Sparta sits at my feet whenever I’m eating any meal, he meows and meows, and meows like a kid whining for candy, even though he has fresh food and water.

Of course I make sure to NEVER give him table food, but if he’s good through the meal sometimes he gets a little bit of boiled chicken or some wet food.

I need some help to stop this, since he begs if I have a guest, or if I’m eating alone, sometimes he even hops up in a chair and gets on the table.

He also tries to drink your beverage straight out of the cup, even though he has two full bowls of fresh water.

Water squirts don’t work, and I don’t want to hurt him or anything, and foil or tape rolls don’t work either.

And it won’t be long before he can get on the counters.

A little help here? Lol. 😛

    xoxo Sparta and Katherine

First step, if Sparta insists on sitting there mewoing at you for food say No firmly and hold out open empty hands. If he continues to do this remove him from the room you are dining in until the meal is over. Then he can come back in. Repeat as often as required. Do try to get him used to what the word No means and that open empty hands mean that nothing will be forthcoming. You could try the No, followed by a firm but not scary Grrrr for jumping on the counter tops or getting onto the table. Repetition is the secret. Some other members may have another method that has worked for them.

I feel so lucky. Neither of my cats beg nor do they even really try to get on the counter. One jumps up but only to get to a ledge that he likes.

I’ve read that the firm no followed by growls or hisses does the trick sometimes.

When my cats were kitties they did “kind of” beg, or pretty close to beg. I let them sniff they food, they weren’t interested and moved on. After a few times of them not being interested they gave up and never tried to get my food again, unless of course it’s tuna fish.
