Gloria is still one of my idols. Heard her speak here some years back, so smart and witty. Those early feminists paved the way for lots of us, though still a ways to go IMHO.

Just missed a special on cable – Gloria: In her Own Words. Will have to see if they play it again, I was watching the 2013 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction show, Rush was on when I tuned in. Guitar player (sorry don’t know his name, only remember bass’ Geddy Lee) did his whole speech using only the words ‘blah blah blah’, but with such tone of voice, expressions and body language that he totally got his point across while making me laugh out loud!

    Nougat Day!
It’s Nougat Day – yum with more fun from Odd!

Make Up Holiday, Nougat Day, Spinach Day

    And Spinach Day!
    Ask Popeye...he's the expert!
    Born Today:
    Joseph Campbell
?~ 1904 – Joseph Campbell, author: Is most noted for his monumental study of mythology. Campbell’s book the ‘Hero with a Thousand Faces (1949) traces the common theme of the spiritual quest in myth(1949). Writers found it a treasure trove for their own work, from the poet Robert Bly to the filmmaker George Lucas, who said that without it, he would never have been able to write Star Wars
Enjoy the day & make it your special Holiday too!
    balloons
If you could “call a holiday,” what would it celebrate? Brussels sprouts? Cable television? YOU? How about a “Bring it Out and Use it Now” holiday or a “No Bills” holiday?
    Trivia:
?~ Julia Child concocted her first “recipe” while working as a spy during WWII. It was a shark repellent.

I’ll easily celebrate the day that I discovered the works of Joseph Campbell. Greatly influenced my own thinking process. Saw him speak here when I was like 17 yrs old. I say “saw” as opposed to “heard” because at the time I was not able to grasp his concepts. Wish I’d attended Sarah Lqwrence College and had him as a prof. Still re-reading “The Power of Myth” and more is revealed each time. Tks for quote JK, going to copy/print it.

Well it’s Thurs & time for fun from Odd:

Quirky Country Western Music, Joe Day, Spanish Paella Day

    One of my fave bevies:
    cuppa joe to go

“Joe” Day celebrates you if your name is Joe. The name Joseph reached the height of its popularity in the 1890s (ranked no. 6) and 1910s (ranked no. 5). From 1911 to 2011, Joseph was the eighth most popular baby boy name in the United States, trailing behind James, John, Robert, Michael, William, David, and Richard according to the Social Security Administration.
Enjoy a “cup of Joe,” (a cup of coffee)! This phrase originated from a modification of the words java or jamoke. The use of Joe in phrases was common in the 1930s and appeared in various expressions, including “an ordinary Joe” and the reference to an enlisted man as “GI Joe” according to World Wide Words.
    Yum
    Spanish Paella
Paella is a hot rice dish that was developed in Valencia, Spain during the 1800?s. Traditionally, the meal is made with white rice, green vegetables, meat (usually rabbit, chicken, or duck), land snails, beans, saffron, and olive oil. It is cooked over an open flame fueled by pine cones and pine and orange branches, with a bottom layer of toasted rice, then served in then pan in which it was cooked. In fact, the name “paella” actually derives from an Old French word for “pan”.

Here’s what’s going on this last day of March:

Baseball Opening Day, Bunsen Burner Day, Clams on a Half Shell

    rabbit rabbit
Today is the last day of the March and you know what that means don’t you? It’s time to prepare for the first of the month and all that can be yours by simple saying ”rabbit, rabbit!” The first words out of your mouth on the first day of April must be “rabbit, rabbit.”
    Opening Day
    bunsen burner
    from odd:
In 1852, a man named Robert Bunsen began working at the University of Heidelberg. He was trying to isolate chemical substances and soon became frustrated with the inefficient and smoky heat sources that were available in the laboratory. To solve the problem, he drew up plans for a burner that would mix gas and air prior to ignition. The result was the Bunsen burner, which is now used in laboratories all over the world.
    clams on 1/2 shell
Are you feeling bold today? In a “why not?” sort of mood? Well then, eat clams the way sharks and squid do — raw and in their shell. Not feeling that bold? Well, feel free to have your clams fried, baked, or boiled. You can also add them to chowder or pasta!
Get ready…tomorrow is April Fools Day!
