The custom of honoring ancestors by cleaning cemeteries and decorating graves is an ancient and worldwide tradition. Today on Memorial Day, we acknowledge all who have passed away.

No worries PG, it makes life more exciting. Peeps can post where they like, in either or both Cafés. Or get confused, which at times also seems to be one of life’s givens.

It’s a cold night, the fire is ticking over gently as I have my last warm drink of the evening.

Happy Memorial Day everyone! Most all men in my family were/are vets! … My Dad WWII, Grandpa WWI, Son in Law 2 tours Iraq. Mr. AV missed Vietnam by a year, but went through the ROTC program in high school. God bless them all and I thank them for their service!

A break in the rain this morning, sunny now, but more Alberto bands coming in the afternoon. We’re lazing around, sleeping in – Mr. AV got up and went golfing, Son and I are being lazy and will BBQ chicken later!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Good afternoon all! One of my mother’s uncles was killed in WWI in France.
It’s a cloudy day here in Jersey, but no rain. The frogs will be out soon, singing at the top of their lungs!

Ugh, waiting on yet more rain! We are saturated here! Decided not to bbq today, for obvious reasons ….. went with Son to his house and helped him put a finish coat of gloss on this cool old antique table he bought. Then we met Mr. AV for lunch on the water . Ocean white caps were rough in anticipation of the storm winds. Now reading on the porch with Caddy. Happy day all!

Good morning all, BRRRRRRRRRR ! !
Woke to a good frost on the ground and even the balcony was white and sparkly. Temp overnight was 1.1C and 1.5C @ 7.30am. The day is gloriously sunny now and almost 17C on the balcony where I have been sitting having a coffee while watching the blackbirds and sparrows fight over an apple I put out for them. It was a beak off as they snapped at each other. There was no wind but now it has arrived but my balcony faces north and the cold winds come from the southerly direction. Remember I am on the other side of the equator and things are the opposite way as far as sun and direction the chill winds blow from.
AV, sounds like a nice day to relax and remember those that have served.
JJ, I love frogs, haven’t heard the local frogs for ages I just realised.
AV, yeah BBQing and rain don’t mix well but lunch by a rough shore is rather nice when you are dry inside.
Crazy me decided this morning of all chilly mornings to rearrange the meat in the freezer, I needed to bring up stuff that had fallen to the bottom for use and put newer stuff lower down. Even though I had gloves on my fingers were numb. All done for now though and will be putting a country chicken casserole in the slowcooker. Made a huge chilli con carne for dinner last night and decided I will freeze the rest for Mr MS’s food thermos. It is back to that time of year when I make extra and freeze it for him. I have dozens of bags of homemade soup in the freezer for him too.
    Happy Memorial Day all.

It is amazing some of the things I found. several bags of sliced mixed colour capsicums, sadly undated, At least I know what I have and what I should be buying when on special.
Off to prep dinner by cutting up a pile of carrots and celery.

Well after careful thought – right – I did my posting in the other Café.

MS, and anyone else interested in free home decor, you might want to check out my “street find” solid birch table. Or purrhaps it’s maple – whatever, it’s solid!
