Hi my name is Jenn. A stray cat around my neighborhood recently had kittens. She’s extremely friendly and we are going to keep her and her babies. And she is soon going to be spayed. Anyway my question is..she started out with 6 kittens. Sadly 3 have passed away. The first, sadly was still born. One she refused to feed. The other had an URI, and by experience I knew to separate him immediately. I took him to the vet straight away for an emergency visit. Sadly he was only 3 days old, the vet had told me he was just to tiny (he was also the runt). My heart broke and I held him as we did the kindest thing, which was put him to sleep. The kitten she refused to feed we decided to bottle feed. Then he stopped eating. Back to the vet we went. We discovered that the mother stopped feeding him because she knew he was ill. He had a severe heart problem, and he too needed to be put down. 🙁 so now, we are heart broken but need to focus seeing as we have three fluff balls left (: so now I am in panic mode again! The kittens who are left are 9 days old. Two are thriving and look plump. However one of the kittens is eating and is a good weight (weighed on a food scale). But the issue is his mouth is very scabby, and sometimes gets stuck together. What can this be?? He’s eating well but every once in a while I need to dampen a wash cloth with warm water and gently dab at his mouth and clean his mouth out. I’m so concerned for the kitten who are left. I have been up looking after them, I just feel so bad they are so tiny and helpless. Please any input would be greatly appreciated!! Is this normal!? (Also checked for fleas and ear mites, thank goodness none!)

    Hi Jenn,
Your commitment to taking care of the 3 fluffballs is commendable. There are many peeps on this site with expertise/advice/info on raising baby kitties. I am not one of them, but hopefully some will be able to help you out. Have you considered taking them to vet for check-up/feeding recommendations? Best of luck!
