I think the only cider I ever had was unfiltered legatta. My grandpa used to buy it every October from a farm stand on Long Island where he used to get corn each August. Family tradition that sadly? Died with him. It was good stuff. Seems you have a sorta farmers market where you live which is ideal but? The thing is it’s a 3 buck ride there and back and would have to be every week since vegetables and fruits have a short shelf life so it’s not financially feasible. They block me at every turn.

Apple Jack and Hard Cider are 2 different apple based alcoholic beverages. Hard Cider is lightly carbonated and served much like beer in – can be bought draft, bottles or cans. Apple Jack is not carbonated and is considered a hard liqueur drank as a shot or used in mixed drinks. Johnny Appleseed was probably attached to the production of apple jack – it takes a while to distill and was used as currency in colonial times in the Mid-Atlantic region, particularly New Jersey where the first commercial Apple Jack company was located.

Yes, Applejack is a strong beverage. Cider (or hard cider in the US) is usually no stronger than beer, though some nowadays can be almost as strong as wine.

I believe both that and what people in the US call cider are based on unfiltered apple juice.

The Jean-Talon market is about 15 minutes’ walk or 5 minutes by bicycle from my place. That is NOT by chance. Even penniless people can usually find decent discards at the end of the day.

Thanks for the clarification TrufflesMom. Right from home. Wine coolers were popular for the college set back in the late 80s. If I had any interest they would’ve been good but I don’t do that and am allergic to anything fermented so even pesach wine is out. Yeast becomes painful. Can’t eat a pretzel without itching. I wish that weren’t true. I hate that. Sir Isaac Newton is the one who thought up something when an apple fell on him. Wasn’t that the theory of relativity? What goes up must come down.

You see Lagatta? I now live where they just pretend to be Americans but nothing resembles what we Americans understand. Everyone caters to their violence and obsession with children at the expense of adult life. They can not walk anywhere. Even to go across the street they need a car. They call themselves a city but their bus system is shoddy and ineffective. No train service and you can’t buy things on Sunday. America abolished blue laws in the 80s but the cult still lives by them and? They believe stores should open at 10 am. But they call this a city. They shun strangers and anything new makes them aggressive. They never adjust to strangers and bad behaviors get worse over time. The environment is perfect for people like me. I had to stay. Couldn’t go home. Nowhere to live, all my property gone. I lost all treasured possessions. They took my Section 8 and now they refuse me for 21 years. First refused answers then things suddenly disappear? In a fax machine? Info from the government?
