Hi everyone! I currently have a 4 month old kitten who has been eating Purina Kitten chow from the day I got her. Occasionally, I give her Fancy Feast appetizers (pure meat in a broth), as a treat for dinner. I was looking into incorporating wet food into her diet maybe once a day. Does anyone else do this, or have any suggestions of dry and wet food that they would recommend?

Our loveable domestic kitties seem to have arisen from a desert cat ancestry. As such they rely more on their meals to get their fluids than drinking water.
Wet food is not only lower in the ash content that is hard on their kidneys but helps keep them hydrated. Especially if you get one that looks at you like you lost your mind if you put a bowl of water by their dishes.

When Buttercup was alive, she saw to it that everyone was served wet food twice a day, and that was their diet. I stopped it after she died because it seemed to be making Tigeranne throw up, but everything now seems to make Tigeranne throw up. (I was present during a yak last night and managed to catch the results in a paper towel.) Penny’s going for her yearly exam and shots on Monday. I’m going to talk to the vet about it.

My kits have high protein good quality dry kibble with water available for nomming all day.
They do get better wet food as pm treat.
(Crockey had reaction when first moved in to certain wet for was stray/feral & vet set it was too rich for him/digestion.)

Hi Lauren, There’s quite a bit of advice about feeding only wet food to cats. Here’s a well known website that talks about why:

If you can manage it, there are reasonably priced wet foods according to the chart she has on her website. I’m no expert, and others may have more to add, but the Friskies Pates seem to be OK, as are most of the pro-plans. I get most of my food online now and that helps me save even more.

Yes, first because the more food she is exposed to now, the less fussy she is likely to be in later life and also because wet food is better for them than dry (especially male cats). If you are going to feed them dry food 24/7 then they must also always have access to fresh clean water, 24/7 since dry food can be dehydrating for them. Hit the ‘nutrition’ tag for more threads on good food for your kitten. Mine get one raw meal a day (from a reliable source, that’s important) and one wet meal a day and some dry food to fill up any holes, and that seems to work very well.
