And Winter Solstice for our friends in NZ, Oz and other Austral places!

In Canada, the Solstice is National Aboriginal Peoples Day, though it has been set at the 21st (the actual solstice varies a bit).

Good morning all! Beautiful, but hot day here. I did not mention, until now, that my father-in-law passed away. His funeral is today. Went shopping for hubby yesterday as he left it to the last minute–had nothing to wear for the funeral! He was gone shooting in a tournament and so someone had to do it. Silly man. I’ll check in later on–everyone have a beautiful day!

My condolences to you and hubby and family on the passing of your FIL, KZ. And Joan, so sorry to read about your uncle’s passing as well.

The roasting nuts are pretty cute. :))

Already took older son to the orthodontist this morning…easy condo cleaning this afternoon. Hope everyone is having a good Monday!

Hard to fathom that Winter was ever here, as we might break heat/humidity records. So thankful for A/C. 35 degrees C with humidity factored in. Deb’s n’hood is getting the srs heat according to weather reports on our local news, 40 degrees C! I still prefurr what each season brings weather-wise, although, snow/slippy streets, not so much.

Morning all! … so sorry for your loss, KZ! ….
Summer is definitely in full swing here …. typical hot/humid day with showers in the evening and muggy mornings in the 70s ….
This is a buy week, as I wrap things up before we leave mid-week next week for the wedding festivities …. all outfits have been planned/fitted, paired with shores & accessories … Sis is coming over this evening for a final ‘fashion’ show, then it’s just a matter of packing ….
Doesn’t look like the new A/C system will be in before the wedding *sighs* …. Mr. AV fired the second company (incompetence again), so is now interviewing more installers …. it’s hard with the ‘newest’ technology because it’s just come on the market, and it’s hard to find people who have installed or dealt with this type new system – most still use the old school air handler/compressor systems, and are not up on the new efficiency ‘green’ hypo-allergic mini-split systems ……

…. hope everyone is having a good Monday, check you guys later!

Hi everyone – sorry for the loss of your father-in-law, KZ. I understand as hubby figures the suit he wears to weddings and funerals will always fit, sigh.
I must remember to get out earlier to walk on hot days, it quickly got hot this morning – should have been out about 2 hours earlier. Thankfully much of the community is shaded by trees and there is a nice breeze today. I will admit to liking seasons, but am so with you on the icy streets, KJ.
Met a new doggie today, a beautiful Border Collie who protects her family’s chickens.
I’m sorry you are still hunting for a competent a/c installer, AV. How exciting to finalize the wedding plans!

Oh, my condolences on passing of your father-in-law. 🙁

Whew, just got back from mini walk – gosh it’s still hot!
Agree w/you Joan – li’l too warm for mid-day walk!

Well, here’ a share from weekend:

Newbie feral Kiki or Niki…call he/she both!
Does give me eye kisses daily after put out nomz 🙂

OK, time for tall cool one as iced coffee w/sprig o’mint!
Ah, that’s better – to the lounge chair Tux for some serious snuggling…later!

Kiki/Niki is cute, JK! Expecting some rain overnight with temps getting fairly cool. Might water my plants later anyway – often that 40% chance of rain falls somewhere else! Have gotten a few handfuls of sugar snap peas and strawberries, adding a nice touch to salads. Works out well, cool salads are much better than hot dinners on a warm day!

Hi all! The moon was lovely last night… It’s the FULL STRAWBERRY MOON (Native American harvest time) and just found out it can be called THE HONEY MOON as well, since the haze creates a honey color this time of year. Interesting!
I got some strawberries from the farm, two different types, but they aren’t as good or sweet as usual. Am a bit disappointed…. They did get a lot of rain this year!
AV, how exciting about the wedding being so close! But, sorry to hear the continued issues with the new AC system! Too hot right now for that!
KZ, so sorry for your family’s loss of father-in-law….. So very sad…..
Joan, that’s so cool you got to eat some of your own peas and strawberries! YUM! Yes, they are good in salads.
Very hot here, but I’m inside… nice and cool with the new wall AC. It works SO MUCH better than the central air ever did. The central air must have been slowly dying over the years…. It ran and ran and barely cooled it in here. This AC is SO much cheaper to run and works beautifully. Wonderful gift from dear sister. *Feeling very blessed…
Hope everyone has a lovely day! Enjoy!

Oh Joan, just read about your uncle’s passing. Awww… so sorry… 🙁 How neat that you are named after your dad’s younger sister. Very nice that you and your Pa. cousin are so close. That’s a nice way to spend Father’s Day, looking through old photos of dad and the family. 🙂 Sweet….. HUGS

Yep, when Shaddo jumped unnoticed into my truck on that hot day he was in full heat exhaustion when we found him. Thankful he stayed conscious and kept crying till I heard him.

