The Tolkein society chose the Downfall of Sauron, March 25, for their reading day. With the popularity of the Lord of The Rings film trilogy firmly influencing the popularity of the books, Tolkien Reading Day was set up with hopes of getting even more people discovering there is much more to Tolkien than just The Lord Of the Rings. Of course, kits know all about middle earth even if they’re hard to find there.

Miss Gaea is taunting the neighbors’ new puppy. I keep telling her that the Husky is going to get taller than the fence and then what? 😆

    Have a happy~

I never got into “Lord of the Rings” – but lots of other peeps did! Kits included! 🙂

Srsly up late wasting my time by using INet to “fantasize” about rentals that could be pawsibilities. Even knowing that I can’t srsly look this early and that best plan wold have agent do it for me and negotiate best deal.

PG, wondering if a letter from current landlord stating that your kits were not at all problematic would be of any use. Places here state no pets, but when I call they say that cats are fine. Truly I’d prefurr to have a quiet purry as my n’bour as opposed to some screaming kid or screaming couple.

I found a wonderful but sad story online this morning and then found one that preceded it by 15 months and just have to share as her story seems familiar to us at the moment.

I’ll read the sad cat story a bit later as I’m a bit teary about other things this morning, though it looks like a lovely and cyclable day. I never got into the Hobbit or Lord of the Rings either, though many friends did back when.

I have a friend in Paris whose parents were able to buy her a little flat; they were both teachers and had a “logement de fonction” – a dwelling that came with their jobs, because they were working in a village not far from the capital. (That benefit is pretty much defunct now). So the parents bought her the flat as an investment. However, there was a drunken, violent couple upstairs, always fighting and throwing things, and as they were also owners there was nothing to do about the infernal situation. Eventually she moved out – her parents made a good profit, by the way.

It is true that many landlords may fear a large, destructive dog, or a cat hoarder…

We’ve had some doozies on our street, including a drug dealer with a pitbull. But they are all gone now. A certain kind of sleazy landlord can be complicit with such tenants from hell, because they’ll pay whatever is asked for and demand no upkeep.

A woman in a quiet, almost suburban neighbourhood here was killed by a neighbour’s pitbull a few years ago. Turns out that the dog’s human was also someone with a serious criminal record who had “weaponized” the dog.

Purrhaps Miss Gaea will put the puppy in his place while she is still the bigger one.
Hey KJ, maybe looking at places online isn’t a bad thing, as long as you stay in browse mode! Plus by the time you/agent start looking, you might have made decisions about what you really need and what you can do without.
That story is sad but very sweet, MS.
How sad for the woman, Lagatta, as well as the dog, who was probably euthanized. All because of some a##hole human criminal.
It’s a cloudy and cool day here in Jersey – the woodburner feels great. I’m getting ready to head across the lake to check on neighbor’s kitties and bird. The most socializing I’ve done there has been with the bird!

Yes, the dog was euthanized. I can’t find whether the owner’s case has come to trial yet.

Animals can be vicious – but much depends on their training, ie their owners. Gym cohort has a pit bull who she says is as gentle as pawsible.

And when I was a kid my leg was basically gored by a white Persian. And I was treated for suspected/potential rabies.Someone had let that cat run wild, or it escaped on its own. Didn’t put me off kits, though.

For sure JJ, neat to see what’s out there for renting. None of them of great interest, but on way to gym I counted at least 15 apts. with vacancies. And I am keeping a list and getting info re prices/amenities.

For sure there will be some compromising. But I want to move forward, not backward. Meaning I want 24/7 doorman, fix-it peeps on premises, A/C, cleanliness. Hate older bldgs. Most places accept cats, this has to be a given, natch. For the amount of cooking that I (don’t) do, don’t care much about a dishwasher, and might have to forego washer/dryer for a laundry room, so long as it is not in the garage and is clean. Must be near public transport and ideally within walking distance from gym, groceries.

There is a luxury bldg like 10 mins from where I am now. A former friend lives there and someone asked would it be diff if I ran into her, well I’d be polite and who knows who I’d run into wherever I go. There are some “interesting” peeps in my current abode. I’ve seen her place as has N and we agree that the layout is nice, how she decorated, not so much.

I’Net also has some reviews of bldgs, which are helpful. In any case current landlord has arranged for a land surveyor to measure my place so he can list it. No calls for appt so far and I care little, not my prob. Will see how this all plays out.

