Please DO NOT GIVE YOUR CAT “copious amounts” of GARLIC!!!. Garlic, like onions, is a member of the Allium family, which is POISONOUS to cats. Onions are apparently much worse, but both can cause anemia.

My apologies. Had no idea garlic was bad for cats.

Two natural things that help humans repel bugs are Vit B (I forget which one) and yeast. I don’t know if either of those things are bad for cats, but it’s worth checking up on.

CBM, yeast is very good for cats and they are supposed to love the taste (sometimes they don’t, though). Sprinkling brewers’ yeast (without salt) onto their food is supposed to make kitties’ coats lovely and healthy and shiny and also make them nom it right up. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don’t — but that’s cats. (You can probably tell, I had kitties that loved it and kitties that didn’t.) Brewers’ yeast is full of vitamin B, if I remember rightly, and good for hoomins too. I would still have a flea comb on hand though…

This site says brewers’ yeast (also known as nutritional yeast) also repels fleas on pets — worth a try? http://vitamins.lovetoknow.com/Health_Benefits_of_Brewers_Yeast

Thanks for all the info, however conflicting it may be, I’m thinking about ordering Advantage for all the cats. We have MANY outside cats here. People seem to drop cats off here because our cats are very social and they will approach anyone who stops or slows down when they drive by. This is how I found my feral cats mate yesterday. I named him Snuggles because he will stand on his hind legs and wrap his arms around your neck to snuggle. Well last night when I was letting the dogs out and our pet goat Deena (she’s 3 months and was bottle fed so she’s like my shadow and acts more like a dog than a goat) and Snuggles jumped on top of a truck we have on the property trying to come to me. He’s sweet when he wants to be but mostly stays on the edge of our pasture by the chicken coop. Well he miss stepped and fell into the bed of the truck and got oil all over his front paws so I took him inside to wash his paws and discovered that he indeed has not been neutered. So I assume he is the father of the feral kittens. Well this morning when I went out to feed the dogs one of the farm dogs had a tiny gray kitten in her mouth. I found her in the middle of the yard, probably 100 ft from the house. Biscuit (Great Pyrenees/ Bernese Mountain Dog mix) is the sweetest most maternal dog you ever met. She won’t start eating her food until her sister Angel finishes hers and will let Angel eat her food if she wants to, however she has taste for guinea eggs and is on the hunt for them all the time. She is not the suspect but I just want to know where the kittens are. I think they are under the house still but how did one get so far away?? Also the kitten was covered with flies and maggots were there so I wonder how long it had been dead and if the mother had got rid of her when she died. The dogs never go under the house and we have cats, chickens, guineas, ducks, and goats and the dogs get along great. Snuggles the cat always hangs out around a wood pile by the pasture and we tore that up looking for the kittens this morning to no avail. I just want to find these kittens before they either die or are completely feral. Lord knows we don’t need more cats as much as I love them. Does anyone know about father cat behavior? I had a litter before I moved down here and the father cat groomed the kittens and helped then eliminate and that was it. Snuggles IS NOT FERAL and comes up to the house to cuddle at night but I feel like he is guarding during the day. I need to find these kittens so if anyone has any insight please let me know! Also Missy the kitten is doing wonderful!!! She is eating almost twice as much and doesn’t sleep as much, she is getting sick of her box! She is going to be a long haired cat I think, mother cat is shorthaired but Snuggles is semi-longhaired. Her eyes are perfectly opened and not cloudy now. Having gone through so much with her I love her that much more if that’s possible.

Is Momcat still coming for food? If she appears regularly at feeding time maybe you can see where she goes and comes from?
