Smelly cat is gone :'(

I’m so sorry, Buttons. I was hoping for another outcome. It’s so hard to say good-bye. Even when your mind tells you that you are doing the right thing, your heart just doesn’t understand. Tell your boyfriend that we all say for him to hold you and let you cry and that it’s okay for him to cry too. Tears will help wash away the most painful part and get you ready to enjoy the happy memories you have of Smelly Cat.

Smelly and Crisp stare into the Brook, watching the goldfish wind through the weeds. The sun glitters on the surface of the Brook, green willows bowing in the soft summer wind. Kerrie hovers behind them with Mama Cat, and they both laugh softly with Emma Blue about their new darlings.

“I ‘most got it!” yells Crisp, small paw waving frantically in between two reeds. Smelly, a bit larger that Crisp but a kitten at heart, dashes into the water after the sinuous fish, only to be brought up out of the Brook by his friend the Wolf. It is difficult to maintain any sort of dignity when you are hanging from some great creature’s mouth, especially when he is laughing at you.

Smiling in spite of Smelly’s wriggles, the Wolf walks a few paces away, and plops the little fellow at Kerrie’s feet. Emma Blue begins a quick cleanup as Kerrie holds him down, and Smelly squirms. Four fat little legs wave in the air and he continues to complain.

“I’m clean I’m clean I’m clean canIgobacknow, PLEEZE?” His voice is quite plaintive and fools no one.

Mama Cat looks deeply into the small cat’s eyes, her own eyes full of perfect love. And perfect knowledge of each small member of The Kitten Pack.

She cannot be fooled by any drama.

“Bath. Now.”

A few minutes later, the two small and freshly scrubbed rascals are back at their positions, shoulder to shoulder and watching the fish.

The Wolf pads back to his knoll, grinning.

“Always new, and always different.”
