I have recently switched foods from Purina kitten chow to Meow Mix, ever since then he has uncontrolable diarrea and he is going everywhere. I checked for dehydration and he is fine in that department, is it just the food?

Sounds like it. An abrupt change of food can upset their system and it may be that that’s not the best food for him. Keep checking for dehydration though, as it can set in very quickly, and if things don’t get better soon, I’d take him to the vet.

These links on diarrhoea in cats may help:

Is it best to keep him on wet food as opposed to dry for right now? And if so, what kind?

Yes, I would, since dry food helps to dehydrate more but it depends on what he’s used to as well, you don’t want to keep chopping and changing his food now. If you check the diarrhoea links I gave you, you’ll see that they recommend bland food for a bit. I am afraid I am in NZ so do not know very much about wet food in the US but if you check the nutrition tag in pink, you should find some helpful information from Mo or FF50 about good wet food brands.

Here’s a great information on nutrition and feeding for cats.

Feeding Your Cat: Know the Basics of Feline Nutrition

I love that the website is actually written by a vet who cares deeply for the well being of cats and realize the importance of feeding species appropriate food.

PS : While there are many opinions out there about how to feed your cat, mine is on a 100% wet diet only. Dry food is a dirty word in my home. hehe…
