I think it was a year and a few months ago when he told me he had stage 4 colon cancer. He’s been receiving treatment at the Atlanta location of Cancer Treatment Centers of America. I had to take the cat of a friend’s friend to be treated, and the doctor looked terrible–thin, pale, tired. He died 10 days later.
I just found out about it from the friend of a friend, and called the office to make sure it was true. He died on May 8, but his widow doesn’t want his death to be made common knowledge. The only thing I could find online was one of those minimal, brief obits that they provide for free: name, dates, who has charge of arrangements.
At the end of Penny’s life, he gave her such attentive care and, after she died, he sent me a beautiful sympathy card. I’m going to send his staff the most beautiful card I can find.
It’s times like this when I really miss TDK and wish that Facebook had never been invented. We would have lit candles for him, and Emma would have written a story about his going to the Meadow to greet his former patients, now well and happy. We were a supportive community, but now that community has moved on.
Like Penny’s doctor. đ„
