    Good morning, everyone.

Today I am going to begin the new Atkins program for a few months (maybe forever but we’ll see). I weighed in at 240 this morning and very miserable. The lowest I’ve been in years is 205 so this feels like 100 pounds!

I am on http://www.fatsecret.com and http://www.atkins.com as LaineyLives. If any of you are on there please say hi! I will be checking in here, too, as I need the support and encouragement of my family of choice!

Today I am going to concentrate on eating properly and doing food prep for the week. Right now I’m going to get back in bed as I’m under the weather, but hopefully will be feeling better soon.

Can I join you, Lainey? I weighed in at 135 this morning, which is high for me, and I feel fat. On the upside, I just got back from stocking up on salad fixings for the week. I just wish it wasn’t so hot that the thought of physical activity makes me woozy. I did sign up for a lane at the pool tomorrow morning.

You’ve all got my full support! *waves pink pom-poms – not really my style but it’s all I know about cheerleaders!*

I actually freeze up and am unable to eat when I’m stressed. You might think that’s a good thing, but it isn’t – trust me. First of all, if the stressy stretch is long enough, I get weak and queasy. Crackers or some cheese help bring me back. The other downfall is that when I’m ok again I will eat unhealthy stuff. Thankfully, Leela, hubby and I survived the home reno and I’ve gained back what I lost during that fiasco. I’ve got love handles that someone my weight shouldn’t have – an obvious effect of unhealthy eating habits and lack of those horrid ab exercises.

There are no more instant potatoes in the house, the bag of cheesy-poofs is almost gone, and I’m limiting myself to one Dove chocolate a day.

Everyone is welcome to join along! It’s not just about the physical appearance and weight, it’s how we feel about ourselves inside and even more importantly our overall health. As I’m learning as I get older (I mean, I AM halfway to 90!) good health is really money in the bank. Nothing can replace it and I want to be healthy and able to take care of myself for as long as I possible can.

So Kilroy, MC, and Joan, welcome and I know we can get and be healthy together.

I won’t be exercising for quite some time (several days at least) as I’ve been on penicillin for that tooth infection and, well, I know you ladies knows what happens sometimes…. I’m in baaaad shape. I’m going to stay up for a bit now and see if I can get some laundry started and do a little bit of cooking. Certainly not getting everything done that I wanted to, but well, it will all still be here.

My main goals are to stay away from junk and eat slowly start exercising. The day will come again that I can have some if I want but right now I am choosing to eat nothing but whole, natural foods into my body. I”m not really happy to be doing Atkins, but I had to choose something so I’m gonna give it a real chance and see what happens for awhile.

Remember that a lot of whole, natural foods are good for you, most of the time it’s the company that it keeps that is the problem!

Here’s to us! Who else wants to join in? (you don’t have to put your weight down, I do as it keeps me accountable and HONEST) do whatever is comfortable for YOU!

Yay Ladies! I have the exercise in place, its the eating that kills me. We have so many good places to eat its so easy to turn in and pick something up. I know I need to be stronger than that urge.

I’m in. I’ve been trying to get back on South Beach since the winter, but my with my

husband and stepson here, there was just too much temptation. Joe is leaving for

Louisiana next week, and Jamie has been staying with his brother, so this is it! After my surgery last summer and all the time I spent convalescing I have more than a few extra pounds to lose!

Well I need to join in too Lainey. I have started doing a little walking, and have not had ice cream (don’t tell I did have a CMP at the NS) in 4 or 5 days. Thats a record for me. I usually eat it everyday. I have to go for blood work soon. So I am trying to lay off the ice cream.

I was always “chubby” but now I weight the most ever.

So I am joining, but haven’t mapped out yet what I will do. Cut down for sure.

Plus Lainey I must tell you. You do not look 1/2 way to 90!!!!! And I weigh about 6 lbs less than you. And you certainly do not look that weight.

I think I look horrible and have to do something about it.

Count me in, now that I can walk and move without pain, I need to get the weight OFF!!!! I plan to use a modified WW (no meetings or dues, but keeping track of intake with a diary)…. I am past the half century mark, so it is important for all sorts of health reasons…

I’m in! I am at 142, which is really high for me. It really isn’t about the weight though, I feel blah all the time. I hate feeling tired and lazy. Plus, my skin freaks out when I’m not on a good regimen of excercise and healthy foods. It is way to easy to just grab some dinner on the way home and then lounge around until bed. So I want to start eating better and exercising.

Me too. I’m quite discouraged. I’m a little heavier than Lainey right now and I’m 5’4″. I lost a bunch of weight a number of years ago, and as soon as I started at the gym, the weight went up. And up. And up. No matter how hard I worked at the gym, and how careful I tried to be with food, the scale just would not stop going up. I know muscle is heavier than fat… but it should have evened out somewhere during that four years of faithfully getting up at 4:30 am to be at the gym when it opened at 5:30.. I got so doggone hungry after my workouts and couldn’t find anything that seemed to satisfy while being healthy. I was on a high-fiber diet too, watching the fat closely. I tried a hard boiled egg, yogurt, protein drinks (Atkins or Medifast shakes), and none were satisfying. One McDonald’s $1 sausage breakfast burrito though, was satisfying but really not on any diet plan…

Now I have an active bout of colitis and I can’t do a high fiber diet at all. I was sick for six months last year doing 30-40 grams of fiber a day.. it had just the opposite effect that it has on most people. I had loose stools! When I checked with my gastroenterologist and had a colonoscopy…he said “STOP eating fiber!” Acck! It was upsetting my colon. And this was without those Fiber One Fart Bars(tm).

I’m thinking about trying Atkins again, it’s similar in idea to the Medi-Fast I did to do rapid weight loss. But I love fruit in the summertime! My cholesterol is high, but it just -looks- high.. the bad cholesterol is low, I have high levels of good cholesterol and that puts the total number in the ‘high’ category, I have to explain to the nutritionists that the total number is not showing a cholesterol problem.

The only problem I have with diets like Atkins is that yes, you lose weight quickly, but it seems the weight goes right back on when you start back on regular foods. I tried doing protein shakes for two meals a day, but I was ravenous all the time. I dunno, maybe I should just cut out the junk and stick to lots of exercise.

I think the secret with protein shakes is that the rest of your caloric intake for the day needs to be quite restricted or you -do- feel hungry.

My dad, bless his heart…will have a Slim-Fast and a donut for breakfast (lol).

I just had a thought; I have a total weakness for sweets, pastries specifically, but I think sometimes I eat them out of habit rather than really wanting them. From now on I’m going to replace sweet with spicy (my other favorite taste). I figure a couple of whole wheat crackers and some salsa has to be healthier than a zillion-calorie muffin, right?
