memories of the five-and-dime or corner store. And call to mind something that the kits are very good at – not to mention some of their purrsons – shopping – online, in-store, whatever.

    Meanwhile, at KJ’s …

Wednesday I scored very well in the shopping dept.! 🙂

New “interesting” chair pads for my soon to arrive dining set:

    On sale – excellent!

And a mat “just because” – it’s kits, irresistible!

Lagatta, both items at Simons. They do tend to have one-of-a-kind decor items.

And at Winners (Same as TJMaxx) navy and black raincoats. Also just because – did donate old raincoat and a handbag. 😉

Thanks to Kittenmaster for getting us up and running again.
Good grief the roads and stores are busy busy busy today. Crazy traffic as people head off for the long weekend a day early to avoid the traffic but I think they all have had the same idea and as for the stores they are shut Good Friday, one day people, you’re not going to starve in one day. heck when we were farming and a long way from anywhere we shopped once a month. Dismounts from soapbox.
Does this happen over Easter in your areas?
Wow KJ, do those chair pads look like rings of a tree trunk or am I imagining things? Love the kitty mat.
Overcast day here now after sunny hot humid morning.
Do I have a story – as I checked the house was all locked and things turned off last night I was startled by something in the kitchen making a noise but couldn’t see anything so assumed it was from outside. Came down bleary eyed this morning and wondered how a volcanic stone could have appeared on the bench. Ahhhh it was from the dish of cacti on the window sill but it can’t jump by itself. Further checking reveals half a tomato has been eaten and evidence of mouse poop. Grrrrrrrrr. Then horror of horrors I discover that my precious special pepper seeds I was drying in jar lids on the sill are ALL GONE ! Noooooooooooooo ! 😯
Not my seeds. 👿 😡 😥 I hope that the furry wee grey menace is having regrets about eating those seeds and that they are hot hot hot on the way through it’s system. I managed to buy some more peppers to save seeds from but the very special ones I grew are a goner. Tonight there will be traps set where HRH can’t get her paws. One of the downsides of Autumn is mice sneaking inside.
He he he 😈 😈 I just found half a dozen tiny wee chilis a client gave Mr MS. Now we’re not chili eaters but I might put out the seeds from these possibly birdseye chili and see what happens tonight. 😈

I love Simons and both those items. By the way, they have several nice skirts that aren’t minis. I still haven’t found my dream “vintage” type denim skirt though.

Yes, they have a design centre in Qc City, and several exclusives from elsewhere.

I presume that the mat is easy to clean.

At one point in the 19th century, Simons was mum and dad. It is still a family business, though obviously much larger.

Lagatta, I could have a wonderful time in that store. Lots of lovely fruits and veges and interesting produce in jars and bottles.
I was in a store this morning that is full of wonderful bottles, jars, cans, and packets of foods that are not seen on supermarket shelves from all around the world. Things like smoked balsamic jelly, waterchestnuts in cans, exotic vinegars and sauces, cheeses, rubs for meats and all sorts of gourmet produce.
Speaking of mats, I have a great mat at my front door, it has a heavy rubber base but sadly the dirt is almost impossible to knock or shake out of it. It needs to be a heavy mat as the wind blows a lighter mat away. Then I solved the cleaning problem, put the mat in the boot(trunk) of the car and use the petrol station car cleaning vacuum. Perfectly clean mat and I am happy.

Guess that at one point efurry store was of the “Mom and Pop” variety.

Mat says wipe clean with damp cloth. But it’s poly/cotton and I’ve tossed similar into the washing machine. Not the dryer though. Latex back might fray but there is a trick that N taught me where you light a match and “seal” the rubber with the flame. Plse don’t try this at home, unless someone shows you how. In any case the mat is for decor, boots/shoes will not be placed on it.

Guess I’ll “have” to check out those skirts!

MS, the chair pads are indeed as you thought. They are called “Birch Print Chair Pads” and are extremely realistic. But way cushier than sitting on a slice of wood. Great idea as to how you cleaned your mat!

Looks like some businesses here are req’d to be closed this Sunday. Not sure about Fri/Mon. And some peeps have hol on Friday, some on Monday, some get both days off. My gym is closed Sat/Sun for Passover but Mon is reg schedule. Knitting Circle store is closed on Sunday and is never open on Mondays. The Circle is not on this Friday which is just as good as I wasn’t planning to attend this wk. But pharmacies are open all the time and many of them have a good selection of foodstuffs.

    Hi Efurrybody,

I just got on the site. Love the weed…cafe! 😛 Ah, Justin what’s taking so long, dude.

Shopping is not my thang but I can see KJ loving every minute of it. Somebody has to keep the stores in business. Tree rings? Not seeing it. Sorry about your seeds but they’re doing a job on that damn pest.

Good Friday isn’t a day off for most people. Usually, people who participate in church rituals take the day off.

Mom and Pop stores are neat and if I have patience there are lots of chachkies to be had. But the best are mom and pop trattorias in Italy. This is true about Scotland and other countries but Italy has purrfected them.

It’s been raining all day and we’re supposed to get some snow overnight. After running around and panicking for days, I found the place!

