A few days ago, my 3 MO old kitten, whom I have had since he was 5 weeks old (he was a feral stray), suddenly started to freak out at my ceiling fan. He just hides under my bed and basically refuses to come out. He won’t use his litter box and only comes out unless he’s absolutely starving or dying of thirst. So I moved his box and food/water to my bathroom. Nope, he’s afraid there too. He refuses to go anywhere near my bathroom. I’ve tried to console him. Hold him and coddle him, talk to him in a soothing voice and pet him. Nothing works. It’s not like he hasn’t seen the ceiling fan before. It’s not like he isn’t used to the bathroom.
Then he freaked out at my tv. Again, not like he hasn’t been around the tv a hundred times since I brought him here. I had to move his food and water and box into our unused breakfast nook just so he would eat and go to the bathroom. He stays confined to the front of the house now (living room, formal dining room, kitchen, and breakfast nook) because he refuses to come anywhere near my room or bathroom.
It’s so sudden and so out of the blue, I simply have no idea what could have caused it. He’s an indoor kitten, the only cat I have, and I’m home with him pretty much 24/7.
He even looks at the ceiling fan in the living room with fear and tries to hide, but not with the sheer terror that he does with the one in my bedroom.
    I’m simply at a loss.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you in advance,
    Leanna.

Cats are odd. I assume the ceiling fan didn’t come down and attack him in the night. They may find something is OK for a day or month and then something happens and poof! They start attack it or fleeing from it.

Having said that I would call the vet. as it did come on suddenly. There may be an underlying condition and since cats are very good at hiding any injury/illness, his fear could be how he expresses it.

    I hope this helps you.
