How long does it usually take to get your cat used to its name? I’ve been picking them up and petting them and repeating their name to them, but they’re either more interested in other stuff or the names aren’t sticking yet. Just wondering if that’s normal or not.

And this is sort of off this particular topic, but it’s been bothering me…

How can you tell if a cat likes you? We’ve been trying to decide between two kittens, and the one I really like seldom approaches me when I ask it to. Then again, it looks incredibly timid most of the time (but in an endearing way). The other one is quite comfortable with coming onto the bed and sleeping there, or interacting with me. But the one I like…I don’t know about her.

I’m probably not the one for advice – I’ve had my cat for 5 years, and she is my first cat. Mili, kitty #2, has been with me for just under 2 years. I really don’t know how long it takes a cat to recognize their name. As for coming when you call them… well, that’s only when they chose to ! LOL

I’m guessing your shy cat is just that – shy. I’m sure he/she likes you.
