It’s supposed to be a rough night here, so I’m starting a night shift. It’s 21.45 now and if the weather forecasters are right I’m not going to get much sleep so:

Fires are lit and rugs, cushions comfy chairs and blankets are all arrayed in front. There is food and drink of the comfort variety, soup, crusty bread, bacon sarnies (of course), macaroni cheese, cakes, biscuits, chocolates … To drink hot chocolate, tea, coffee, wines and spirits and the kitty cocktail shakers are on duty to mix up anything special you might want. There is a big vat of hot spiced apple too – you can have it with amaretto liqueur or with amaretto syrup if you don’t want alcohol.

Pull up a cushion, grab a kitten, warm your toes and enjoy yourself.

Hi PM! *waving* I have half an hour left at that place but will get a virtual early start on my weekend with some red wine and a selection of tapas.

Garbo will bring it personally through the wormhole. She’s still very wary of strangers so she may just put it down near you and bolt. Sorry if she won’t stay for cuddles.

*Kilroy places a dish of Garbo’s food of choice within easy reach of the wormhole and retreats to a comfy chair* Thank you, Garbo.

KJ here at 6:08 pm EST. Finishing proofreading some work but then wouldn’t mind cosying up by the fire with a hot latte, some good company and good kitties (My Dorry, much as I love him to bits, cuddles up with me only on “his” terms).

Or maybe I should switch that beverage order to a Hot Rum Toddy. Dare I? Will this inconvenience the kitties? *thinking, but not too hard* 😉

Hi PM, hang in there with this storm and I hope your garden doesn’t have any damage after all the time and effort you have put into it lately. I’d love a fruit juice(still morning here) it’s a very sunny day but with strong winds again. We’re beginning to suffer the ‘wind crazies’ here and it’s interfering with my ability to get plants in the garden. You know how that feels.
    Waving to Kilroy and KJ.

Ah! I see that MS has arrived onsite. So do they do Guy Fawkes Day in NZ?

Hi MS and Kilroy. Real chill factor here. The Hot Rum Toddy it will be. “Thanks ever so much Garbo. You can’t stay for a bit? I totally understand.”

Yes we ‘do’ Guy Fawkes here but not quite like the Brits do. No guys or big bonfires because we are nearing Summer and things are already dry with fire bans in place quite often so it’s backyard fireworks or large public displays.
It’s hot dry and windy here today, it seems the wind is constant and persistent lately and driving us nuts. i think there’s a name for that condition. Even Shadz is having difficulty finding a wind free spot to curl up and sleep in.

Hot toddys and fruit juices on their way around the globe. MS, could you fancy hot spiced apple or is it too warm for a hot drink? It’s made with pure apple juice (the cloudy variety, not the clear brown stuff), cinnamon and some Amaretto. Heat the juice in a pan with the cinnamon stick, chop an apple; pour a little amaretto into a tall heat resistant glass, add the chopped apple, pour the apple juice over it (the juice should be really hot, but not quite boiling) and serve with a straw because the drink makes the glass too hot for sensible drinking.

PM, it’s a little too hot for a hot spiced apple drink today but that does sound wonderful. I’ll have some to heat up tonight when it gets nippy thanks. It’s 20C(68F) with a blasting wind, sunburn and windburn at the same time.
Are you getting much wind & rain at the moment? I’ve been keeping up with the news and pics on BBC of the storm.

It’s actually not too bad here at the moment. Just normal autumnal weather – cool, rainy and windy, but it is supposed to get really bad overnight.
I’ll get Pickle to bring you a nice cold juice then – how about lemon and mint? I can really recommend it.

Lemon & mint, the perfect thirst quencher PM, thanks. Pickle can hang out here overnight if you like, some sun and a shrub to curl up under and I’m sure HRH will show pickle the best mousing area too.
I’m heading back into the garden to prepare the beds for planting out some hardier flowers later this evening. I’ll check back at lunch time.

PM, is “sensible drinking” not an oxymoron LOL? ‘Tho that spiced cider bev sounds delish, might not be sensible to mix my rum and amaretto. Stepping away from the warm fire for a bit, chores, getting ready for tomorrow, etc. However KJ here is VERY happy that Mac has this Time Machine gizmo, ’cause I “overwrote” a tedious “paid work” doc without a second thought and after the panic subsided realized that I could take myself back prior to this incident and retrieve the older version. Else I might have faced the dreaded “all-nighter!”

Or Pickle can hang out here for a while, I’ve lots of cosy sitting spots. Then again, under Dorry’s influence … you might not be all that happy PM. 😉

    #792051

MS I’m sure Pickle would love fresh mousing territory and lazing in the sun. Unfortunately she can only stay if I’m there too. 🙂

KJ the apple drink is non-alcoholic if you have amaretto syrup instead of the liqueur.

It’s almost the witching hour. I’m thinking I’ll go to bed and see if I can get to sleep before the storm hits. If I can I’ll sleep through it, just as I did with the ’87 hurricane. If I can’t sleep through it I’ll get up and watch it and write a commentary for you lot,

    See you later perhaps :-/
