Still haven’t found “Mr. Right”? More importantly do you care? Old Maid’s Day (supposedly) exists to bring awareness to those who have not yet found (and caught) their soul mates. Again, do you care?

Good morning – Walter’s loss is Mavis’ gain!
It rained most of the night here in Jersey but it looks to be clearing out now. Huey serenaded me last night – or purrhaps he wanted to come in the house. Problem with him coming in overnight is that he wants to go back out around hunting time, which this time of year is around 3 am!

I love Mavis’ attitude…she’s a people cat!! And I’m a cat purrson and I think Mr. KZ wonders sometimes if I’m not crazy. 😆

Cooler here with lower humidity, nice breeze too so I’ll be outside most of the day. I might pull a few weeds, but maybe I won’t…and I’ll just enjoy being outside.

Old Maids day makes me think of Jane Austen. In the past, crazy cat ladies were considered old maids, too. If being single, loving my kits and enjoying life makes me an Old Maid then BRING IT ON!

If this day isn’t enough-it’s Hug Your Cat day. I know, just one day?? 😮

Summertime temps are here. It’s going to be above 90f/30c for the week.
    Have a happy~

Concept that should no longer exist, with all the permutations of family types nowadays. There are many couples now, especially among people of a certain age, who each keep their own dwelling while having a committed relationship.

In Québec one traditionally became an “old maid” if one was not married by the age of 25 on the feast of Ste-Catherine (25th of November). Catherine of Alexandria was a martyr who was an intellectual and didn’t want to be given away in a forced marriage. Or at least, that was the legend.

Nowadays, of course, many young women are still studying at that age. In French an old maid is a “vieille fille”, but there is also the “vieux garçon”, who was also seen as somewhat useless or odd.

But we can raise a glass to all the catladies and catgentlemen, whether or not they currently have a human companion!

In Rome, gattari (m) and gattare (f). Anna Magnani the most famous among them. http://www.petsblog.it/post/64501/anna-magnani-gattara-e-il-giro-dei-sette-gatti

Some of us have found “Mr Right”… more than once. Turned out to be Mr Wrong, at least for us, not necessarily for another person.

We can’t predict the future, but at this point (boomer) I don’t think I’d want to live with another man, even if he’s a keeper. I want my own little place.

Afternoon all! …. although I’ve been a married ‘crazy cat lady’ for 33 years, I guarentee that I’d never get married again if something happened to Mr. AV …. don’t have the energy to train another ‘crazy cat man’ …. and believe me, it takes some training!

Well, the news said today that we’ve seen the last of the 80s – from here until fall, it’s 90+ with many days of ‘feels like’ in the triple digits – ugh!

Our new A/C system that we put in this year is super energy efficient, so I can keep the house ice cold (like I like it), and it won’t cost me a fortune! Caddy has learned the joys of ice cubes, and regularly stares through the door until I bring her out one on the porch …. girl is smart!

School let out last week, so it’s a slow week for me with everyone distracted getting their kids in summer camps and starting vacation …. every year, I take this opportunity to enjoy some ‘me’ time, and this one is no exception! heading out to the porch now to read – I see the black face waiting one me, guess I’d better go grab an ice cube ….. Have a great day all!

PG, do like that C18 “old maid” – the “Masterpiece Theatre” sorta costume vibe!

And if I order starter kit right now … will I not get a 2nd starter kit for the same low price of $19.99, just pay separate shipping and handling? 😆

PG, Lagatta, 110% agree – been married, not ideal state for me. So much better off without someone else around, other than Dorry, of course. Especially with what’s generally “on offer” out there! 🙄

AV, put that d**n tutu back in its drawer – pouring in n’hood all day today and supposedly tomorrow!

I’ll be ever so glad when school is out – kids crowd the busses, scream/roughouse and rarely offer their seats to someone in need! *Sigh*

For all you married ladies – rather for your hubbies! 😉

For us “one in ourselves” ladies: 🙂

One of my fave “cat ladies” Patti Smith – AKA the “Godmother of Punk” – and purry friend! She was widowed young and has remained single.

