((Lainey)) Happens to all of us. I ‘fell off’ the exercise wagon for 2 months. Then I saw pictures of me from Hawai’i…. YIKES ! Those became my “before” pictures with the new trainer. We are all here to help each other.

You can make your own Greek yogurt by getting a gallon of milk, boiling it on a low heat and then baking it for a long time also at a low heat.

Or, since I’m not very domestic, I could hop in the car, drive 2 minutes to Publix, grab Greek yogurt, drive home. Yogurt in less than 10 minutes – instant gratification! But thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

I think they’re cute, 2p – I like the pockets. They look very like my tennis ones, but they don’t come with pockets.

So true GD, that is how I do it! Before Greek yogurt became all the rage, I was actually making it on my own at home. Now that it is made commercially, I am one happy camper!

I made a curried chicken salad this week that used Greek yogurt instead of mayo, it was good but a bit thick. I may have to fiddle with the ingredients a bit, but it was good.

I read somewhere that an exercise bike is better for your back and legs than a tread mill. Friends, what are your thoughts on that?

I think that’s true, JJB. on a bike you don’t have your full weight bearing down on back, hips, knees, ankles etc. There’s a lot of pounding when running (even walking) on a treadmill which isn’t the case on a bike.

I was thinking about getting an exercise bike. I wonder if I would use it?

Yes JJB. Good idea. I love my exercise bike a lot.

JJB – only you know the answer to that question. So the bigger question is…. what are you committed to doing? If it’s not working out and trying to be healthier then the bike is most likely not a good investment. I’ve been a sports addict for years…. running, gym, biking…… and I know that it is all a matter of how determined are you. No one can change your mind set and so it is all up to you.

I love my exercycle. I bought it second-hand from a couple down the street who were moving — it’s a Schwinn. It’s a recumbent, as I thought it would be better for my back, which doesn’t like hunching over things. (Though, as GD said once, a recumbent does make your knees click.) I go for long walks in the summer but in winter the weather’s too bad, so I love the way I can just jump on this.

Yes WWM you are right. I am the only one who can ans. that question. I think I will stick to the walking right now. If I can manage that, then I will think about a bike. I think thats a big part of my feeling so sluggish etc. I wasn’t getting any exercise. I have been walking and feel somewhat better.

Jcat I was think it would be a good idea to have one for the winter.

MC I should look around for a used one. Great idea!

JJB, one thing you can always find if you look is (hardly used) second-hand exercise equipment from people who had good intentions ๐Ÿ˜‰

Craigslist is a good place to look also.

I was so stressed out last night, I resorted to ice cream and chocolate! I had the best intentions – brought healthy choice 90 calorie ice cream bar to dog-sitting house. However, it was melted by the time I got there, so I ate the “real stuff” they had in the fridge instead. Not a lot of it, which in my tired head justified the chocolate. Bad GD!

Doing well today so far. Small bowl of Grape Nuts cereal with skim milk for breakfast, followed by 62 minutes of biking (19 miles) and now crackers with hummus, but only a small portion. I go nuts on the bike and really feel it afterwards. Starting my day with exercise gets me motivated to be healthy for the day. I’m planning on having a salmon pattie with some black bean and corn salsa later and then a Greek yogurt at the gym. Hopefully my melted ice cream bar will have solidified by tonight so I can have that when I’m winding down tonight.

Not bad, GD!!! Ice cream is dairy, which we all know is a very important part of the food pyramid. And chocolate is good for us emotionally, so in reality, you ate health food.

Mr. WWM and I went for a ride this morning and he had his first ever road crash. Usually that’s my trick but you know, he has to try and one-up me on absolutely everything ๐Ÿ˜‰ Actually, it wasn’t really his fault. We came to an intersection and I was in the lead. There was a man walking on the sidewalk but he was aways from me. And there was water in the road So I looked left and it was clear, although there was a truck quite some distance away in our lane. We were turning to the right. So I told Mr. WWM “clear” and I made the turn. Well, that man steps off the curb right in front of Mr. WWM and he now has to go straight through the water and make the turn a bit sharper than I did. His wheels just went out from under him from getting wet and he crashed. The man in the pickup truck is there by this time and he stopped to see if Mr. WWM was okay. I heard the crash, and being the one that’s usually involved, I know that sound very well. I looked in my rearview mirror and Mr. WWM is in the street. I’ll tell you what – it scared the stuffing out of me! I would much rather fall than see him down. He’s basically okay but has a pretty good piece of road rash on his right upper leg, a bit on his elbow and a scrape on his ankle. Of course what he is worried about? His new bike. But as far as we can see, it’s okay. It did scrape the pedal pretty good but that’s nothing. He has never crashed before but now, should I do it again, he’ll have a better understanding of how much it hurts! And I told him that having experienced that, can he imagine how bad Lance Armstrong must have hurt when he crashed in the Tour going 60 km and skidded on his back for about 200 yards. Ouch! We cut our ride a bit short, came home and got some ointment on his boo-boo’s. Poor baby!

WWM – sorry about Mr WWM’s spill ! Glad he is essentially OK.

Back on schedule starting today… missed 2 sessions with trainer, and did NOTHING for a week. Stupid summer colds. Feeling much better and ready for a good, hard work out.

Tomorrow is a big day, we reach the end of my first six weeks of personal training. It is weigh and measure day. I am a little nervous, not sure what to expect. I actually think I have gained weight. Sigh…