    Good morning all.
JJ, sorry about your uncles passing. Condolences to all.
KZ, condolences to your family and Mr KZ’s family.
I didn’t manage to post yesterday, it was one of those days that things go wrong and when you really don’t need them them to go wrong. I was up and out early to buy a new packet of bird seed for my outdoor feathered friends and popped in to offer some seed to Mum. As I got out of the car I saw some water where I didn’t expect it and them I noticed a grassy ‘bubble’ in the lawn about 3 feet across and 3 inches high which gurgled ad hissed air when gently pushed down. Yikes ! ! I turned off the water supply and noticed the bubble went down. I called my brother who drove into town and investigated by turning the water back on so Mum and I could fill containers and he got to see the ‘grassy bubble’ pop up again. Phone calls to the council and half the morning gone I got back home. Then last evening I get a txt from Mum saying “locked out”. Called her in her cell phone but no answer so grab Mr MS,torches and keys and head to Mum’s again to find her standing in the cold dark night with takeaways/takeout in her hands. It was easier to buy dinner than to cook with no water but she had lost her door key in the process. I have an emergency set of keys. We went back to the carpark and found her door key sitting forlornly on the ground in an empty dark spot and all is now well. Now she is just waiting to hear about the leaky water pipe, one that she and Dad installed 68 years ago. It has corroded through, this could be an expensive repair with lots of digging up of the property. 🙁
Today is the shortest day for the Southern Hemisphere and the first to occur with a full moon since 1967 and won’t happen again until 2062. It is also International Pee on Earth Day, diluted urine is good for the garden and growing plants because human urine contains nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium as well as a few other trace elements that plants need to grow. I’ll leave that topic there. 😮
We have had a unusually warm Winter so far but we are only 3 weeks into Winter. It’s an overcast day with light drizzle which is turning into heavy rain tomorrow.
KJ 35C with humidity – no thanks. Too muggy for comfort.
AV, the wedding date has raced up so quickly. I am sure you are all organised. Well that just sucks about the AC installation companies, I hope you can find someone reliable and knowledgeable.
JK, love the Summer pic. Kiki/Niki is sweet and love the eye kisses.
Hi JJ, your new friend the chicken guarding dog sounds lovely. Good to see your sugarsnap peas grew finally.
BB, it is such a let down when strawberries don;t taste how they should. It could be early season berries though.
When we have hot days here and Shadz is uncomfortable I slowly and gently pour water over her. She has become used to this over the years and finds it cooling, she wanders off to a shady spot and preens herself and also gets extra water into her this way.
Off to do some housework and open and shut the door for HRH.

“sexy abs, bye-bye razors, get your own kitty” are too funny.

My thoughts are with you JJ and KZ.

A couple of friends are having the same problems finding reliable contractors. Supposedly, people need the work but no one qualified is interested.

Do be careful in that heat. Sometmes I want to complete what I”m doing and don’t always pay attention to how I’m feeling JJ.

Do you get the idea your husband would go in his shorts if it weren’t for you KZ?

Niki/Kiki is a beautiful gray girl. She knew you’re the best meowmy, JK. Thanks for the info. I’m fortunate I was aware of the symptoms of heat exhaustion and could act on it. It would be too easy to panic, huh JJ?

I’ve never heard of the Honey Moon but I did love sleeping in the light of Luna last night. I keep my south facing window open.

I”m glad this day has come and gone. I hate the heat and love the cold so this has become my fave day. Sorry, heat seekers!

That must of been scary with your mom. I’m glad you’re close to your mom. We’ve tried to set up a backup plan for mom but she fights us. So we are doing without asking her. My mom is 5 hours away and John (my bro) is an hour away. Isn’t it great to know your place with HRH? 😆 It’s cooler today so I’m enjoying breeze because tomorrow is a repeat of the weekend.

Thanks all for the condolences. It’s been a long day, but one filled with lots of family and friends. I didn’t sleep hardly at all last night, probably due to the full moon, and I am dragging at the moment. I checked Facebook before I went to bed last night and a friend of mine had a cow that got loose in her yard and she took a pic of it looking out of her window. So I woke up in the night in a cold sweat–I had a dream there was a steer lose in my house and it was hunting me down. Good grief. I couldn’t find a place to hide and I could hear it coming. I just couldn’t get back to sleep after that so I went downstairs, where Willow and I heard a strange noise like a low, soft howl. Oh Jeez. I went back upstairs as fast as my bum hip would let me (which isn’t very) and laid in bed with ‘big eyes’ for a few minutes contemplating on whether to wake up Mr. KZ. I didn’t, as I knew he had a big day ahead of him and I knew he wouldn’t appreciate me waking him and telling him that story. 😐
Wow MS, hope the water troubles are fixed and soon. Nothing worse than no water, except maybe no electric. In the country here, if there’s no electric–there’s no water.
JJ, so sorry to hear about the loss of your uncle.
BB, the strawberries sound so good. I hate getting them and having them be hard and sour. They just aren’t good that way. Nothing better than getting fresh picked ones, but the farm markets around here are few and far between.
AV, the excitement is building with the wedding approaching. Bummer about firing the 2nd A/C company, but I get it. Would love to hear more about the new system and how it works.
PG, he may not go in his shorts, but he would NOT be presentable. He looked so nice today in his new ensemble…and he got many compliments on it. I even bought him shoes too and they fit!! He puts things back in his closet until the next funeral or wedding. This time I’m washing and pressing everything and hanging them up myself–knowing they are going back in his closet CLEAN!
JK, how pretty is that gray cat KiKi/Niki! Are the eye kisses the same as a slow blink?
KJ, it must be hot everywhere in North America today–it was sweltering at the cemetery, but there was a good breeze under the trees. I couldn’t wait to be done and get back in the air conditioned car. So glad we have it in the house too.
I’m going looking for jammies…and a cat to snuggle.

I’m headed off to bed too KZ, presumably to sleep. Stress-laden day tomorrow and I so need some rest. Wondering which kit will have privilege of snuggling with you? With me there is only the one, although he brings along his ‘nip-filled lion, Cecil, which he snuggles with.
PG and AV, just today my instructor told me that her A/C is on the fritz – and her contractor is no better. So in this super-heat she resorts to closed blinds and a fan kindly loaned by her bro. And she admits that it is good that point in time she is not a fur parent. I have to call my guy to schedule the yearly check-up.
MS, sounds like your Mum is having a time of it, first with Snuggy being under the weather (glad that turned out not to be as srs as is might have been) and now being locked out and with water pipe troubles. One can only hope that it is a quicker and less expensive fix than anticipated.
