hi my kitten’s(her name is chill-z :-D) eyes are secreting fluids for the past 2-3 days. I have been doing alot of research about it and it could mean something little or something serious. She is still eating playing sleeping eliminating just fine. She is sittin on my lap right now acting fine but i feel she is a little mad at me because i have been washing off the fluids from her eyes a bit and she doesn’t really like it. I just wanted to ask is it a cold or something serious? she is not sneezing and her breathing sounds fine too. I dont think she is dehydrated because she always drinks a bit after a meal. What should i do? I know the vet is always the best idea but she just got her and i don’t want to frighten her or make her feel uncomfortable unless it is completely necessary. And i hate taking my pets to the doctor gets me really worried :-/. Anyway can someone tell me if they have any idea whats going on with her? is it normal? And should i keep washing her face every once in a while?

Taking her to the vet when she is young can allow for a positive vet experience. I have 2 cats that hate the smell of the vet but love my vet. I have one that smells the vet and reacts very badly–I told the vet he needs a suit of armor. If this isn’t clearing up you should have her checked. It is always best for a new kitten to be checked by a vet to ensure health.

Welcome to TDK, may your kitten’s eyes return to full health quickly.

You can bathe her eyes with cold tea — it’s both soothing and antiseptic (and recommended by my vet 🙂 ). If the secretion gets thick, gunky, crusty, green or pus-like, the vet is the best idea, she may need antibiotics. If she closes or half-closes her eyes, that signals she is in pain and, again, a vet visit is best.

You should also make sure the secretion from her eyes isnt milky white and snot-like, cause thats what chlamydia looks like at first, and its highly contagious and very hard to treat once it has taken hold. Involves many vet visits and specialised medications. I’d say rather take the kitty to the vet and have the problem sorted sooner rather than later.

thanks guys i am going to the vet today in a couple of hours. Hopefully everything will be alright. Like i said before she is playing eating and doing everything right but her eyes are just bothering me. Its not as thick as you guys says it could be, but if i don’t clean her face for a while it gets kinda thick and a tad green. Well, we’ll see whats the real deal soon thanks for the help guys!

just came back from the vet. He said she is fine and his eyes are watery maybe because she might not be getting enough vitamins. He came me a multi-vitamin syrup and an antibiotic eye drop(chloramphenicol)

Then you will have to make a Catster page for her, CM, so we can see her. Click on our avatars and you’ll see our Catster pages 😀 Isn’t it a relief when they’re all better?

CM Deuter has a twin, Blackbeard. When we post next to each other it looks like the cats are moving their head. It will be wonderful to have another tuxie looking at us!

Welcome CM – Chill-Z is so cute & I’m so glad she is feeling better! I don’t give my kitties any “people food”, but a teeny-tiny bit would probably be ok. If it’s homemade, you know what goes into it, so that wouldn’t be a problem, but I worry about the canned stuff – it has so much extra salt and other ingredients I can’t pronounce!

Does it have onion in it? Onions are bad, many canned products have stuff that don’t work well with cats.

Chill-Z is adorable, but I have always loved tuxies!!
