Vera was my brother’s girlfriend’s cat when I first moved to the islands in WA State in ’95. She was a bee-yooteeful tuxie, so yeah, I have fond memories of her! 😀 (Sorry to let the air outta’ that one, miu.) 😉

If I had a large long-haired male Orangie I’d name him Mr. Higgs……

I want my next kitty to be an orangie. What to name him/her? Hmmm–perhaps “Oscar” for a male (the “cat about town” from the James Herriot books), and “Lady Marmalade” for a female–or is that too racy?

We’ve been on a “Peanuts” kick with our last few cats: Lucy, Linus, Sally. Perhaps a brown male could be “Charlie”? A black male named “Franklin”? A yellow male named “Schroeder”? Somewhere down the line we’d need a Marcie and a Peppermint Patty–what would they look like?

If we got a male tuxie–Pierce, of course, ’cause he looks so dadgum good in a tux!

Lady Marmalade is pretty cool, gatakitty. Marcie would be white with black spots and very persnickity and Peppermint Patty would be a dark orangie with a super laid back personality.

Love good names for cats, it always seems that their names come after they move into my heart and not what I initially wanted to call any of them.

I think T.S. Eliot settled the matter long before we even thought of it….

Hmm. I’m afraid I’ve never really had, or wanted, a pre-conceived name for any of my cats. They were all named after I’d met them, and had a chance to observe their behavior for a while.

I forgot about TS Elliot’s poem. It reminds me that my sister had a cat she named Jellicle (from CATS!) and we called her Jelly.

Piper’s original name was Willow–but that changed quickly once we realized that Willow sounded like a gentle name and her personality was more like a ‘Piper’!

The cats I have now all had their names and I just kept them the same. But as a child on a farm, I named all the cats and kittens. I’ve had names such as Roly Poly, Sox, Warrior, Gray Girl, Molly, Polly, and Puff, and the triplets: Inky, Dinky, Doo.

When I moved to Iowa, a stray started hanging around. I’d tell my son, “That strange cat is out there again.” Yep, her name became Strange.

Inka Dinka Doo–hadn’t thought of that in ages! Thanks, LadyKat!

A friend of mine had a huge, witless Airedale named Phineas, and a small Siamese female who was called “Ursula, Abbess of Kent.”

Guess who kept the entire household firmly set under one small sable paw?

I had an yellow/orange huggable cat named Dennis the Menace. He lost his life but saved ours when he perished from carbon monoxide while sleeping on our bed. If he hadn’t been on our bed that day, we would more than likely have been the ones who died. Our gas water heater, which was in our bedroom, malfunctioned. He still holds a dear spot in our memories, even though it’s been nearly 20 years.

I’ve since had 3 other almost identical cats, one of which I still have. The second one was Denny Mo, the 3rd was Jamie Junior (or JJ), and of course my present baby, Mini Mo.

Gosh, I’m just relieved to know I’m not the only person who dreams about cats they don’t have yet, and names for their theoretical cats!

I want to re-use the name “Mac.” That was my dad’s name. It makes me happy to hear it. I had a Mac once, a huge black and white feral I adopted. But he tested positive for FIV and had to be adopted to a one-cat home. It broke my heart.

I also want to name a kitty “Divot.” As in a golf divot. For a tiny cat.

And I thought I’d croak if I didn’t get to name one “Calamity Jane.” But now I have her!

Like anncetera I’ve only ever named cats after I’ve met them…that said, I do hanker after a semi long haired ginger and white called Harry…one day!
