anther holiday caroling/singing memory i have is of this song –

i still sang with my mother’s church choir for awhile after being a semi-closet sikh. i felt happy to be sikh, but wasn’t ready to let her extremely religious church mates know this, so i kept it to myself and stuck with the choir for awhile just because i enjoyed singing until i forget what happened and we both gave up. i think my mum couldn’t make the stairs up to the loft anymore. anyhoo, the verssion in this video doesn’t quite do the exact justice our choir did, but it was i think my favourite song to sing in the choir. the way we sang it, it was sweetly haunting, yet perfectly got the message across. it was extra haunting when we sang itat midnight mass (which i was present for a few). i used to enjoy midnight mass, imply because we dressed up, sang at a seemingly odd hour (according to my body clock which did not sing in public at midnight any other time), and the church was hauntingly beautiful itself. the lights were turned out and everyone held candles. im happy that i am who i am now, but i do admit i’m happy that i got to have these memories in my life as well.

btw also chipping in with my prayers for little tucker cotton!

so now that i can join the drinks crowd, i got me some angry orchard hard cider as a libation option for new years eve (though i must be careful as i will probably work new year’s even and new year’s day. i have to ask my patient what she wants to do.)

one reason besides the strictness that in this case i have decided to relax on over the summer as i discovered how therapeutic it can be in moderation, is the fact that lot of booze just tatses nasty to me. beer, for instance i just can’t do. tried a few, but unless it’s mixed in stuff n that bitter taste is hidden, nope can’t do. anyway, this stuff is sweet with a nice body to it. it doesn’t really even taste so much like an alcoholic drink –

    angry

and of course my traditional, non alc accompanyment –

    joes

we didnt have trader joes near me in pa, so i stick to the classic martinelli’s. i decided to stray from martinellis for the simple fact that i can find martinellis everywhere and have it any time of year now, and because they do not make blueberry flavour. the first year i came to ny, i was prepping for the holidays when i lost my first place. i was very depressed but decided to pick myself up by trying to celebrate the holidays somehow. i managed to scrape together enough for the blueberry sparkling stuff, a new years eve hat and glasses. i was at my friends apartment at the time (where i was staying till i got myself back on my feet), and had tried to make it down to times square. sadly, i had to pee, and had to retreat back to her place. so each time i get this stuff it’s a testament to how i’ve managed to keep myself going another year despite whatever i faced. this year hasn’t been 100% rosy, but work wise it’s better than last year was. i was able to afford a spare bottle this time, for whatever – be it christmas beforehand, or an extra enjoyment on new years itself…or soemthing else even….

    drink

just to let u all know this is NOT my pic. i have black hair and its longer, but i found this pic when i was hunting for the sparkling cider one, and had to laugh. this is totally me on new year’s eve, except i dont bother pouring any into a separate glass. last year, catface was upstairs with his buddies watching some guy stuff, and came down just in time for the countdown. when midnight struck, i opened my bottle (i think it was pomegranate last year as they ran out of blueberry before i got to it), and the damn thing went all over. i was bathed in the the stuff. he watched the whole thing and laughed so hard. he’s counting on a repeat of it. the year before i had gotten gold leggings when i went to atlantic city with my late neighbour and wore those. we’ll see what antics i come up with this year.

Before I left for work tonight, the big grey kitty that sleeps in my backyard was sitting at the back door looking in on the Crew and Kitty was sitting there looking back.

The new series the Librarians is showing on tv across the room right now, so far it’s a decent show πŸ™‚

Jan, maybe HRH was sleeping inside because she knows that Airy is coming home today πŸ™‚ Tell your Mum Happy Birthday from me and the crew please.

Evening Deb, I’m chuckling at the image of Kitty and the grey cat staring at each other.
I think you are spot on as far as HRH, she has perked up a lot since Airy arrived home and while we were outside she wanted up to chase her around the terrace and she and Daddy played ‘lets/not lacerate’ Dad’s fingers. She won that game while dad had several small punctures to show for his silly actions. She is stalking around the house at the moment but I am sure she will follow me upstairs to bed and head straight for Airy’s/her room.
Nighty night all, catch you on the flip side.

lOL OH yeah it sounds like she was just waiting for her turn to play tonight. Sleep well, have sweet dreams, and scritches for HRH in the morning. It’s almost time for the family to get there and to begin your celebrations!

The grey kitty has done that a few times with looking in the window/door, couple of days ago he was going from window to windo and Red was running to see him πŸ™‚

The grey kitty interactions sound cute, Deb.

    MS, glad Shadz perked up!

Nirmal, sparkling blueberry juice sounds delicious.

That’s interesting about Hanukkah and the adults not exchanging gifts, KJ. Our Christmas tradition is similar, just because hubby and I have interests that make it easier just to take Christmas money and pick out something for ourselves. (A hard to find serving dish or kitchen utensil is my ideal…or clothes). We try to have a little something under the tree for each other though so the kids don’t think it’s ALL about them. :).

Leo is meowing for breakfast. I make them wait til they hear my alarm though…just a few more minutes.

    Morning ECB πŸ™‚

The Crew all run to their appointed spots for their meals usually when I get home and before I come to work, it’s funny seeing them do it.

Happy Birthday wishes to your Mom from me and Dorry too, MS! πŸ™‚
    Morning Deb,
Must be nice weather in your n’hood so to speak. ‘Cause several peeps have headed down to AZ (and others to FL) for the next 4 months or so, as back around March. We call them “snowbirds” as they fly away and “miss” what I am going out into in a bit as ‘way below freezing wind chill factor. I feel sorry for those missing out, truly (not LOL). Well must get ready now, need just that bit of xtra time for layering. Have a good am and L8R!

