Seve is now three months old, he’s healthy and happy and very active. Until about two weeks ago he slept most of the night on our bed, or in his favourite area at the top of the stairs. Recently he has started to wake us up by playing, jumping, pouncing and scrabbling around loudly during the night, demanding attention or just generally causing trouble! Last night we put him out of the room and closed the door. I really missed him. Any hints for encouraging rest at night and play in the daytime, so I can let him back into the room with us? He has changed in general too – becoming much bolder and curious, going where he shouldn’t, biting a lot more – he’s even torn the wallpaper!

I read once that there is a natural hunt, feast, sleep cycle cats go through. If we recreate this close to our bedtime, they will probably sleep better. We mix the order a little at our house and do the big meal (feast), then playtime (hunt), then I go to sleep and don’t hear the cats….I assume they sleep most of the night. (I’m one of those rare folks who does not sleep with the pets…though I do see the appeal of it and understand why others do it….my husband and I decided our quality of sleep would suffer.) Our cats are allowed to lounge on our bed during the day, but all the bedroom doors are closed at night and they seem fine with that. (It’s all they have ever known.) Anyways, wearing them out with interactive play (like laser pointer or wand toys) and a big meal before our bedtime has been our strategy.
