    TODAY IN TRIVIA: CHEESEBURGER

~Louis Ballast of Denver, Colorado filed a trademark for the name ‘cheeseburger’ in 1936. He never enforced it though.

~It is claimed that cheeseburgers were first served in 1934 at Kaelin’s restaurant in Louisville, Kentucky.

~Adding cheese to hamburgers became popular in the late-1920s to mid-1930s

~ As expected, many claimed to be the first who invented it. Just like Lionel Sternberger. He is reputed to have invented the cheeseburger in 1926 at the age of 16 when he was working as a fry cook at his father’s Pasadena, California sandwich shop,

~An early example of the cheeseburger appearing on a menu is a 1928 menu for the Los Angeles restaurant O’Dell’s which listed a cheeseburger smothered with chili for 25 cents

~Other restaurants say they invented the cheeseburger. For example, Kaelin’s Restaurant in Louisville, Kentucky, says it invented the cheeseburger in 1934.

~One year later, a trademark for the name “cheeseburger” was awarded to Louis Ballast of the Humpty Dumpty Drive-In in Denver, Colorado

It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day with Butterscotch Pudding Day during Blueberry Popsicle Month, enjoy maties!

TODAY IN TRIVIA: Difference between Toffee and Butterscotch

~Toffee: A candy made by cooking sugar, water (or cream) and usually butter to anywhere from 260° to 310°F on a candy thermometer, depending on whether a chewy or crunchy toffee is preferred.

~And butterscotch is a type of confectionery made by boiling sugar syrup, butter, cream, and vanilla. The major difference is that the sugar is boiled to the soft crack stage for butterscotch and the hard crack stage for toffee.

~One explanation is the meaning “to cut or score” for the word “scotch”, as the confection must be cut into pieces, or “scotched”, before hardening.

~In 1855 F. K. Robinson’s Glossary of Yorkshire Words, explained Butterscot as “a treacle ball with an amalgamation of butter in it”.

~”Doncaster Butterscotch” was known at least as early as 1848 and sold commercially by rival confectioners S. Parkinson & Sons

Just gorgeous, I love the last one called Red Orchard. One of my all-time favorite pictures was of an autumn apple orchard in the early morning frost from a Vermont Life magazine. I hate when summer ends, but fall is so colorful I look forward to seeing it each year.
