The cat in question is a 1 1/2 year old male named Boyfriend.

My first question is this: after he is fixed, is it possible that he and my other male cat (6 y/o male) will get along better? Boyfriend is actually a real big sweetie that just loves on everybody, including Joxer (6 y/o), but Joxer hisses and growls and swats most of the time. He’ll tolerate boyfriend but he’s still mean to him. After Boyfriend is fixed, is it possible that Joxer’s attitude will change or is that just irrelevant?

Also, my boyfriend and I put off getting Boyfriend fixed because we were worried he wouldn’t be as sweet anymore. We were kind of worried he’d turn into a big crank like my Joxer (I keep calling him a crank, but Joxer is actually a perfect beautiful cat and I love him to death). Boyfriend’s current disposition is very loving. He likes to cuddle and kiss, wakes me up in the morning by cooing in my face. We didn’t want that to go away. Unfortunately, we NEED to get him fixed because he’s spraying. The other week he got out of the house and disappeared for like two days and we already have a pretty bad cat problem here so we don’t want it to happen again.

Any thoughts or experiences would be nice to hear!

    Hi Anna,

Welcome TDKland. We love all furries! There are many reasons to have Boyfriend the Cat neutered. Neutering significantly reduces the risk of testicular cancer, prevents spraying to mark territory and he won’t want to escape and populate the neighborhood. Behaviorally, males tend to mellow out. They not longer have “the drive” so why bother getting off the sofa. 😉 It should make your guys relationship much smoother. Boyfriend the Cat will still be your snuggle boy. So get him fixed now.

    Good luck

I guess it would be a good idea to get the cat fixed. As he has already started spraying, I’ll suggest you to not waste any more time on this.
