It’s Moon Day, Chess Day & Ugly Truck Day!

Today we are celebrating with Hot Dogs, Lollipops, Ice Cream Sodas & Fortune Cookies as treats of the day!

    TODAY IN TRIVIA: LOLLIPOP

~The world’s largest lollipop was certified on June 25, 2002. It weighed 4,031 lbs (with stick), measured 18.9 inches thick and was more than 15 feet tall with stick (about as tall a a giraffe).

~Can you guess the flavor of the world’s largest lollipop? If you guessed Cherry, you’re right!

~The word lollipop is used in many different songs including “Lollipop Guild” featured in the movie “The Wizard of Oz,” the Chordettes “Lollipop” and “The Good Ship Lollipop” from a 1934 Shirley Temple movie called “Bright Eyes.”

~National Lollipop day is celebrated on July 20th.

~The original lollipop machines made 40 lollipops in one minute.

~Today’s machines produce 5,900 lollipops per minute.

~Lollipops were first made in New Haven, Connecticut in 1908 by George Smith. They were named after a race horse of the time, Lolly Pop.

    206thday of 2012 with 106 to follow.

    Holidays for Today:

    *National Tequila Day

    *Amelia Earhart Day

    *Cousins Day

    *Pioneer Day in Utah

    TODAY IN TRIVIA: TEQUILA

~The liquor takes its name from the Tequila Valley, some says that comes from the Nahuatl dialect words tequilt (work, job, duty, task) and tlan (place)

~Over 11,000,000 million pounds are harvested every year for use in tequila production and each plant grows in a period of seven to nine years!

~Tequila was first distilled in the 1500-1600′s in the state of Jalisco, Mexico. Guadalajara is the capital of Jalisco and the city of Tequila was established in about 1656. This is where the agave plant grows best.

~The specific plant that is used to make tequila is the Weber blue agave. It takes 8-12 years for the agave to reach maturity.

~Tequila was first imported into the United States in 1873 when the first load was transported to El Paso, Texas. In 1973 tequila sales in the US topped one million cases.

~No truth on worms. There is no worm in tequila, that is Mezcal which is a whole different animal.

We are celebrating Acting Like a Caveman Day plus Threading a Needle Day with

Hot Fudge Sundae as namesake food day!

    TODAY IN TRIVIA:

Aside from sticking the end of a thread into the eye of a needle, what can one do to celebrate this silly holiday? Threading the needle is not just something that tailors, seamstresses, quilters, surgeons, upholsterers and other crafters do. It is also a figure of speech which means to “walk a fine line”, not to take sides, as some politicians tend to do. Be surprised at how many activities exist that involve the phrase “threading the needle.”

If you’re into sewing, or if you’ve been putting off mending a few items, then today is the day to break out your sewing kit and enjoy what is becoming somewhat of a lost art.

The creator of Thread the Needle Day is not found until now, you can celebrate today by either sewing or threading the needle on issues.

QUIP OF THE DAY: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. – T. Adams

Thought for the day. . .

Dedicate some of your life to others. Your dedication will not be a sacrifice. It will be an exhilarating experience because it is intense effort applied toward a meaningful end. – Thomas Dooley

    TODAY IS JULY 26, 2012

We are celebrating Aunt & Uncle day plus All or Nothing Day!

The treat of the day is Coffee Milkshake as namesake day!

TODAY IN TRIVIA: All or Nothing Day

~All or Nothing Day is the day to live like it’s your last. Do something you’ve never done before or always wanted to do. Sing in public, learn to drum or take a chance.

~This is the day to give something your all or don’t even bother. It’s the day to take a chance for once and do something you’ve always wanted to do, but haven’t. Even if it goes wrong or you end up failing – at least you tried! It’s the day you live like it’s your last.

~It’s the day to say, “I love you”, apologize or forgive an old friend and smile. Spend more time with your family, wear pink or practice like you’ve never practiced.

We are celebrating with Creme Brule and Scotch!

    TODAY IN TRIVIA: SCOTCH

~Scotch whisky is the term used in context of whisky that is made in Scotland.

~In order to be called Scotch whisky, a whisky must be distilled and matured in Scotland.

~There are mainly two types of Scotch whisky – Single Malt Scotch Whisky and Blended Scotch Whisky.

~In Britain, the term ‘whisky’ is taken to mean Scotch whisky only, unless it has been specified otherwise.

~In English-speaking countries other than England, Scotch whisky is often referred to as simply ‘Scotch’.

~Scotch whisky should not contain any added substance, apart from water and caramel coloring.

~In case the term ‘Scotch’ is missing from the label of a whisky, there are strong chances that it has not been made in Scotland.

~The first documented proof of the existence of a distillery in Scotland dates back to 1494.

    Hee hee Joan!

    Well the Weekends treats are:

    Sat: Milk Chocolate Day

Sun: Lasagna Day on ?Chesse Sacrafice Purchase Day?

(Hmm do you have to sacrafice some good mozerella to make this dish or…?)

Here is a helpful link on how to sacrafice you CHEESE!!

(Taken off of the Nibble link.)

    This one’s a bit quirky.

Cheese Sacrifice Purchase Day is a “food holiday” for which one purchases cheese and “sacrifices” it to a mouse trap, in order to rid one’s home of mice.

It sounds like a 19th-century British holiday to us, but we can’t find any knowledgeable references—just greeting cards to mark the occasion.

And the holiday doesn’t make much sense: If one’s home had unwanted mice guests, wouldn’t every day be a Cheese Sacrifice Purchase Day?

(As a side tip, peanut butter works much better than cheese. Clever mice can snitch the cheese from the trap, but they have to stick around to lick the PB.)

    Milk chocolate Saturday? No problem!

I just picked up moz and ric cheese and shells – perhaps I will make them for Sunday.

Fortunately, Comet hasn’t picked up on any mice living in the house, yay! One of the neighborhood kitties stopped by to show me the one he caught, however, before bringing it home.
