Popeye the Sailor is right. Even though kits are carnivores, for hoomins spinach – purrticularly the fresh variety – is said to be one of the healthiest foods around.

I am beginning to think I tempted fate talking about dogs yesterday. My neighbours dogs decided to invade the property and dance across the garden I had just spread sheep poop pellets and blood and bone on. Sigh.
HRH made a retreat inside and I have managed to keep her inside all evening. He he he, two nights in a row that she has spent inside curled up on Mr MS’s lap. Hopefully she will get used to the comforts of home and start coming willingly.

    ALERT:
From article posted above by MS:
“So, the answer to the question “can cats eat spinach?” would be that it’s not recommended to feed your cat spinach. ”

Or they can comment on spinach in pics!

So I truly hope that the cute “weird little jerk” isn’t eating spinach!

I’m not at all surprised, as many people (with arthritic conditions) can’t consume much spinach either, due to the oxalic acid content. But there are lots of other healthy greens! Spinach is just the most easily found, in many countries.

The question just after that one was ‘can cats eat bacon and ham’, and that was a definite no due to the extremely high salt content (salt and sodium nitrate).

I’d add the fake chicken and turkey ‘bacon’ too. While the kosher and halal substitutes aren’t as high in saturated fat as the porky kind, I think they are just as salty, to capture that ‘bacon’ taste… Cats need far less salt than we do, and as we know their kidneys are often a concern.

As soon as it is truly spring, Livia will go downstairs to graze in our garden, they come up and … the greens will come up.

What a coincidence, we’re having spinach for dinner tonight, frozen, not fresh, though. Hubby went out last night to grill only to run out of propane. Ironic, as the house supply ran out on Saturday! So tonight we’ll have steak, potatoes and creamed spinach.

I hope the dogs didn’t cause too much damage to your garden, MS. Yay for Shadz getting comfy indoors for the past 2 nights!

It’s clear and cool here in Jersey. A lot of snow has melted but getting across the dam will be a challenge for a few more days. Pet sitting gig continues this week till Saturday.

MS, I got to thinking that the reason those dogs invaded your garden is because you put the poop, blood and bone on it!! I don’t know about any dogs you have had, but ours always went crazy for baby calf poop (sorry to you sensitive folks out there) because it is milky I guess and the blood and bone (I would guess blood and bone meal) is self explanatory! 😆

I love the pics, and never thought about spinach not being good for cats. I haven’t looked it up though. I love spinach and forget about creamed spinach — thanks JJ, I think I’ll pick some up at the grocery!

    Hi Efurryone,

The pics are LOL! I like the strong kittah and weird little jerk. Kits, of course, are carnivores. So veggies don’t do anything for them and, as Lagatta said, can be harmful.

I’m glad HRH is enjoying Mr. MS lap. I’m sure Miss Gaea is playing hard to get when she acts up. Maybe HRH wants you to “apurrciate” her presence. 😆

I spent a couple of hours picking up trash and pulling weeds. I was a hurting, tired girl last night. The soil is so dry, it’s cracking. We’re supposed to get rain this afternoon, turning to snow through Tuesday. Paws crossed.

I hope the snow doesn’t melt so fast it’s a danger to the dam.

    Have a happy~

Hmmm … well I seem to avoid the hoomin food prob by feeding Dorry only cat food. 😉

Warmer out today but rain expected for Wed.

Tomorrow after gym and hair cut, N coming over for reg cleaning and pre-Passover cleaning as in about 1x/yr pulling out stove/fridge for more thorough floor wash. Place relatively clean anyway. Stove has not been used since I bought it in ’14! Done what I can for now.

Ideally next yr I will be in even nicer place – depending on what presents itself.

Livia doesn’t even like human food. Not even fish.

Livia climbed a tall tree behind our buildings, and got a bit skeert, had forgotten how to climb down. Had a bit of a scare, but is fine.

Phew Lagatta! Else you might have had to climb up after Miss Livia. Or call upon those ever-so-handsome firemen. Do they still do cat rescues? 😮 😉

I dunno. There is a fire station down my street, La Caserne de la Petite-Italie, and indeed handsome firefighters! One of them even grows fresh herbs in the summer in window boxes in front of the station – when I asked, all the others pointed to the cook and had a laugh. I would be utterly incapable of climbing a tree.

Of to our local branch of the Rachelle-Béry health food chain to buy one of those shell-packed organic salad mixes; at $2 this week, a very good deal. Have you been to Fooderie yet?