Knitting Circle cohort remarked that I look just like a cat! Ultimate compliment IMHO. 😉

Sporting my orange tabby newly designed earrings today. Especially as just got back from Dorry’s annual VET check-up, which he aced. Slender boy not even 10 lbs! Well can anyone imagine living with me and not automatically getting thin? Hehehe. But got kudos for sticking to his food plan and not giving him treats/hooman food.

Strangely on this Special Day, the vet’s waiting room was full ‘o kits, and a rarity a few of them with male owners/slaves. Hmmm …

As for self, nurse told me to just stop taking the stuff that was added yet made my guts way worse. We’ll see how things go.*Sigh* With other med dose cut by half so in purrfect world I’ll get some sleep again. Oh and vet cautioned me re keeping any meds well away from Dorry. I learned that lesson after the “Tylenol” incident! 😮

And nearly slipped last night, applied the usual but big mistake. Left ice pack directly on skin for way too long. Resulting in burn and resultant panic. INet not my friend! Saw pharm in am who told me it’s OK, put nothing on it, keep it open and can use aloe vera as soothing agent.

*looks sheepish* ….. bad twirl, oooops!

Love the tees KJ! I ordered a patriotic one with a cat of course for the upcoming 4th.

KJ, glad you avoided disaster !

Of course, a second set is free but pay shipping and handling. What is handling and why am I paying for? If I want to pay to be handled…. 😉 Good job, KJ-It’s been a month or two since your last self-inflected disaster. If everything in your place gets automatically thin, can I move in?

I’ve had enough of living with someone in military housing and with BF.

    Good morning all.
Old Maid and spinster are terms that should be abolished, wiped from our dictionaries because they are so negative and sexist.
I was mortified to discover when filling out our marriage certificate years ago that I was described as a ‘spinster. 😯 😥 Good grief I hadn’t had ‘the key to the door’ many years.

Rained all night and pretty much all of today so far. No sun but not too grey a day either and remarkably mild out.
Spent yesterday evening helping daughter and SIL remove everything from the lounge and spare room and pull up the old carpet. They bought new carpet and the layer can do it tomorrow so it was family and friends to the rescue. I believe there will be a hurried skirting board painting bee happening this evening. Gosh it was interesting once the floorboards were revealed and seeing where walls had once been and finding an old hearth.
AV, I would appreciate it if you got your twirling sorted out, I am getting tired of getting wet going out to empty my rain gauge. We have had so much rain since Friday and still it falls.

    Spot on MS!
Had to look up def on Wikipedia:
“Spinster is a term used to refer to an unmarried woman who is older than what is perceived as the prime age range during which women should marry. It could also indicate that a woman was considered unlikely to ever marry. The term originally denoted a woman whose occupation was to spin. A synonymous but more pejorative term is old maid. The closest equivalent term for males is ‘bachelor’, but ‘bachelor’ doesn’t generally carry the same connotations in reference to age and perceived desirability in the marriage market.”

Then there’s that term “bachelorette.” 😕

Now some bachelors who have crossed my path be basically categorized as “whack jobs.” And the only thing that IMHO has any merit in def is ref to “spin” be it in ref to my bike class or at the loom. LOL.

A woman I spoke with long ago about her matchmaking attempts noted that: “I’ve come across a lot of brilliant women. And I’ve come across a lot of men.” I thing this is a pretty good summation.

Well, there was “confirmed bachelor”, but that was a way of alluding to a man being on the gay team, not the straight one. Fortunately that nudge has also pretty much gone by the wayside.

Livia was getting a tiny bit too plump at winter’s end – although I carefully portion her food, she wants no treats or human food and doesn’t eat a lot. She is fine now that she is playing frenetically in the garden, climbing trees etc. Of course she weighs less than 10lb, but she is very small.