Good morning all. I managed to kidnap HRH Shadz last night and keep her inside all night. She spent the evening sleeping on both our laps and then happily curled up to sleep in the bath. 😯 She also left a deposit in her litter tray, the first time since she was a kitten. She ate cat biscuits for breakfast and hurried off to wait for the sun to reach the balcony. I can’t really complain about all that now can I.
KJ, looks like we were both posting at the same time. I got a surprise this morning when I saw we had posted the same pic as your post wasn’t there when I was posting lastnight. Great minds on the other side of thee world post in unison. 😉 😆
I have read all the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings books, about the time they were filming them here in NZ. Thought it was time and knew a few people who were extras in the films and of course as I have mentioned before we lived almost ‘next door’ to Hobbiton before it was Hobbiton.
Lagatta sorry to hear you are a little teary today. we too have had some doozies of dogs and owners on our street over the years, it is mainly the incompetent owners who have no idea about dogs or even bother to train them unless it is as a weapon and status symbol of being people to fear. I had to report a pair of dogs once who literally hunted and stalked the postman as he cycled on his delivery route down the road, thankfully others saw what was happening and we all kept a close eye on things. I also spoke to the postman and encouraged them to contact the authorities now before something bad happened. The dogs were removed from the owners. That is terrible about the lady being attacked and killed and I hope punishment was dealt out to that human.
PG, you never know, maybe Miss Gaea and the puppy will develop a mutual respect and not bother each other. I have seen it happen.
JJ, we have a cloudy day, the mornings are definitely cooler but the day warms up quite quickly. Of course today when I want hot sun to wilt and dry off the weeds I hoed yesterday it doesn’t happen. 🙁 Guess I will have to pick them all up by hand. 😥
KJ, that’s a great idea keeping a list of the vacancies you see on the way to the gym and researching rents etc. It will give you a good idea of what is out there and what to expect in the way of prices etc.

It always amazes me how insensitive hoomans can be ….. some of them stupidity so … and a pox on the evil ones!
I’m happy to report Son got the home under contract, so now we go into inspections .
…. pls keep all paws crossed there are no major problems …..
Yikes on the landlord problems ….. that can be a slippery slope ….. will keep all in my prayers ….
MS I loved the LOTR books and movies, and thought of you and KK when I watched the movies … such beautiful country ….. I hope to see it one day

Just about to finish a great new book, have a great Sunday evening all!

Indeed great minds … MS! Such a cute grey kitty too – well worth a double post!
I recall Buttons telling us that some friends got to be extras when “Vikings” was being filmed in her n’hood. I think that GOT is also filmed in Ireland.
One of my spin instructors is a casting agent in her Mom’s company. She casts the extras and told me that being an extra is way boring. But she has met some famous stars!
I now realize that the rent that I was paying (and arguing about) was well below the going rate. Then again I’d have to factor in xtra conveniences. And let agent see what kind of a deal she can get me. Plus if current landlord for whatever reason wants me out sooner than year-end, well it will cost him. But the shock of 3 wks ago has abated some as I work on my “wait and see” attitude – a big challenge. In any case some places have placed me on a “wait list” for availabilities later on. One place has contacted me like 3 times! Unless I get an awesome new landlord and elect to stay on here (sense that this is not likely.)
I try to tell myself one thing at a time as in first up is Passover as in next week and lots of last-minute things to do. At least I don’t srsly cook or entertain so it’s a bit less complicated.

It is normal under our system that longterm tenants pay less than market rates.

Funny, I love old buildings, as long as they are in good repair. I love hardwood floors. I have something 100 times better than air conditioning; a mature maple tree in front of my home office in a triplex. It prevents horrible heat in the summertime. (Yes, believe it or not, it can get hot here in the summer). I bought my own little washing machine – no dryer, I have a retractable cord indoors and a normal one on my balcony. Washing with cold water costs very little and is environmentally-friendly.

The main thing I’d like is a bicycle shed! Almost all the people in the coop have bicycles, and I am no longer capable of lugging mine up two flights of steep stairs.

I’ve never had a dishwasher in my life. They make sense for larger families and collectivities, but now I cohabit only with Livia, who only likes dry food and water, so there is no point, even though I do a fair bit of (fairly simple) cooking, because I want to eat natural products, avoid sugar, and reduce salt etc.

I don’t mind doing the washing up anyway – gets the fingernails very clean – but I hate putting things away, which is the same with or without a dishwasher.

It can get very hot here! And while I love heat/humidity, living on the top floor makes it intolerable, and I’ve gotten used to A/C so will want it wherever I move. Don’t need a balcony, dpn’thave one now, but most places have them, I’d prob never use it. No green spaces around me. I’m not a nature lover, prefer the “concrete jungle.” Haven’t even been to the mountain that is in the middle of our city and is relatively within walking distance in eons. When I am out walking, which is often I have to be going somewhere.

Would be boring if we were all the same IMHO.
