While International Women’s Day is sponsored worldwide by the United Nations, the UN did not originate this special celebration. It’s roots go back to the late 1800’s and early 1900s, growing from women’s socialist movements and early women’s trade union groups. The 2018 Campaign theme is “Press for Progress.” But all seriousness aside …

Livia wishes a Happy International Women’s day to women, female cats, and remembers that “witch hunts” against women and cats – especially black cats actually were a thing, and not a pleasant one…

Isn’t Grumpy Cat actually a girl?

Yes, I think Grumpy Cat is a girl, and she’s not actually grumpy either, just looks that way. I think she’s sweet, but she’s made her owner a pile of money…I’m sure!

YAY for International Women’s Day! And it’s true, behind every successful woman, there’s a cat who helped her along the way. 😉

Good morning – Leela and I high-pawed for International Women’s Day!

The Mighty Quinn dumped about 26″ here. I went out last night and partially dug out my truck. Also cleared a couple of shelters, and shuffled paths to two others. Today hubby forged a few more paths and cleared the driveway.

I’m going to venture to the mailbox, then get ready to go to work. Have a great day all!

Well PG, I know where you’re coming from as just found out that landlord lans to sell the condo that I am renting and have been for 14 yrs. 🙁

Now my lease goes until end of Dec. so there’s nothing that I can do right now, which only adds to my general stress. Feel like putting my fist through the wall!

I could buy could buy condo but my investment guy advises that I am better off renting and this bldg has srs probs. Now before I have to go out i am ging t cry/scream it out. Tks for letting me get this off my chest.

High paw to all TDKers on International Woman’s Day – kits and hoomins!

I had my teefs cleaned this morning and they feel so good!

Now, I’m watching “Straight Outta Compton”. Did you know the William sisters grew up in Compton? Now you do.

Thank goodness you survived the latest storm, JJ. I hope all the gang is OK too. We’re praying for any moisture. I had to water yesterday afternoon.

    That does suck, KJ.

    Have a happy~

That !”/$%?&!!!, kj. When you mentioned your condo, I thought you owned it, but no, don’t buy it if there are major structural problems. That is probably why the landlord is selling it.

Here are three murals dedicated to women and girls, in the neighbourhood just south of mine: https://montrealserai.com/article/mile-end-murals/ I know the woman who did the story, a colleague, and also knew Léa Roback in her later life.

That sucks, KJ. Sending good vibes for an outcome that’s in your favor.

Opted not to go to work today. My street was not plowed till a few hours ago and it’s a mess from those vehicles that got stuck last night. Glad I did, for it’s another day I can spend with the kits! With the wood burner going, I can leave the back door open so I can always see who’s out there and if they want to come in. Leela, of course, is by the fire. She aims her face at the fire and closes her eyes, as if she’s meditating. Just looking at her is relaxing!

PG, love the article on the woman having the cat! Seriously cute idea and the h–l with peeps who don’t understand!

Lagatta, love the murals you posted! WOW!

JK, just gotta say my ‘Nasty Woman’ hat is hanging close by on the hat rack by the door–gotta love those warm pink pussy fleece hats!! 😆

KJ, I am so sorry you are having to deal with this crap. You too PG. Deep breaths: all will be well.

JJ, 26 inches? Good grief, glad you didn’t go to work and instead watched Leela meditating!

Good afternoon all, wet overnight here but now a sunny day. We’re making the most of the sun because by Monday we most like will be on our third tropical cyclone in just over a month.
Yes Grumpy Cat is a female and she has made her owner a pile of $$$$.
JK, love that coffee mug saying, that has been one of ArizonaDeb’s favourite sayings.
JJ, I had read that Quinn may dump up to 60 inches so it’s good that didn’t happen at your place. I hope the drive to work was uneventful.
KJ, ohh darn on the landlords plans. It’s never easy when that happens and you looking for a new place(if it comes to that) is a royal pain in the butt. Please don’t hurt your hand challenging the wall to a fight. Punch the bed or some cushions instead.
Lagatta, strong mural of Nina Simone, fierce. It is great to see these murals there for all to see and maybe influence lives and thinkings of young girls.
PG, oh my goodness, I am almost weeping with laughter at that link. Hilarious. Some warning would have been good. That couple certainly have a sense of humour. 😆 😆 😆
You were at the dentist today too. I had to have a broken tooth patched until an appointment next month.
JJ, so your drive to work was short and only mildly eventful. Is it not cold with the back door open even with the fire going? So glad that most of the kits feel reasonable comfortable about coming inside for food and warmth for a bit then back outside.
Last night we tried something different to feed to Shadz. Possum. Gosh that sounds so redneck and I swear I heard PM gasp. We found when we were farming that possums fatten dogs very quickly and HRH Shadz certainly needs some meat on her tiny frame to help her get through the coming Winter. Possums here are a real pest animal, they cause serious damage to native trees with their feeding habits and the fewer possums the better, also they were introduced here. Now as far as possums go in PM’s country just next door to us, they are protected. Mr MS’s Australian cousins were shocked when visiting and learning that it was legal here to eradicate possums from your property. Anyhoo, Mr MS’s brothers dog caught a possum yesterday and agreed to share it with HRH. She was hesitant to try it at first but with her Daddy hand feeding her she soon has eaten good amount. This morning she came in bright eyed and bushy tailed so she will get more. If this helps build her up for Winter then I will be pleased.