Good morning all. We have a sunny day but showers are forecast for later. The ants says we will get more rain than showers and they are usually correct. Also has a mouse in the walls or ceiling last night so that is a definite signal that Autumn is here and heading into Winter. Trap setting tonight. HRH spent the night curled up asleep in the bath after sleeping the evening away on Mr MS”s lap. She snuggled up with me in the wee hours then disappeared after an hour. The damp patch in the litter tells me what she was up to. Amazing really as she has shunned the litter tray since she was old enough to head outside as a kitty. If I can keep her inside and she is comfortable using the tray then I don’t mind scooping.
Following on from the fact that spinach isn’t good for cats, I was informed when I was seriously anaemic many years ago that spinach wasn’t suitable for boosting my iron content as it is very difficult for the body to release the iron from spinach. Popeye wasn’t getting all that strength from his spinach unless he ate inordinate amounts of it and he would probably turn green. I had to have butt shots of iron and take iron tablets as well as eat suitable greens and red meats like venison.
Lagatta that is interesting about the oxalic acid content. I don’t eat spinach mainly because it is a pain to grow without taking over the garden and the way a large bundle becomes a few mouthfuls after cooking. I stick to silverbeet/Swiss chard. LOL, Shadz is a real grazer of grass, we sometimes wonder if she has sheep genes.
JJ, I hate it when you are all ready for a bbq, food ready and tastebuds ready and then find the gas bottle is empty. Such a let down. No damage to the garden, just a heap of pawprints in the soil like those shoeprint stickers that used to be used to teach people how to waltz.
KZ, the dogs just run all over everything and their pawprints show they ran around the outer edges in a circular motion then headed off to find something else. I have had trouble with cats when I have spread blood & bone on the garden in the past but the good thing about the dried sheep pellets is that they tend to repel cats as well as feeding the soil, we find them to be one of the best natural fertilisers and we certainly have enough sheep here. It’s all dug through the garden so not lying on the surface. LOL at the dogs and calf poop, yup they will eat anything and we had to really ‘sit’ on the dog at lambing time with all the afterbirths lying around the paddocks. Nothing worse than getting a doggy kiss tinged with poop or placenta. Nature isn’t always pretty.
PG, HRH seems to really be enjoying the fuss and cuddles she is getting when she is inside. I think she had forgotten all about them over Summer when she becomes a tame feral so to speak although her sleeping in the bath has us totally puzzled. Pulling weeds and picking up trash is good, how did your knee take it?
KJ, sounds like the cleaning won’t be too big an issue for you and N.
Oh Livia, I bet your Mama was a bit skeert too. At least you know now how to get down the next time because believe me there will be a next time. Sometimes after a long Winter inside a cat can forget how to cat briefly.

Some years back friends did call the Fire Brigade when their cat went too far up a tree, and cat was duly rescued. Only the Fire Brigade has long enough ladders. They were assured that it was OK, and that occasionally they do find cat skeletons up trees so cats don’t always know how to get down again. Not long before that my Harry escaped the enclosure and ended up in a gum tree with a Rottweiler underneath. (Long story!) I couldn’t call the Fire Brigade because it was summer and they were all off fighting bushires, so I called an animal rescue service. He turned up with full tree-climbing gear, ropes, crampons etc. More long story, but Harry came home safely.

Haven’t been La Fooderie as yet. Might make the trip at some point. Someone who has been says that as I would not be interested in the prepared meals, I do just as well shopping in my n’hood.

So surveyor is coming to measure sq ft of my place tomorrow pm. It should be landlord arranging these things, but it behooves me to maintain politeness.

Must reign myself in as saw what looks like purrfect condo rental on INet. Contacted them and price is good but again have to get back to them when I have firm move date. All the amenities, basically next door to subway station, 20 min (10 for me) walk to gym, cats allowed. Who knows what can happen as in 3 wks ago didn’t know that my place was up for sale. Hate waiting to find out how this will turn out. *Sigh*

If it comes to this … hope it doesn’t come to this – Dorry-wise!

    Ewwww-butt shots and ugly firemen!

You, totally, grossed me out MS with the description of that doggie kiss.

Livia got a bit cocky, huh? I hope she remembers this day.

Now, I’m watching the series “The Missing.” It’s a Swiss series.

    Livia is quite cocky.

Drinking a cup of mocha (stovetop espresso) and have to do a bit of housework before I get down to writing work… Beautiful day, later on I’ll run some errands on my bicycle. My entire route is on bicycle paths.
