Here’s a canvas by my favourite artist Rene Magritte.. He was commissioned by an unknown writer writer at a time when Rene was just begining to make a name for himself ..

The painting was titles the cat in the hat 🙂

Can you guess who the up and coming verse writer was ?? 🙂

Yes Dr Seuss! But Dr Seuss reflected the painting he insisted he wanted the cat to wear the hat not to literally be in the hat.. Magritte hated criticism and refused to create another canvas calming Dr Seuss’s writing were too surreal 😆

It’s JK’s idea so she will be able to best answer your question MS. My impression (pun intended) was that it’s just a celebration of cats in art, like different time periods, styles, etc.

special feature/openings on first Weekend of month or ??/LOL!
This is a fave of mine: Woman-with-cat-kees-van-dongen-1908

My mom made a copy of this for her art class project years ago. I had it hanging for many years. Temp taken down ’til get a new frame.

Buttons, thanks for the share on Margritte vs Dr Seuss! Appreciate Margritte’s work. Also can see why scrappy cat in hat is model of
Seuss’s stories! 😉

It’s surreal! Joan Miró’s “Cat and Bird”. Used to think his first name was pronounced like yours Joan, was laughed at then corrected *whatever*.

Whistling softly as strolls into art gallery. In keeping with today’s Bike to work theme found this ?block print by:

Certainly admire detail/color. Took a print making class awhile ago! Takes a steady hand & patience & ability to
draw unless image is transferred on linoleum block!

Quietly views new Jan Steen acquisition thinking we need to get some donors to expand our purry collection!

We do indeed need more contributors JK – ere we are left with just a purr-manent collecion. 🙁 So I’m trying to keep thread up top on list. Realize not all are comfortable w/pic posting, but do hope more will try, I enjoy it, but can’t be just you and me!!!
