Violette has still not pooped! I took her to the vet today and she got a fecal test for parasites and worms, and she had none. The vet said that it was soft and that she didn’t seem to constipated. She got dewormer and since she is now about 5 weeks old he said we could begin wet or dry kitten food to help her go. I tried giving her some warm formula in a bowl and she did not want to lap or smell it even though she was looking for the bottle. I tried some wet kitten food mixed with milk and she did not seem to like it. I tried milk mixed with a small amount of flavor from the wet food and she also didn’t seem very interested. I decided to feed her formula with the bottle and no oil as the vet said her poop seems to be of soft/normal consistency. Should I continue to try with the wet food, and formula in a bowl? Should I try a new flavor food? Thanks!

I guess if the vet isn’t too concerned about her not pooping then I’d take you lead from the vet…for a day or two. It can be because she doesn’t have enough solids since her diarrhea. The problem is that the vet. would need to administer an enema that is not pleasant.

Mix her a gruel. Mix Goats’ milk and wet food in gruel and give it in the bottle. Once she gets used to this formula then slowly transition her to just wet food. Even though she’s not interested in the food in a bowl, before you go to bed, left a bit in a bowl where she get it she wants too.

Moms will feed her kits for up 10 weeks but now you don’t have to be up in the middle of the night.

Thanks! She is having no problem eating the gruel from the bottle, I will leave some out for her as well.

You might try helping her poop by using the triangle method. Purrhaps now you can get results.

Give her kisses and hugs-she is too darn cute.

It’s nice to read that the kitten is progressing well. I wish you a lot of good times and memories.

Finally she went this morning! I think the wet food added to the bottle did help her go! Would it be a good time to introduce a litter box around this time? How should I help her learn that she should go inside the litter box? Thankss

Yea she made a poop! We get excited about poop! About 10 – 15 mins. after eating put her in the box. Take the poop and put it in her litter box. Wee Violette will figure it out.

Only use unscented, non clumping litter. Kittens will eat anything and if the eat the clumping litter it can create serious stomach issues.

Thank you! Violette has started using the litter box, however she is still not interested in eating unless it is in the bottle!

Yea Violette! Isn’t great when they learn how to use the litter box?! 😉

Kittens can be on the bottle for up to 10-12 weeks. Keep putting some Goats’ milk on bowl then don’t give her the full amount in the bottle. She’ll start fussing but if she doesn’t see the bottle, hopefully she go to the bowl. Make sure the bowl is low to the floor so she’s not having to reach over to get the milk.

Yes, so cute! She was making a habit of peeing next to the box leaving a mess to clean up from under the box, but has since gotten better! She isn’t eating without the bottle yet, but I did catch her lap water for the first time a few days ago!

My older kitten, Toulouse, was neutered today, FVRCP booster, microchip, and got tapeworm dewormer and Violette got her FVRCP vaccination as well as tapeworm dewormer (since Toulouse had tapeworm and she got broadspectrum dewormer last month) So they had a very big day today!

I think we need to start a new link for Wee Violette and Mr. Toulouse. The title about diarrhea is not the case now and not very happy.

So I’m starting a new link called Violette and Toulouse. OK? good
