Last year I read the Harry Potter books. This year I jumped on the vampire bandwagon and read the Twilight books. Anyone want to discuss? What’s everyone else reading these days?

I just finished the Millennium trilogy by Stieg Larsson (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, etc); the plot is ridiculous and the violence is a bit much, but I liked some of the characters, particularly Lisbeth Salander. We rented the Swedish movie of “Dragon Tattoo” and were surprised at how true it was to the book; I’m expecting the American version to be a disaster.

I just started “Water for Elephants” by Sara Gruen, so far I like it a lot.

I have to admit, I haven’t really read a book in a long while..when I start to, well, I just don’t have the time/energy…However, I did read all the Harry Potter Books and I LOVED them…I had dismissed them in the beginning as a childrens book but once I started them, I couldn’t put them down. Written so wonderfully.

I do re-read Legacy by Susan Kay…it’s a book on Queen Elizabeth I.

I read the Twilight series this summer – twice.

I read a lot of other books as well and read my two favorite series by Stephen Bly several times. They are the Horse Dreams Trilogy and the Austin Stoner Files.

Reread the entire Warriors series as well 🙂

I’m reading Don Quixote for my book group when we meet in September. I’m quite convinced that I will not live long enough to finish this book 🙁

I read Born on a blue Day recently on my beach vacation. It’s a memoir by an Autistic Savant. (he can learn a language in a week! And can memorize 20,000 digits of Pi and was featured in the Discovery documentary “Brainman”). Although at one point his young cat dies of kidney failure which is very sad.

Also I finished reading “Things I’ve Been silent about” sort of a pre-sequel to “Reading Lolita in Tehran” and I am reading The Miracle of Mindfulness by Thich Nhat Hanh on and off.

WWM, I had to read that one in college, and it is a bit of a slog, isn’t it? The fun bits are few and far between.

I read it in college too, Kilroy. Only I had to read it in Spanish for my Spanish literature class. It’s all we did the whole semester.

I wonder if they have Cliff Notes for Don Quixote?

I’m currently reading Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. It’s Young Adult but very dark and interesting. The main character is amazing. I tend to read (actually listen to because I have a 45 minute to an hour drive to work and school) a lot of young adult books lately. So many amazing authors out there.

Also, I read a great book by Holly Black called White Cat. It’s our world but skewed just a bit. Urban fantasy. Unfortunately, it’s the first of a trilogy, and it only came out this year.

Stephen King’s “Under the Dome”. It is a very good suspense thriller that moves into a more Science Fiction as opposed to his usual Supernatural basis.

Oh, Wow – thanks, Kilroy! I never even thought to look. I’m going to check at our B&N and see if they have it. I’m just having a really hard time plodding through the book. There are parts that I really like and then get dissertations in the book where I sit there and think, “Huh?”.
