On saturday(6/30/18) i started fostering a baby kitten from a local shelter. a friend happened to be at the shelter the same time as this other lady was trying to surrender her kitten to the shelter. the workers there told her that if they take the kitten they were going to kill it right away! my friend sent me a picture and it looked JUST LIKE MY CAT(Missy, 17 y/o)! i couldnt let them kill it!!!

so long story short i have a baby now. it pooped on sunday. the poop was dark and pretty hard with like a yellowy orange mucus. on monday it had diarrhea— but only a little bit. it hasnt pooped since then. ive tried everything i can. hes getting bloated and its really scaring me. today i called the shelter that im fostering to try and schedule an appointment and they told me to just come in as soon as possible before 6PM. We got there and waited 50 minutes. 30 OF WHICH WERE SPENT IN THE RAIN. A TWO WEEK OLD KITTEN. IN THE RAIN. so finally its our turn and the guy is like “do you have an appointment” i told him the receptionist told me it was urgent and to just come in whenever i can as soon as possible. the guy relayed my message to the vet and THEY TURNED ME AWAY. THEY LITERALLY REFUSED TO TAKE ME INSIDE. I JUST NEEDED THEM TO MAKE IT POOP AND THEY MADE US WAIT IN THE RAIN FOR SO LONG JUST TO TURN US AWAY.

im really worried. i dont have money for a vet. i cant drive to the store. i cant buy anything at all for this kitten. so i cant change his food to try and help him go. i have olive oil, karo syrup, vaseline, and cotton balls. ive been using the mix and trying as much as possible to make sure there are no clumps. ive been diluting it a lot with water because i read more water might help him. i put a lil vaseline on his booty becuas e a few guides said to do that and i was going to try to put a thermometer there but he wiggles and screams so i didnt want to force it.

please give me advice i dont know what to do anymore ive been trying so hard i took him in knowing it was going to be hard but i really dont want him to die i took it in because i wanted him to live

I know you can’t afford a vet. but please go back to the shelter and force your way in. Kits can go up to 4 days without pooping but it becomes a serious problem if he goes longer. He mostly likely needs an enema which can only be administered by the vet.

This is a video on how to stimulate your kit:

Here’s a link on making emergency food for him:

When you get to the shelter, tell them to provide you with some KMR.

    Good Luck

Are you feeding him kitten milk replacer (KMR)? You can switch to a cheaper alternative, goat’s milk. It’s in the cold refrigerated section of the grocery, or in the baking aisle in cans as condensed, or powder. He has to have some nutrition in order to poop. Once he is on the goat’s milk (which I recommend) his pooping troubles will be over.

I am sorry (and quite troubled and angry) at the treatment your received at your shelter. You took this kitten to keep it from dying or being euthanized, and you were treated inhumanely. I most certainly would let them know how I felt.

Try using the ‘triangle method’ of pooping the kitten–the link I’ll post and also I’ll post one on caring for newborns. Keep us posted!

and hes a girl!!! my son!!! is a daughter!! at least thats what the vets think! shes still pretty young but 🙂 im so relieved

thank you guys for replying i shouldve updated the thread sooner but the baby(and my other furbabies) keeps me busy!
