Up at the Bridge,
Mama Cat and the Kitten Pack are taking a walk through the Meadow. Mama Cat waits patiently as a kitten or two stops every now and then to nibble at the gorgeous grass. The other kittens take advantage of the break to tumble all over each other.
Not far away, a beautiful, sleek Siamese cat is walking toward them. Suddenly, four little heads pop up. “Mama! Mama!” the kittens squeal and run as fast as their little legs will carry them toward the Siamese. These are the kittens from Ms. Hissy’s final litter, the ones to whom she was unable to give birth. They have been part of the Kitten Pack with the Wolf watching over them. Mama Cat lets them go, knowing they are now with the mother to whom they belong.
The kittens roll all over Ms. Hissy, and she catches each one in turn for a bath. She had a lot of experience with this before her human, Susie, took her to a doctor to free her from going into heat and producing litter after litter. Now, though, there is no pain or hardship; the kittens are a pure joy.
After all have had a bath, they lie down beside Ms. Hissy, who rolls over onto her side and rests her head on her paws. The kittens snuggle into their mother’s chest and belly. They don’t need to nurse, but being close to their mother is so nice. Soon they all fall asleep for their first nap with her.
Mama Cat and the Kitten Pack pass by. Mama Cat gives Ms. Hissy a loving look. “They were in the arms of the angels,” she says, “being comforted every moment until you arrived.”