    Have a happy~

Now, Miss Moppet is mad at me. I didn’t tell Dorry how much MM likes his new hot pink feather toy. She’d love to come play with him – wink, wink, nudge, nudge

PG, woohoo on finding your place. Lots of grass for Miss Gaea to play on and a great sunny deck with shade for you to relax on while she plays. You must be so relieved to have it all sorted. I hope it is a warm place in Winter, looks perfect for Summer.
Good Friday shops are all shut except for petrol stations and small convenience stores can open and add cafes and restaurants and souvenir stores and hairdressers can open over the weekend but not Easter Sunday. Shops in a couple of main tourist areas are unrestricted. People didn’t like the restrictions and began opening their shops anyway despite hefty fines, especially garden centers as most Kiwis love to hit their gardens during the weekend and what the shops sold over the weekend amply covered any fine they might get. Now most cities and towns are allowed to remain open the entire Easter break other than Good Friday.
I got all my vege plants in the gardeb this afternoon and this evening it has rained so they will now be well watered in with rainwater, mush better than the tap water I used. Now ‘grow dammit, grow’.

Good morning – I wonder if someone took weed day literally and forgot to unlock the TDK cafe yesterday…
Jersey’s new Governor wants to legalize it. Then we can have Mom & Pop dispensaries!
Working all day today, then trekking across the dam to neighbor’s place (it’s getting easier), then get ready for work tomorrow.
    Have a great day all!

I remember when everything was closed here on Good Friday but that is no longer the case. Yes, that little shop is very handy and was a lifesaver when it was so terribly cold here some days that I didn’t feel like walking the ten minutes to Jean-Talon market – which was never a mom & pop, but a place where farmers drove their trucks (imagine the old trucks in the 1930s) to sell their produce. The buildings were actually an employment-creating project during the great Depression. As well as the Italian community (and of course French-speakers as well as some Irish) there is a longstanding Lebanese and Syrian community in this area; there are two Orthodox churches very close by. (Muslim Levantines arrived much later). The Mediterraneans, Italians and Levantines, brought vegetables other people didn’t eat back then and much improved the diet.

But yesterday I went to a nearby Vietnamese grocery and picked up gai choy, which is a kind of mustard green (the mustard flavour is mild and pleasant), some watercress and of course green onions and bean sprouts. Only the bean sprouts are local this time of year, unless the watercress is grown in greenhouses.

It is supposed to be legalised by this summer here, but it won’t be small private shops. Government monopolies as is the case for all hard liquor here and most wines. Wine and beer are also sold in supermarkets and at corner shops called “dépanneurs”, often shortened to “dep”, especially but not only by English-speakers. A dépanneur is something that helps you out (such as a vehicle that boosts cars or tows them if need be).

This will also make life much easier for people who use cannabis derivatives for medical purposes. I have a friend who (sadly) has cancer, but seems to be recovering – knock wood – and he takes a cannaboid for pain, and interestingly, it doesn’t provide a buzz. Not that he hates a buzz, but is more likely to rely on the old standards of a shot of espresso or a glass of wine in the evening. He is a researcher and retired professor and needs a clear head to work (as do I). I’ll be checking that substance out (for arthritis) as it seems to have fewer side-effects than other analgesics.

It is about 7:30 here, I’m having an espresso, and Livia is doing her first turn in the back garden, exploring her tiny “territory”.

WOW, didn’t have time to read all the comments, and so early on a Thursday morning too! I couldn’t access the site all day yesterday, but thought maybe it was just me.

I love the pics today, they are just adorable….the kit with the purse..oh my!

PG, congrats on the new place! That is a very nice looking abode with amenities!! Let me know your address please–send me an email!

MS, had to laugh at you trying to sabotage the little buggar with hot pepper seeds. I used to fix the traps so that they had a ‘hair trigger’–I know it sounds sadistic, but it’s actually more humane. Got tired of them stealing the bait and making off with it. Peanut butter works best, as they have to spend some time trying to lick it all up and then WHAM!! 😆
    Sorry–(sort of!)

Well JJ, it was not me who took weed day literally as weed is NOT LEGAL here as yet. 😥 😉

Getting things done on schedule and now schedule indicates coffee!!!!!

So now that my condo rental has been “surveyed” de facto landlord emailed to advise us that a photographer will be coming to take pics. Not for “Architectural Digest”. I did the decent thing and advised him that for the next week my place is not really picture purrfect, counters covered up bins/bags in entry.

Purrhaps Dorry should pose – but that might scare potential buyers away! Hehehe!

So hoping that the rental that I have my eye on becomes a pawsibility. And/or that someone is so desperate to buy this place that he breaks the lease. And as recompense pays $$$ for my move etc. Anyway it’s a wait and see situation. And a non-desperate one at that. As I keep telling myself.

There are also housing associations in your borough – you are sort of in the middle between the N part and the C part. And they are not only for the poor – I worked at a housing association for a while and had a broad swath of people who were simply not being treated well. The most poignant perhaps was a young woman from the Lower St-Lawrence (Bas St-Laurent) who had moved here to study in her field and realized that it was a crackhouse and the landlord was fine with that. Eventually somone was murdered there. I helped the nice young lady get out of the lease, and eventually urged that action was taken against all the criminals (gangster tenants but also the sleazy landlord). They were small apartments, unsuitable for families, but it became housing for seniors. It is very close to a métro station and the neighbourhood is much nicer now.

Bwa, ha, ha – Miss Gaea met her nemesis. I was gettiing ready to put the trash out as was the neighbor. Next I hear a meowrrrrr! hiss! The neighbors’ Husky puppy can running over from his yard into ours and Miss Gaea was up a tree.

The thing is Toby (I thought he was a she) didn’t even go after her. My yard has more room to run and he was having a blast. We, eventually, got him back home and Miss Gaea came down. She’s been needing extra lovings.

    I’m not really laughing
