    Say hello to Loco, Ladybug, Elli and Shado– in that order. Their mom was recently killed by what my family assumes is a coyote. 🙁 Thankfully I have a lot of experience doing this now. Tomorrow they are going to the vet to make sure they have no internal parasites. I just wanted to share!

    I have found future adopters for Shado and Elli, but still looking for the other two a home! Also I just found out today Shado’s future owner doesn’t plan on spaying her which is very frustrating. He really wants to adopt her and promises to keep her inside but accidents happen! I am taking a college speech course and my last speech for the semester is going to be about why you need to spay and neuter your pets!! (ironic)

    I am going have a stern talking to him about it, and hopefully I can change his mind. Sorry for rambling I am just passionate about this! 😀

    I am passionate about this too, because it reduces the chances of reproductive system and mammary related cancers in cats. Why in the world would he not spay her if he is keeping her inside anyway? Has he ever seen or heard a female cat in heat?!! They will keep coming into heat until they are pregnant or spayed…sorry, I know I’m preaching to the choir, but it’s just downright mean. 😡

    Your kittens are adorable, such a sweet little bunch of furballs!

    Thanks @kittyzee! I had a discussion with him and he reluctantly is going to “let me” get her spayed for him. Which I would rather do instead of having him promise to spay her and just not do it!! He just didn’t think it was necessary for a house cat and used the excuse that she was “too young”.
    I don’t doubt that he will spoil her, but he seems ignorant about a few things!!

    Anyway, I had a stressful day with these little ones. Right before I took them to the vet, Ladybug came down with lethargic behavior and I quickly dosed her with some runny maple syrup cause I suspected it was low blood sugar levels due to parasites causing diarrhea, and I WAS RIGHT. The vet sent me home with two medicines that should cover most parasites they can get.

    When I got home Loco also took a huge nose dive. I treated him the same way but it took longer for him to turn around, and he is still wobbly as I type this! Here is hoping he will recover like his sister. He actually took 5 ccs of goat milk once I woke him up, so that is great. Before he wasn’t responding at all– I expected the worse!
    😥

    Loco ate 10 ccs more! Still just wants to sleep on his heating spot, which is fine. Before he didn’t even CLOSE his eyes which was scary! AGH so stressful. :'(

    OMG, they can really put you on a roller coaster of worry and stress, can’t they?!! There is nothing like trusting your gut and of course experience when you are hand rearing kittens….and a lot of other things in life, but it’s wonderful to hear they are pulling out of it. With kittens so young it’s not hard to believe that a dewormer could cause havoc to their tiny systems.

    So glad to hear that the potential kitty parent is open to letting you do what’s best for her. He doesn’t sound like he’s ever had much experience with cats…make sure if it doesn’t work out that YOU get her back! I am such a geek with my kittens and cats I’d be a mess with fostering and end up a hoarder! 😛

    He told me he owned cats before, but I wonder how long its been? HMM! It was frustrating since I had actually gotten an offer from a vet assistant today to take the little calico girl, if only I’d taken them sooner! I think it would be wrong to turn and say “You cannot have this cat” after he has been egging me for weeks about this kitten. I would have only said that if he was TOTALLY against me getting her spayed aha.

    Also Loco seems to have recovered, but I am keeping a closer eye on them then ever!!

    Also also, thank you for listening! I foster when I have to, and know its best to find them homes so I can foster more later, even if I also wanna keep them all.

    Your wee kits are so precious-I just want to snuggle each one. Thanks for taking the responsibility of raising the purry quartet. Foster meowmies are the best!

    I am concerned that the deworming medicine I was given is causing my babies to act this way. I noticed they usually end up lethargic after pooping, then I administer some runny syrup and it takes an hour but then they get better.

    However during the very early morning (5 AM ) I noticed one of them will vomit (just a little) then become lethargic.

    Now ELLI is going through it. Shado was wobbly so I caught her’s in time. AGH. Should I take them back to the vet? If anything I’d like to make sure they aren’t getting dehydrated, although even when they are lethargic and won’t move much they’ll still take formula!!

    What beautiful babies. 🙂 Look at that little tortie!

    If you’re really concerned definitely visit the vet — have you also tried giving water through a syringe if they don’t drink?

    Edit: NVM, I just see you said that they will take formula; that should keep them hydrated as long as they’re not vomiting frequently.

    @Jenna

    They only vomit right before they become lethargic, and its usually only one of them that gets lethargic at a time! Its so odd!! They had diarrhea which didn’t help, but their poops have become more solidified and normal in the last day. I can’t help but think they fade because of just multiple reasons. Trying to balance everything is crazy!!

    I am going to the store after my classes today, I think I will get Karo Syrup and plain yogurt to add to their goat milk. Plain pedialyte for extra too!

    I changed the formula to what I posted above and they all LOVE IT. Even Elli who had been the most fussy eater can’t get enough of it. None of them have had a lethargic episode all day– so I can’t really be certain if it was the deworming medicine I had been given by the vet, or if they weren’t getting enough from just the goat’s milk.

    Either way I’m sticking with this recipe!!

    Edit: oop. I added 1 part KMR powdered and 2 parts water too hahha. I’d hate to think I was the one causing them pain, but mistakes do happen!!

    I was going to suggest that you mix KMR and goat’s milk together, OR alternate goat’s milk in one feeding, then KMR the next. This method worked really well for me and kept my kitten from getting dreaded constipation from the KMR alone. I was also going to suggest feeding them more often, since it seems to be a pattern of them having low blood sugar and then they perk up after feeding. I don’t remember how old they are (or if you even said) but they might even like some very fine pate’ style food mixed in with their formula to help them between feedings. They look as if they are around 4 weeks, and at 5 weeks, I have usually started with giving them the gruel in the bottle or offering some wet food on my finger.

    @kittyzee

    I actually had been giving them gruel at the start, but then they got diarrhea, so I immediately stopped! They should be around 5 weeks this coming Sunday. I tried them on only KMR and they all hated the taste. Thankfully they all seem to have come around and are now back to running around like little gremlins.

    All of the kittens are doing very well! They are growing up so fast. I can tell it’ll be hard on me when they finally go to their new homes. :’)
