Has anyone else had to put their cat on a single protein, grain free diet? So far rabbit had the best results but she has stopped eating the Royal Canin perscription Rabbit so I was looking for other brands. Does anyone know of any?

So far salmon and chicken give her diarrhea, 100% dry kibble in rabbit causes throw-ups.

I had tried everything with Panther before I started raw feeding. Nothing ever worked – she can’t handle commercial cat food. I think she couldn’t handle the preservatives used in cat food and I can’t blaim her!

Have you tried any of the 95% meat canned foods (EVO, Nature’s Variety, By Nature, and Before Grain make some)??? That would be your best bet…plus its canned food which is much better than dry.

Here is an article I found: http://www.littlebigcat.com/index.php?action=library&act=show&item=foodallergiesincats

If I wanted to try a little bit of raw to see if my kittehs would go for it, what might be a suggestion for an introduction to raw?

Here’s a very good guide for switching: http://rawfedcats.org/practicalguide.htm

I have cats who would have switched in a day…others took months. Favorites here are lamb heart, turkey drumstick meat, and chicken giblets 🙂

We are currently trying various protiens one at a time, starting with me cooking it for her for a few days and if she doesn’t get sick we look for a cat food. Except for rabbit -the perscription rabbit (Canned & dry) only makes her sick if she eats just the dry. The problem is she has stopped eating the perscription canned rabbit. When she eats just the dry she throws up because she eats too much too fast and I just don’t have time on weekdays to spread her feeding out more.

The vet has said that I may end up cooking for her in the end if we find a grocery store available protein she can handle but no commercial food.

(Thank goodness this did not develop until she was an older only cat! Trying to balance this special diet across multiple cats would be a nightmare!)

A lot of times a cat may be allergic to a meat protien in the cooked form but not in the raw form.
