Hey everyone! I’m new to this but just wanted some advice/support and apologies in advance for a super long post!

I’ve recently brought a pedigree British short hair (full price) kitten from a reputable breader who said she was GCCF registered, when we viewed the kitten she appeared well and everything seemed OK.

We collected her when she was 10 weeks and the breader did not vaccinate any kittens and said that we must get the vaccinated the next day, I was naieve and fell head over heels for Lunar so agreed (I now realise how wrong this is).

We went to collect her and she was obviously scared and we didn’t look at her well enough at the time (I am now realising all of my mistakes), when we got her home we realised how unwell she looked, sneezing, eyes not open properly, runny nose and crums in ears. We ended up taking her the next day to the emergency vets who said she had kitten flu, and an eye infection, she was given a course of antibiotics and some eye drops, we went to our vets the next day to check her progress and agreed to continue with the current care, the next week the crud in her ears was worse despite cleaning so we went back…yep she had mites and an ear infection so came back with ear drops to throw in the mix (feel like I’ve got a crash course in how cat illnesses). We continued with this for a few weeks whilst trying to get Lunar used to myself and my partner, it was so stressful for her which I obviously found very upsetting!

The following week we went and everything had improved, no sneezing/runny nose, eyes opening well and ears were clear! She was able to have her first vaccination!! Hurray!! (3 weeks after we got her!) So everything is going well and I notice these dry patches on her head, within a few days I am literally covered in these weird spots and then it dawns on me that it could be ringworm. I got to the GP, yep ringworm and gives me tablets and cream so I take Lunar to vets same day and they have taken cultures and given her oral medication (Itraconazole) and shampoo (malesab), we have isolated Lunar and are in the process of bleaching/cleaning the house, luckily it’s just myself and my partner and no other animals or children.

I’m so sorry for this long post I’m just lost at what’s best to do, we are also changing clothes when we go into Lunars room and wearing gloves when handling her, I just feel so guilty as she’s only a baby and is used to running around the house and is always with me and loves nothing more than going to sleep on my neck.

The whole process of getting Lunar and all the food etc and vet bills has probably been around £1.5k which is ridiculous and I’m only on a nurses salary, I’m also off at the moment until my own ringworm is under control and am now having to miss a holiday next week as no one is prepared (understandably) to look after Lunar. The whole process has just been so stressful!

Does anyone have any tips for getting rid of ringworm in your cat? I’ve read up a lot about lime sulphur dips, has anyone had any experience from them?

I’ve no idea if she had ringworm the whole time she’s been with us (1 month) as she couldn’t have got it from anywhere else and obviously hasn’t been outside as she has been unwell and not fully vaccinated? Would you complain about the breader? Some family members have suggested giving up Lunar but I can’t bear to, I love my little poorly fur baby so much 🙁

Any help/advice/support would be much appreciated!

To answer your last question, I would definitely NOT give up the kitten! It’s not her fault that she has been exposed to all of these different challenges, but I definitely WOULD report the breeder. Any good breeder is not going to sell a kitten who is sick, has ear mites, not socialized, and has ringworm. This person should be put out of business–remember this is MY opinion, some people may disagree.

There is an OTC medicine here called Lotrimin, it’s a topical cream for humans for ringworm. There are others also, I just can’t recall the name of them, but this cream can most likely be put on the kitten too. You are doing all you can for this kitten and with the help of your vet, and lots of patience, she will be totally healed soon. I am sorry you are going through this. I hate to think of the mother cat and the other kittens she has had who haven’t fared as well. Some probably haven’t even survived.

Good luck in the coming days, and give her plenty of love, it’s all she needs now!!

Thanks for your reply and support! I will look into that cream you mentioned 🙂 had a long chat with my partner and we are in an agreement we are going to get through this and keep Lunar, we just love her too much! She really is the sweetest little girl and as you say it’s not her fault she was dealt a poor hand, our vet has said numerous times we have saved her. I’m also looking in the steps I need to take the report breader, I wouldn’t want anyone else to experience this!