MS, I’m so glad Shadz enjoyed the possum! People here generally don’t like their northern counterparts, but they eat ticks, so I’m good with any that wander into my yard.
We keep the inner door open, leaving the glass outer door closed so it doesn’t get cold unless temps are super low.

KJ, so sorry to read that you may be uprooted. Investment people sometimes have strange ideas about renting vs buying, so find out her/his reasons. If the advice is just not to buy your particular condo, that might be wise if the building has probs and therefore risks being a money sink. If the advice is against buying in general, think carefully. If you buy, you have both equity and security of tenure, and unless housing prices are as ludicrous in your part of the world as they are in Melbourne the value of your asset (and likewise the amount you’d be paying in rent) will only increase in the long term.

MS, not shocked at all about you feeding Shadz possum. I would want it to have a humane death, but I know they are a very serious introduced pest in NZ. OZ has more than its share of serious introduced pests, too, including feral cats.

Thanks for support and input TDK friends!

There are good/logical reasons not to consider buying this particular condo. In addition to purchase there is welcome tax, taxes and condo fees along with condo peeps to deal with (this from a rental agent I chatted with.) Which would mean factoring in several hundred bucks xtra/month.

Plus I have it on the “QT” from admin person that place structurally is due for major costly work.

For many reasons renting is better plan.

Maybe I don’t get it but I figure that potential buyers would want to check out bldg structure and work req’d before buying. I put up with issues in my place as I didn’t plan a move, ie window doesn’t open and it’s a structural issue, pieces of wood floor held in place with glue, kitchen drawers are not uniform, most of the top plugs in outlet have never been functional. Landlord knows all of this. And if anyone comes to check out place they should be made aware. I know that when I have moved I checked everything,ie taps, toilet flusher, ease of opening cupboard drawers. I just don’t know.

Have to wait and see, not easy. Some nice rentals listed, somewhat more expensive, but my rent increases yearly and for no improvements. Also want to relatively stay in same area.

When I get thinking more clearly I’m quite good at getting things organized and there is time. I would for sure donate some furniture and if I think it would help relieve stress could hire movers who would pack up everything super-neatly and unpack while I supervised. But this is all in the future. Just have to get a better grip on what has or hasn’t happened. According to law as I understand it I get util Dec. 31/18 or at very least 6 mos notice. or if landlord wished for other arrangements I would have him pay moving costs or some other monetary compensation.

Now if I were 70 yrs old they would have to let me stay. That’s the law here. But thankfully I still have (some) youth on my side!

Anyway told that if I end up looking for place in early Fall I’ll be in better position as places might be available that were not taken in reg moving time, July. In a sense earlier would be a bit better as a place that I called had a nice rental in brand new bldg, but at lower rent than what will be available later on (higher floor). Amenities plus xtra small room which I would turn into wardrobe room – a long-tme dream.

Also would def offload some furniture. Not that my place is at all crammed with stuff, just because. Rschd some charity orgs that do p/u for free.

Landlord said that he will keep me posted “every step of that”. This well may be but I will be calling him in a few wks, even though clock does not start ticking until I get formal notice. I really dislike knowing for sure one way or the other, but there’s really nothing for it. “Major sigh*

    Very nice mural Lagatta!

Woman in my Knitting Circle is an artist and did an embroidery project for a competition or event (I think) which included embroidered rendering of Ms. Roback.
