So ever since I brought my kitten Phoenix home, she has had the grossest smelling farts. She doesn’t appear to be in pain, and her bowel movements are normal, with the odd exception when she gets into something, or when I tried giving her wet food once (BIG MISTAKE). Anytime she gets surprised, we pick her up, or she gets excited, which is all the time, she lets one rip. is this normal? or should I be concerned?

I also forgot to mention she is 10 weeks old, and I’ve had her for a week now.

    Oh dear Aisling, kitty farts.
It’s possibly because of food change from what he was being fed before you got him to what you are now feeding him. Any sudden change in diet can cause stomach issues. Give it time. If it still continues and he’s not in any discomfort don’t worry.
Here is some more information but don’t fret about it until Phoenix has had time to settle in at his new home and is more comfortable with his surroundings and new food.

I agree with MS about the kitty farts. Some cats (like people 😆 ) seem to have more gas than others. Wet food is good for cats since they don’t drink a lot of water like dogs do, and can develop crystals in their bladders which cause urinary tract infections or blockages. Another thing to consider is parasites. Most kitties have worms and they need to get to the vet to get a dewormer, and he can get his first vaccinations started too.

When I brought Miss Moppet home, she had that problem. She had been on Blue Buffalo at her foster home and it gave her terrible gas. I weaned her off it, and no more problems.

Investigate the medical issues that KZ brought up. If she gets an all clear then slowly work on her food. MS mentioned food and it has a huge factor in gasiness. Proplan is a good brand and it’s not expensive. They have both wet and dry. If you’re going to feed her dry food then make sure she has, at least, two water bowls in two different areas. She may be more interested if you can get or make a fountain bowl.

    Good luck