KJ, its 41F/5C right now @ 05:50 a.m. and believe it will get to about mid 60’s today πŸ™‚ Oh I know we get the ‘snowbirds’ every year, wish they drove better but oh well.

Well not baking hot in your n’hood as yet, but still sounds tempting preferable to minus “something” LOL. Would apologize for at least our drivers from my province as Quebec, but I don’t drive, yet have seen what could be taken for drag racing in my n’hood and some seem to thing that red lights are there for decor. And peeps here tend to take pride in flouting driving rules. Have even seen peeps go through stop lights when police are parked on corner! And do nothing. Except when I am jaywalking with no cars in sight. Another city “hobby”. Yes, I know it’s against the law – 3 tickets later.

Good morning from a cloudy NJ on this Winter Solstice Sunday.
My kitties don’t know about breakfast, so no reason to bug me. As long as there is water and crunchies and a satisfactory litterbox, all is well.
Comet sang early this morning – some new tunes he and Dorry practiced. I actually don’t mind his singing, he has a great voice.
Sparkling blueberry juice sounds good πŸ™‚
Happy Birthday to your mum, MS.
KJ, stay safe as you do what you gotta do out there. Geez, tickets for jaywalking but cars blow red lights? Crazy. Around here stop signs are merely suggestions. At a stop sign if a car is coming you should pull out and cut them off. They will thank you later when they don’t get a speeding ticket.
Ms. Moneypenny looks great! Hardly the same cat we saw pics of not too long ago.
AV, you must be getting so excited! Please leave the wormhole door open so we can all take in the aroma of your cookies!

Good morning everyone! I am making myself be lazy today….well, not actually lazy but doing things on MY schedule instead of everyone elses. Going to shop for holiday food stuff and then come back and wrap some more. I LOVE getting Pandora on my computer and listening to Christmas songs as I wrap. Relaxing and fun and puts me in a good mood…
Interesting listening to you talk about your customs in NY and your upbringing. In your face religious people bother me….a LOT, so strange to me and foreign to my personality. I like kind, gentle, loving people of any religion, or no religion, and totally shut down when there is a car load of zealots who pull in my driveway hell bent on conversion, or phone calls, or whatever. But that’s me and I am good with it and don’t try to convince people I’m right or they are wrong. To each his own, but our human history shows that’s not how most people in power tended to think. Some of my favorite memories too are singing in choirs at school and our special programs this time of year and also at church at late mass on Christmas Eve. One year after the service, I remember stepping out of the church onto the steps, it was so quiet you couldn’t hear anything, no cars. There was a gentle snowfall, no wind, it was just magical and very powerful. I will never forget it.
Buttons, Ms. MP looks beautiful and her eye, well it looks great too! She looks so relaxed and fluffy.
MS, it made me teary thing of HRH missing Airy and being to glad that she’s home…awwww.

    Hi anyone?
BB, guess what the postman brought? Yes, your awesome card! Tks and PM’d you!
KZ, is this synchronistic or what? I was on our metro (subway) today and this (somewhat strange-looking) woman asks me if I speak English (as not a given here). So I say “Yes” thinking the perhaps she wanted directions. So didn’t she try to foist some sort of religious leaflet on me. Basically stopped her in her tracks with a firm “No” sorta Grumpy Cat style yet polite at same time. *Sheesh*
Buttons, Ms Moneypenny is still ever the beauty that she always was and always will be. Her floofiness and colouring are gorgeous. Dorry is in love (all over again!) LOL
So went to dept store to return 6 prs of tights (2 online orders gone wrong). Only wanted 3 in first place. Long story short, they had 1 pr in correct shade and reluctantly agreed to call in 2 more prs from another branch and mail them to me. But get this – they actually wanted me to pay $10 add’l shipping fee! Now it’s not the $10, it’s the principle. I should pay for their error? I think not! Rule #1 – Don’t mess with KJ. Rule #2 – Read Rule #1. Eventually manager agreed to waive shipping fee. And while waiting I was able to help a senior customer decipher the size chart on panty hose pkg as clerk could not speak a word of English, or figure out the chart (not the sharpest knife in the drawer.) So all in all got things done.

WOW KJ! I don’t like having to say “NO” (assertively but politely) to people, but I have this space around me and by acknowledging them, I let them in, but they broke it by their impertinent question sooooooo….. you have to take what’s coming. Personality wise, we may be twins…sometimes I wonder like how you handle the dept. store snafu…it’s just the principle of it and if they hadn’t waived the shipping fee, I would be done shopping there period. Probably because now in this day and age there are just too many options of good, quality customer service. I hope you finally get the tights you want!

Happy Sunday evening all! …. only one hour til Son gets here πŸ™‚ …. I can’t wait!!!

…. baked a gazillion cookies today, and have just put his favorite spagetti sauce on to simmer ….. I was just taking inventory of the Christmas gifts I bought and it looks like I’m all set, including stocking stuffers πŸ™‚ …. I started making my grocery list for Tues, and have my menus planned and set …. I’ve got one report to get out tomorrow, then I’m DONE until the New Year !!!

…. I took MIL shopping today, so she is set, I hope she remembers what we bought and where she put things …. we have been struggling with her memory for the past 6 mos. and it’s progressively getting worse ….. doctors say it’s not altzheimers or anything, just short term loss as you get up in your 80s …..

…. I have on my Christmas kitty earrings (which I start wearing Dec. 1 and continue the whole month) … it will make Son smile when he walks in the door, I’ve worn them for years ….. it will be a little sad, cause this is the first time he’s been home since Cuddles passed ….. Dau will be a basket case when she gets here ….. Cuddles was HER cat πŸ™

…. I’ll take a quick swipe from the fountain, to calm me down, as I tick the minutes away …..
