So during the Hurricane Irma (Sept 10th), we found an abandon kitten in our garage and no other kittens. We left our garage open and forgot, so when we woke up we found a kitten near the door. (We live in the middle of no where land.) We ended up leaving it alone and keeping an eye on it for it’s mama to come back, but after 2 days…Nothing. The kitten was cold and hungry, so we brought it in. (We still haven’t seen mama cat.)

We ended up feeding it KMR (Can liquid) and it’s been doing great, but we noticed it’s poop is kinda liquid and light brownish. My friend is a vet and told me this was normal for newborns. I’ve been told this also about how can milk liquids can cause this. It’s first few poops we’re solid brown, but now it’s not. It doesn’t act sick. It’s pretty loud, wanders, and purrs a lot. It pees quiet normal. It’s gaining weight imo.

Gonna be honest, never done this before and did a lot of research online. I can’t take it to the actual vet till my next pay check, but I plan to asap. I just need some advice on if I’m doing okay or not?

Sounds to me like you are doing awesome–I would switch to powdered KMR, as it has a tendency to firm up the stool. You could also switch to goat’s milk in the powdered form, it will do the same thing. Is this kitten old enough for solid food? You could try it on some wet food–but nothing with chunks or shreads until you know it can chew and swallow without choking.

The kitten’s eyes are open. I’m thinking a week or 2 old maybe. It walks around pretty good. I’m gonna try switching to powder KMR and see if that does the trick. Thanks!

    I’ll update when possible. 🙂

Someone told me to put drop of olive oil in its milk to help stimulate so I did it. Is that an okay thing or should I immediately not do that? LOL

The kitten seems fine though, so I’m not to worried as of right now.

You do this because the kit is constipated and not having diarrhea. As KZ said, use the powdered formula and it usually firms up the poop. Here in TDKland, we recommend Goats’ milk. You can find it in the baking section.

You don’t add olive oil to formula to stimulate it…it softens up the poop and you don’t want to do that with diarrhea. Stimulating the kitten means to use your hand or a washcloth to make it pee or poop, like the mother does with her tongue by licking them to stimulate them to go.

I ended up dumping it out and not feeding it that. Just got KMR powder instead. Sorry.

So… I made her an appointment for the vet, but they can’t see her till next week. In the mean-time, I switched her from liquid KMR to powder KMR and she stopped using the bathroom for 2 days. Is this normal? She still urinates, but she urinates a lot more than usual. For example, just one piece of toilet paper was drenched. Her pee color is light yellowish. I think when I talked to the vet she said sometimes I might be over feeding her if this happens.

She still plays and runs around now. She’s 4 weeks now and recently before switching her to the powder I noticed she was using the bathroom on her own, so I had to get a litter box. But now she has stopped pooping. :/
